I have been thinking of purchasing some of Steve Fearson's downloads on his site. How many of you have done this? How practical are these effects? Thanks for the help.
Message: Posted by: daffydoug (Apr 1, 2005 08:08PM)
I'm not an expert on the subject, but my understanding (from all I have read on the Café) is that Mr. Fearson flew the magic coop months ago to get involved in a religious group. I would be quite wary if I were you with my hard earned money.

Get your self some confirmation from some of the more trustworthy members of this Café that Steve is back in business and legitimate. If you can't get that, then the red flags should be waving like they have been hit by the latest Florida hurriicane!

Just trying to be a friend and help you to not lose what is in your wallet for a handful of magic beans.

I have seen some of his effects, but most of them I feel aren't really that great or special.
Message: Posted by: Daegs (Apr 2, 2005 04:16AM)
What the heck????

Yes Steve is "out" of the magic scene(accourding to last goodbye), but that doesn't mean you are going to get ripped off he is still a reputable dealer!!!!

Many of his effects are awesome, area51+goodbye vanish are just some that I have and enjoy.

Check it out, you'll certainly get your moneys worth at least.

Read my post again CAREFULLY. I NEVER told the man for a fact that he would be ripped off. I just advised him to excercise caution, and be on the "safe side". "When in doubt, use your snout."

Steve has some great material, then again some of his stuff looks like he ripped it off of a 3 year old :)
Message: Posted by: daffydoug (Apr 2, 2005 08:53PM)
Truth hurts, eh?
Message: Posted by: The Mac (Apr 3, 2005 02:02PM)
Honestly, his stuff sounds good on paper! not so good to perform.Take insertion as an eg: sounds great - demo looks great on the site - UNEXAMIBLE- let me quote his manuscript: put the case in your pocket an run like heck!

I was alittle disappointed with some of Steve's products. Although I love his Floating Cigarette routine, and his levitations are very fun to perform. I didn't like Thumbthing very much, but I did perform it successfully for a couple of people.. so I guess it was worth the money. His effects are well priced IMO.

I only liked his Floating Cigarette and Area 51 routine. (very similar methods)

IMO only get those 2. others aren't really that spectacular as it sounds on the site

His floating cig is one of his best illusions :)
Message: Posted by: Adam J (Apr 4, 2005 08:46AM)
His floating Cig is amazing! Totally worth the money. Other than that, his illusions are like others said 'Good on paper, bad in reality.' I do like the Goodbye Vanish, though, very creative :)

Message: Posted by: Corey Harris (Apr 4, 2005 10:31AM)
Well, I went ahead and purchased his Card Pack, and the Goodbye Vanish. Not sure what all I will use. I know I will probally use the floating card for sure, and the disappearing card box, but not sure what else. For the price its not to bad. He has some intresting items. I may purchase his floating cig in the future.
Message: Posted by: Tor Egil (Apr 4, 2005 05:24PM)
I would describe most of his stuff as "toys". It's not exactly something you would use in a routine. Or can use for that matter. They are just that, toys.
Message: Posted by: daffydoug (Apr 6, 2005 07:19PM)
One effect that I found worth the money was 'Static Elevation" but the gimmick gets old and breaks, so you have to constantly replace it, and it is quite an involved task.

Final cut was pretty good, except he needed to include a few more of the fake "cuts" because they wear out and get lost, and I have no idea where in the world to find replacements.

I wonder if Steve ever regrets selling the rights to his best release...the laser?

What kind of impact would this have had on the average performer? Would this have turned into the next thumbtip?

Now the crazy stuff he is doing....so odd!

Where can I find the pen from anywhere by steve Fearson.Ive searched a lot of places I hear that its out of production is this true .some help please!!
Message: Posted by: johnra (May 25, 2005 02:00PM)
I really like thumbthing a lot its really creative and killer. I don't really like the magicians levitation I have performed it but not at all with success I was always caught because the card slipped. I hate insertion its horrible. the vanishing case is cool but it could be better with some adaptions. Goodbye vanish is a new spin on an old concept. Fearsons box and floating cig are great. Area 51 is basically a spin off of the floating cig. the source is good but he tells what the sources are in area 51 so don't buy the source get area 51 instead. The basics is good for beginers. easy float is a good idea but your better off getting some invisible thread.
I hope I helped aid your disicions,

I'm just waiting with baited breath to see how we can bring about Armageddon with the mighty power of the double-lift...
Message: Posted by: oombob (May 25, 2005 10:29PM)
He has a unique marketing style....his latest email babbles on about real magic and armageddon and other major league horse-crap....to tell you the truth I am kind of entertained by his shameless self promotion....... the "floating cig" is brilliant....as far as the other material....the reviews here on the Café seem pretty accurate regarding the value you will get.

I also loved the Station Manager. I did it twice and it worked great. However, the only thing I don't fell good about is that the person doesn't necessarily think that you're doing a magic trick... it feels like a psychic incident.

Steve Fearson is offering $1000 to vanish on video.
Message: Posted by: dan bivaldi (Jun 7, 2005 02:18PM)
I also was suckered in to buying goodbye vanish.("theres one born every double lift")
you know the bonus item you get with it something to do with a monkey suit and cage,"yeah".well I was going off in tangents as I was searching for something on google just this minute and I came across this. http://www.magicauction.com/Auction_Costume_Pics/MAGICIAN%20IN%20HAT%20ILLUSION%
yep now does this look like the bonus item or what.
Floating cigarette is OK but have you really seen that many people perform it.I only saw one magician perform it on t.v. and he only just made it to his mouth.
It's a bit hit and miss.
The floating carton that you step into aint bad from a distance, more for T.V. though unless you have a gun to stop people coming up to you while performing it.
Then you can perform beckers russian roulette after.

Would you believe it,i just happen to go further down the page on this auction sight and found the exact illusion invented by steve Fearson. http://www.magicauction.com/Auction_Costume_Pics/GORILLA%20CAGE%20ILLUSION%20CS20180.jpg

I have mixed emotions about Steve Fearson. I've bought some of his illusions with mixed satisfaction.
The floating cigarette was a killer.
His sideways levetation was much better than David Blaines.
Station Manager sucked, but Steve was professional enough to refund my money.
Goodbye Vanish I put on par with rubber band tricks and pulling a quarter out the ear, but for the price it was a good investment to spur the imagination.

I guess when it's all said and done, one thing that really impresses me about Steve Fearson is his professionalism. If you think he thinks differently, well maybe. I think he is definately a salesmans's saleman, but he is definately not out to rip you off.

You might want to look into a booklet he has called CardsPack. Its pretty good and cheap. It has a number of things from his website in it.

I've heard mixed reviews of Goodbye Vanish. Is it any good?
Message: Posted by: Corey Harris (Jul 28, 2005 03:21PM)
The goodbye vanish is what you make of it. It wasnt expensive. I think it is good for what it is. It is a one on one vanish though.

If you must give money to Steve Fearson, get Area 51... This one video includes all that is covered in Floating Cig., The Source, and an extra routine with what I thought was a genius ending (however it is a bit difficult to actually set up/perform.) You should watch the video but I will tell you at the end of the routine the floating object will actually literally continue to float up into the night sky FOR REAL (READ NO ILLUSION) glowing in front of everybody, far enough that you will need to buy another prop (available cheaply) if you want to perform it again. That's a killer ending and great thinking.
Message: Posted by: daffydoug (Jul 28, 2005 09:35PM)
How much is it, and where is it found on the net?
Message: Posted by: kozai (Jul 28, 2005 10:00PM)
If you mean Area 51, it can be found here:

I bought the STATION MANAGER trick from Fearson, and man was it a SCAM! I cant believe what this guy is trying to pull. $20 for a manuscript that has 12 of the 15 pages full of crap about some religion. the mentalism is terrible in it too. Very mediocre, and I DEFINITLY do NOT reccommend.
Message: Posted by: daffydoug (Jul 29, 2005 05:05PM)
I have heard many similar reviews about that effect.
