Topic: Floating Table need Johnny Carson tape also Owen -vs-others
Message: Posted by: Ellen Kotzin (Nov 16, 2002 01:04PM)
I am in search of Johnny Carson's show when Harry Anderson did the TABLE DANCE (his floating table routine). This was from 7/28/87. Does anyone have it? Please PM me.
Also, does anyone know or have a preference in floating tables, Owen -vs- Abbott or others?

I like the Wellington table best. I have an Owen Table but don't perform with it.

Steven's Magic has one table (don't recall the maker) that does a great Spirit Table lift and the cloth cover falls off as it spins... not a bad price ($800.00 w/case)

KJMagic.com has a Zombie styled table from Russia (I believe) that's very cool for those that like doing this kind of bit.

I loathe any routine in which the bable is "exposed" as a comedy/magic prop. When done properly the table can scare the crap out of people. The best Spirit Table routine I've seen in years (and I can't believe I'm saying this) was Copperfield's big table... he did it right! He didn't make it a trick, he left the audience with a mystery.

The Spirit Table should never stay up in the air for more than a second or two... when you do this it become a trick in the eyes of the public. Those doing it as "a Trick" ruin a very good piece of spiritualistic/ bizarre magic for those that specialize in said fields of performance.

Bottom line... if you absolutely can't help yourself and MUST do this great piece of business as a trick, get one that uses a recognized M.O. such as the Zombie styled operation.

ONE LAST NOTE... If you get the chance, catch Cesario (Marco the Magi) @ "Le Grand David" when he does the Table... very cool, simple, entertaining, and yet it doesn't come across as cheap.

I went to McBride's Master Class in September and got to see Losander perform his newest floating table (in Jeff's living room). With the new version, Losander can kind of move his hands independently of the table. It was great!

I believe I have one of the better floating tables on the market. It's made by the Swedish magician Stefan Schützer http://www.magispecialisten.com/ It looks almost like Losander's but
we have invented a technique so you can release both hands from the cloth and put them on top of the table and it still levitates.

I recommend this table to every one who wants to give their audience a great experience.

Have you contacted NBC in Burbank to see if they have it archived and if you can buy a copy?
