|Topic: Old Gary Ouellet Mentalism Routine|
At one time prior to his tragic passing, Gary Ouellet offered performance rights and manuscript for a mentalism illusion called "Carnival Games" on his website. He only offered the directions and the props had to be custom made. I was curious if anyone ever purchased it or knows if his estate still offers performance rights.
Here is the description as I had it saved:
The magician walks out holding a small box, gift-tied with ribbon. He explains
that this is a gift for a very special lady, and that he is going to choose
her in a random fashion. He further explains that she is going to play some
carnival games; the magician admits that he has always loved the carny, even
if he didn't often win a teddy bear for his girlfriends.
The curtain opens and we see a carnival set. There is a giant dart board, and
(later) a "Play the Ducks" game. This first game, however, is ring toss.
All the ladies in the audience are asked to hold up their arms. The magician
takes out a ring-toss ring and scales it into the audience. Whoever's arm it
loops over is asked to join him on stage.
The next game is darts. The magician points to a huge dart board and gives the
lady two darts. Next to it is an easel with a drawing pad. Unlike a normal dart board, this one is divided into sections of all the colors of the rainbow (indeed, each section also has a small label defining the color, such as red, yellow, lavender, purple, scarlet, etc.)
She throws the two darts (this could be made even larger using "magnetic darts
if required) and she then confirms the colors, say yellow and purple. The
magician writes down the colors on the pad, and then takes the board off the
stand and brings it close to the front rows so that everyone can confirm the
Next, the rubber duck game is brought downstage. This consists of an upright set piece depicting a circus tent, with teddy bears hanging from the top, and a plexiglass trough around the middle, with moving water, in which dozens of little plastic ducks of various colors are floating by (see illustration).
The magician steps up to the duck game and lifts ducks out, showing their
underside to the lady. On the belly of the ducks are the names of various
prizes she can win: large teddy bear, small teddy bear, cotton candy, caramel
apple, popcorn, chocolates, etc. He then asks her to choose any duck she
She does so and announces that underneath the duck she chose are the words
The magician recaps. He chose her by pure chance (ring toss). She threw darts
and randomly chose yellow and purple. She then chose among various prizes and
came up with jelly beans. He now hands her the box he has been holding all
this time and asks her to untie it. She does so. Inside is a sealed bag of
jelly beans! He asks her to confirm the colors of the jelly beans. She does
so: yellow and purple. She keeps the jelly beans!
