Hi folks,

May I kindly what's the differences in terms of the books between Beyond Secrets by Jay Sankey and Strong Magic by Darwin Ortiz??

I understood these books are focused more towards theories part.

I would appreciate if someone can tell me which book is better compare to the above two.

Of course, it will be DArwin Ortiz. I had a quick read of beyond seecret this afternoon and it didn't attract me that much. It gave me impression that sankey is pretending to sound intelligent that make him a smart ass twit. while DArwin Ortiz knew what he was doing by giving lots of examples of effects, performers in to let readers het his point. Btw, Ortiz is a memebr of some group that is devoted to people who have high IQ. So, you can pick ur book.

Ken Weber, Maximum Entertainment. And don't even think of neglecting Eugene Burger and Robert Neale.

Haven't read Sankey's book, but I'm currently in the middle of 'Strong Magic' and it's absolutely fantastic. It really makes you think about every aspect involved in magic, and how to make your stuff *way* more effective with spectators.

Magic & Meaning by Burger & Neale......a great follow-up for Ortiz's Strong Magic.

Strong Magic is huge!!! It will seriously move you to a whole new level. Sankey's book was amusing and useful, but not in the same ballpark.

I am currently re-reading "Maximum Entertainment". For my money, it is worth far more than "Magic and Meaning", "Strong Magic" and Fitzkee combined. Don't overlook it.

Strong Magic gets my vote. I've heard great stuff about Ken Weber's book as well.

Some people make it sound like Strong Magic contains all the Answers. It doesn't. No one book could do that.

Rather, each book contributes to a larger conversation.

In addition to those cited above, Tommy Wonder's essays in The Books of Wonder are also useful. So is Giobbi's section on theory in Card College 2.
