Topic: Crossbow Problem

But first--it was interesting to see the posts about crossbow tricks performed in sideshows. I had the "brilliant idea" to put a blindfolded crossbow marksmanship bit in my show a few years ago; my only concern was that it wouldn't really fit into the whole sideshow theme. Oh well, just goes to show once again, there are no new ideas.

Anyway, the problem--I use the 80lb Cobra Fiber Crossbow pistol, here. While everything worked great during my practice sessions, when I got into performance, I found that rather than firing the bolt, the string just kind of popped the bolt up off the track, tossing it to the ground a few feet away.

I thought there was a problem with the string, so I replaced it. Same problem. I replaced the entire crossbow. Same problem.

Anyone have experience with this? Solutions? Suggestions? It's a good routine, and it kills me that I can't perform it.

Thanks for any and all help.

That`s a new one on me!!!!!
80lb pull is FAR TOO much poundage for performance,Barnet can make a reduced bow to fit any crossbow also the full size bow is far more effective in performance.

I was about to say that I didn't find 80lb pull too much, but then realized that may be what's causing the problem. Anyway, the times it did work, I didn't find the poundage to be a disadvantage--I'm firing at an object on stage, facing away from the audience, with a safety backing behind the object.

As for the full-sized bow, I pack my whole show up in a trunk, and the smaller bow fits better.
