Topic: Bo Staff illusion, I Think?
Message: Posted by: jamieallan (Jul 1, 2006 02:39PM)
Just saw a photo of an illusion I think is called bow staff.

What do you do with the illusion ? Any videos on the net, and who makes it?

And who is working it ?

Many thanks for your help.

Jamie

Hey Jamie,

The topic has been discussed before. The BO Staff (not BOW staff) illusion is being built by Roy Shank. It's been performed by many magicians, such as James Dimmare, Robert Gallup, Joanie Spina, Topas, Hans Klok, Rafael and more.

I hope this helps.

Regards,

D

I would call Napoleon Dynamite, I heard he has some serious bow staff skills. Actually, the best I have seen is Robert Gallup's performance. He starts with a martial arts display and it fits right into the illusion. He did it about 5 years ago on TV. That is the only video I know of. I think his show was called Extreme Magic. Good luck.

Napoleon Dynamite - who ?
"Bo Staff illusion" is only for sale thru Roy Shank or Bill Smith.

Hector you're right, Bill did a fantastic job.

By the way...dude you're fun to watch. I'd gladly see your show if you come up to Canada - you look like you're having a blast!

Murray performed this illusion a couple years back on America's Got Talent.

It's pretty edited but you can see the prop in action.

Robert Gallup was mentioned earlier. This segment from his "Extreme Magic" TV show, has his presentation of the Bo Staff Illusion (starts at about the 2:30 mark):

In fact, the Bo Staff Illusion is very good. My preference go to Mark Kalin`s Bo Staff: The colors and design make even more deceptive.

About the presentations is a matter of creativity and fit all tastes.

Hector,

Just a short word off topic to let you know that you've got a very pleasant presentation. I like it very much, it's an eye catching and fast illusion presentation. I didn't get bored a second even though I know this illusion. Very well done.

And of course Bill Smith did an excellent job on this one too.

Congratulations !

Oliver.

Hello guys!

First of all... THANK YOU! for all your kind words! I am so glad you liked my presentation! It is a great illusion.

But I got some news! :) I bought mine second hand and there were a rare misunderstanding!... I have just discovered mine is ROY SHANK'S! I am kind of shocked, first because of the big mistake while talking with the seller as we were talking at the same time about another Bill Smith's illusion. But second about how great Roy is building illusions! WOW.

Sorry for the mistake guys.

All the best!

Why is it more deceptive? Could someone put a link to Kalin's version, please?

Hey Sorcerer, a Chalet Magic Bo Staff illusion is for sale on page 2 selling for $2999.00

here's the link : http://www.magicauction.com/Mag_auc/illusion_pg2.htm

Hi,

This is weird, I thought you can get Bo staff just from either Roy Shank or Bill Smith. Am I wrong?
Message: Posted by: RVH Magic (Sep 6, 2012 04:54PM)
Yes, Only Roy Shank and Bill Smith have the rights to build the Bo-Staff illusion!

The Chalet model is not as nice looking, not as deceptive (bigger B...) and the steps are missing so you can't do the full routine!

You are right! I had overlooked it, sorry.

It's a cheap one, but it's design is... yummmmm  . Definitely I prefer Roy Shank' or Bill Smith' model.

Unfortunately when Chalet rips things off like they did with our version of Rand Woodbury's JAM Illusion (which Rand gave us permission to build), they miss the boat on many details.
George had such a big catalog of standard illusions at great prices,I never understood why he would be unethical and copy things like the Jam, Wonder Window, etc.
The funny thing is when he was building the Cube Zags, he would go crazy when he heard someone built one! (I also heard Gunther never got paid for all of the ones made)
I would say one is safe to buy any Chalet standard illusion or certainly the smaller props, but stay away from certain custom pieces and rip off props.
