I am working on a new illusion based on walking thru a mirror , however I want to walk thru a steel plate and at one point drop the curtain and show 1/2 of my body coming thru the plate of steel

Are you thinking of a Mirrortrate type of effect?
You know where you have a black outline square in the center of the mirror/glass/steel ?
You could show your entire half protruding the other side of the solid plate at any time needed!
Email me if this is the case!

Later Dutch!

No, it's a solid steel plate. not a mirror.
E-mail me direct and I'll spill the beans.

OK, I'd like to see this one myself. If you don't mind spilling the beans to me as well, drop me an e-mail and I'll do anything I can to help.

Morgan Strebler does a act where he penatrates a sheet of steel. At one point he is shown to be 1/2 way through. He does it on his video on his web site.

The vortex illusion which Morgan performs is a 3-step walk through originally designed by Jim Pace' (not to be confused with Jim Pace the "The Web" creator). I believe it was originally built by Paul Haynes and there are only about 4 in exhistance since they are no longer being made.
