Topic: Need some advice....please

Hi all, I'm very new and interested in coin magic. Currently working with cards but always been fascinated with coins. I've been extensively reading the forums on what to buy. I've come up with C/S/B, Hopping Half, and Magnetic C/S. Not sure about S/S but could add that also. All Johnson products. I've also ordered the New Modern Coin Magic by Bobo. My question is, will I have to buy any ungaffed coins for any of these routines? Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

I like S/S simply because it will help you build confidence that you will need later on when performing with sleights. It is a nice trick, though a little over-popularized.

The routines in Bobo generally use halves or dollar coins. There are many that use the smaller coins, too. If you went to your bank and got $3 worth of halves, and added that to the change in your pocket, you will have enough to . If you can get some dollar sized coins (Ike's, older ones from a coin shop, tokens from a casino, dubloons from Mardi Gras), you should be rounded out pretty well.

By the way, does anyone remember when some company (Sterling, maybe) was striking the Chinese coin, Oval coin, and Man money for the trick in Bobo? Whatever became of that?

Aaron, thanks for the information. I just might substitute the magnetic C/S for the S/S since I have read some good reviews on it. Thanks again.

There are chapters of Bobo which use special coins, but wait until you get the book before thinking of buying them.

Yes, will need an ungaffed Half Dollar for the c/s/b and may want some additional ungaffed English Pennies and Halfs for other routines.

I agree that you buy Bobo's MCM first.
There are tons of tricks that use regular U.S. half dollars and some with smaller coins.
English Pennies are the standard second coin in Bobo's but other half dollar size coins are good to have.

If you really get into Bobo's, you might not want all those other gaff effects. You still might, but once you get the hang of the sleights you might purchase them more sparingly. Either which way, have fun.

Personally I don't use gaffs. Except for a Kennedy Half for obvious routines. Four half dollars, and an english copper penny are all I use and need:) Lots of routines possible! Throw in a magic marker and you could do a show- perform Williamsons, 'strike vanish' and you're in business!

best always,
Matt Tomasko

Thanks a lot for the suggestions everyone. I think I've spent hours reading on the forum about the gaffs and their effects. They sure sound like fun. But I realize that I will need to learn some sleights also. I'm sure Bobos MCM and some coins would keep me busy. Thanks again.
