Any opinions on this rather pricy, brass mentalism effect by Viking? I saw it performed in our local shop and it seemed pretty amazing. Beautiful craftmanship. Thanks.

I have the original Transmental(no gems, same effect). It is an excellent effect, but you will need to come up with a good presentation so it doesn't come across as a puzzle.

When I use them, I tell people that they are used for e.s.p. testing by scientists & I use them in conjunction with the Zenner cards as a series of tests on psychic ability.

The gems will pop out. If you can find the un-gem version buy that.

FuriousGeorge - do you have one of these? Did the gems pop out? Viking usually make quality equipment, pricy yes, but good stuff.
There is on without the gems by Viking called Trans-Mental.

Ryan Swigert gave an excellent demonstration on this trick during a lecture at Denny & Lee's. He took this trick to a whole new level with his presentation. The story seemed so genuine that it wasn't until the explanation did I realize that his patter was just that... A STORY!!! ;) His presentation for this trick can be found in his 2:22 lecture notes. NOTE He doesn't not go over the actual workings of Transmental Gemsation (as it is a Viking product)

His website is http://www.ryanswigert.com/

I picked up a "Trans-mental Gemsation" set yesterday and absolutely love it. The craftmanship is beautiful as I've come to expect from Viking products. Very ingenious and clever. Comes highly recommended. A real pleasure to own.

Thanks for the info, I am thinking of getting an item, something that has a nice look to it and arouses some curiosity. And of course is an effect that would generate a gasping in astonishment type of reaction or maybe a silent contemplative and mysterious one. In any case, I am willing to pay a little bit for something nice, like this item or maybe up to around 100 bucks max (Christmas present for yours truly).
Has anyone seen or have any information on an item called "Mental Vision" ? I saw it under the mentalism section of the trickery and am very curious and interested in it.
Any info or tips would be appreciated or suggestions on an item would be welcome too !
Thanks all...

I just purchased trans-mental and really like it, I have a version with colored stripes on both ends of the rod 1 to 5 stripes. The routine I saw performed is a lie detector, you place the brass tube against the spectators wrist and them ask them questions and tell them to answer no everytime, kinda like a poker face spin.

Many thanks for the input of trans mental gems! This has sat on my shelf for several years because
I did not feel comfortable taking much time reading the needed clue without being obvious. I really like the tube against the wrist(lie detector). I place it on top of their hand and hold it steady at the base of the tube. Throw in a couple of unrelated yes/no questions too. This one is now off the shelf again. Thanks.

As an addition to trans mental as a lie detector effect you can find terrific pics of the gems on the internet, put the pic of each gemstone with itsí name on a business size piece of paper then laminate it. Look for telltale signs in their eyes for clues. They are concentrating on one place...you on another.
