I am StrangeMagick. I am http://www.StrangeMagick.com, http://www.SalemWizard.com and hopefully again SalemSeance.com.

I am also: http://www.dragonskull.co.uk/birtwell.htm, although the text is over 4 years old.

I am also a computer programmer as my day job.

I will be performing MANY shows in downtown Salem Massachusetts during the weekends of October starting the 6th.

Please forgive me for adding a lot of web addresses, but I am really busy this time of year and should really be working, but am taking a break.

I AM glad to once again say hello to all.

Magickally,

Greetings,

I am a registered member as of last week, although I have been lurking here for much longer (stands up and meekly says, "Hi, my name is Frater, and I have been a lurker for 6 months"). Because I merely had a hotmail account I was unable to formally become a member. But I have perused the majority of posts and I feel I know many of you to a small extent, so excuse me if I ever sound forward.

I am a visual artist and gallery administrator by profession and serious student of the esoteric and occult, although I have always loved the art of magic. I have always been a bizzarist and storyteller, and have been discovering over the past 18 months that I can intensify the experience for those around me by incorporating magic into my presentations.

I meet many people in my profession who love to paint (and take it very seriously), but do not have the time, inclination or aptitude to pursue it as an occupation. It is the same with me and my magic. I read about it and study it obsessively, but I am not a professional, so please indulge me. I perform gratis for friends, strangers, and the occasional fundraising events.

Cheers,

Frater Tham

I am soo not a lurker....

Although a lurker sounds like the sort of creature I would assosciate myself with.
"I brought the ear of the lurker close to my lips, there to drip those forbidden syllables that would send it off to do it's vile work. One whisper, and it was off, it's terrible sclorbing yet nearly silent noises making me second guess my hasty decision."

Pleased to meet you newly surfaced ones!

Thamiel, welcome to wherever we are! We are happy to have you here. Please feel free to express yourself.

StrangeMagick, I don't think you need to introduce yourself. I think we've all read your posts.

And shy and retiring (NOT!) Gwyd, no, you're not a lurker.

And of course, nobody has heard of PKG! ;)

Wow, Strange, that is a nice gig (or set of them) !
I've only been to Salem once, in July of 2000 I think.. in this life, anyway. ;) I definitely want to go back, especially this time of year. It won't happen this year though.

Thamiel, no need to feel any lesser for being an amateur, or part timer, etc.. I've said many times here that I'm just a Halloween freak who loves and studies bizarre magick, and these losers (*Cough*) ..err. great guys have taken me in like an old lost brother... like Uncle Fester in Addams Family Values, to be exact.. (that was on last night, btw)

oh, and gwyd, you're not a lurker - you don't count, I think da Baba just forgot to put you on the list. :bwink:

You've all seen my posts here I'm sure. My name is Scott, and I work online and manage many websites professionally. I've been into magic since I was 12, but recently my "bent" is bizarre magic. I like to push the envelope. I perform mostly for friends, but am also putting together a small bizarrist parlor act as well as a small stage magic show, both around 20 minutes.

I really appreciate all the tips and ideas I get from you folks--there is so much knowledge here! Thanks folks!!

I think that lurking is justified at times.
lets take myself for example. I consider myself a novice entertainer and I don't think that my views are as credible as some of our more 'salty' members. at least I know that I would rather hear from someone more experienced then myself.

though I did learn something interesting this weekend! high-brow bizarre effects don't seem to go too well at halloween haunted houses.
after a quick ghost story and a psychic effect, the spectators stared at me with expectation until I jumped in his/her face and said BOO. then they seemed satisfied.

after a few hours of this I ended up juggling most of the time.

so now it's back to the drawing board for some effects involving loud noises and plasic spiders before next Saturday.

I'm still here, but Scrye will begin checking my messages beginning October 6 and continuing through my return on November 1. He's not much of a poster, though. (He prefers to consider himself to be more of a one-of-a-kind, but I digress.)

Scaress, email me! I'm four days out but can still send some thoughts your way. Let me know what worked and what didn't. I'll see where I can shake some ideas and reactions loose. And yes, lengthy scripts and stories about Cthulu-esque gods don't go over well in haunted house queues...but they can be adapted!

I am not a true lurker because I do post when I can truly add to a thread. I find little reason to post just to agree with someone. The exception to this regards warnings of danger that someone posts. Then I may reply to reinforce the seriousness of the situation.

I sometimes respond directly to a person, especially where I do not wish to expose a concept to the general viewers. Access to this forum, unlike the Psychic Entertainers Association Forum or the Shadow Network, is not tightly controlled.

Uh-oh, I'd better post more. I don't want to join Gede Nibo's collection.

ya know, the thing that's holding me back from performing more is, I keep changing my act. I spend a lot of time prepairing for a new show, then the show is cancelled for various reasons. so I don't often stick to one thing long enough to get good.

I suppose its a novice thing.

no really, I hear you bro--but its good to be fluid, flexible...when I do gigs in schools, I don't bring my skulls and blood--heck I look like a mentalist then (ugh) :)...but to be sure, the stories are always there, in my own bizarre fashion....

Hi all, I'm Simon based down in Johannesburg, South Africa. I used to post regularly but never seem to find the time now (lame excuse!!)
I am a creator of bizarre magick apparatus and I run an on-line bizarre business. I love all things mysterious and realise that bizarre magick need not necessarily be dark but should stimulate the imagination of the audience.

My preferred performance arena is in a dinner party type setting although I don't perform as much as I should.

Hello, everybody! This is the best place in the Café, the dark and musty corner of Bizarre! I guess it's about time to reveal my day job, which I'm very proud of. Please take a moment and check it out:
http://www.straightupvc.org/index.html
As for performing, my wife and I just finished a weekend of offering our seance 'The Court of Last Resort' in a fantastic setting: the old night court of our hometown City Hall. And now we have just made arrrangements to offer it for Halloween weekend at The Dudley House in Ventura, California, which was built in 1892 by renowned architect Selwyn Shaw and is a National Historic Landmark. I walked into the parlor of the house today to check it out and saw an old-fashioned slate resting on a sidetable with a piece of chalk beside it. Perfect! Many rumors of spirits haunting the place, as with the City Hall.
I am guilty of not always posting, but avidly read what others have to say. I will try to be more vocal in the future!
Message: Posted by: magus (Oct 3, 2006 10:10PM)
Prof. Pabodie-
I'm in Camarillo, I'll try to come by and check out your show, I was just talking to a guy who saw your ads and was saying he was going.
As to lurking, Some of the messages I see (Hey, list the 10 best books and the 10 best tricks, and give me the routine you perform so I don't have to work, think, or spend money)I selfishly don't feel like replying to. Some are by better thinkers than myself, and I don't feel that I have much advice that they need.
But sometimes there's a (IMHO) valid question and I'll PM them. Sometimes someone says something funny and I'll chime in.
Sometimes I see a message where someone starts getting nasty- "Hey why aren't people helping me as much as I want them to, and faster?" and I just laugh and laugh. Welcome to magic. Knowledge is earned in this art. You pay some dues and you reap some rewards, but no one owes you what you want.
Hope this doen't sound nasty, it's not meant that way. It's just how it is.

I go for days and weeks without saying a thing here, especially when I'm gigging--I don't even want to talk magic then--or when I'm writing long drawn out books :) did you get yours yet by the way bro Magus?

again, even if this thread is buried, I feel ive done something, something simple--reached out, for but a moment...

Okay everybody, I'm coming to the surface. Mainly because of this thread.

I've lurked here for a year, mainly reading the card forum and the bizarre forum.

I'm not yet a magician, and don't know if I ever will be. (By this I mean that I'm not yet sure I'll ever have the guts to perform in public. We'll see.)

Why I'm attracted to the bizarre forum I'm not really sure. But it's the only part of the magic Café which I've read nearly in it's entirety. (By this I mean I have actually taken the time to go through ALL 70+ pages and read the threads which interested me.)

If I WERE a magician I guess I would be one of you. And perhaps posting here will some day give me the confidence to give an actual performance, if only for friends.

So...here I am.

Jeff, start off with something easy such as a self-working card trick. Get your confidence up and try something else. Do it step by step. Do it for friends. Oh, yeah, WELCOME!

Hey I'm here ... Busy month Oct. is as all you working Bizzarest should know. But I don't know what your dif of lurker is . Some one that sends more time doing magic or more time posting .. To me a lurker is a mage that you don't see on this forum until its halloween . Then they are on here asking for a good trick (hate that word ) for there kids party.
But if a lurker is a Mage that works his craft for the rent , and not sitting in front of a computer all day then I'm a lurker

PS.. Hey Baba I'm glag to see the book is doing great . Hoping to have time in Nov. to pick it up before the X-mas parties start . Myst tells me it is worth picking up.

Sorry for the rant but I do not like to posting just to post . And when there is something to say and when I get the time to come back on it has been said.

I have been a busy little Scallywag in other areas. My primary two venues are doing street and Kids gigs. But I am in the process of putting together an "After Dark" show.... One more suitable to teens and street when there are not little kids who are drawn to my pirate character...

This forum is an excellent resource with many knowledgeable posters.

I have a shopping list of Books and effects that I want. Now I just have to convince she who must be obeyed that I need it all...

Thokoza Baba,
Count me in; I've been around . . . just not around here:)

It's great to breathe new life into old bizarre magicks.
I'm sending you a message re: your book. I've only heard great things, well done.

TT2,

Yes, Baba's book is great. I am currently reading it so that I may post a review. Consider this a pre-review. Buy it.
