Topic: Coins Across,what to get?
Message: Posted by: GeorgeSantos (Feb 1, 2005 08:43PM)
I am really interested in Bob Kohler's 3 Fly but it will drill my wallet for ages. I came across Dan's site (nice site Dan) http://www.coinvanish.com and 2 VCA's got my attention.

R. Paul Wilson's Crowded Coins and Troy Hooser's Redirection Coins Across.

Now, from Dan's description, both seemed realy good effects. To all you coin workers out there who have R. Paul Wilson and Troy Hooser's works, which do you prefer and why?

I have R. Paul Wilson, and you are dirty the whole time! I like Lee Asher's (http://www.leeasher.com) much more, though both are very, very similar. It's called "three stylin", IMHO.

I'm flattered that my effect has attracted your attention.

You might be better off waiting a bit to work on that trick though.

The trick was invented while spending a few years working on John Ramsay's routines. It helps to have practiced basic attention management skills that can be learned from the routines you will find in Bobo's, David Roths's wonderful works and the Galloway books on Ramsay's work.

Speaking of Dan, grab his notes. I got mine in yesterday and can already see how POWERFUL this is going to be! I can't wait to get it down.

You can find it in Coin Vanish 2.

I use Paul Wilson's basic idea & Gary Kurtz subtleties with the Gallo ending for the last coin and then counting 'three' into the hand and vanishing them all.

This is a little faster paced recap/ follow-up to Winged Silver or Coins to Cup, and it plays really well. If you fool around with the VCA idea for a while there are lots of opportunities to show yourself 'clean.'

Well, you are pretty dirty the whole time with "Three stylin'" too!

Pick up a copy of Chris Kenner's book "Totally Out of Control" by Richard Kaufman. It has his 3Fly effect "Menage Et Trois" plus a lot of other great effects.

Jonathan,

Once again it looks as though you have been cast aside.

Bad Guy: "Gee Mr. McCandles, I thought you wuz dead?"

Jacob McCandles: "Not hardly!"

Cheers! ;)

I know that 3-Fly is the trick du jour, but I've been moving four half dollars from hand to hand for years and it never fails to get a good reaction.

The illusion is "Peregrinating Halves" from Bobo's Modern Coin Magic.

You may already have the SPOMT* in your drawer or in your repertoire.

You started the craze on this plot Jonathan. :jump: Are you planning to release your own original works on this effect on dvd or vido soon?

George,

Go with the U3F. There are ways of doing it without hitting your wallet too hard. Go to http://www.toddlassen.com you can get the sliding locking ] there. It's cheaper than BK's (you don't get the routine or the video though.). Plus if I'm not mistaken you can't buy BK's coins anymore anyway... at least from him (ebay). Todd's coins are very high quality. Another place I just discovered here at the Café is here http://www.themagicianscoin.com . They've got an ebay store and are making chinese sliding locking ]'s (WOW!!) for very inexpensive rates. I've ordered mine but haven't received them yet. I'll post a review here when I get them.

Yeah it's more expensive but if you want quality you pay for it. Plus it makes routines like "Completely Crowded Coins" and so on... much much cleaner.

The routine Bob Kohler sells as part of the U3Fly product is his and not really a good thing to make copies etc. Be nice.

All above have taken Jonathans effect and added their own ideas for a routine
nevertheless it is Jonathan Townsands creation...
no matter what book or what lecture notes please give JT the credit he deserves
