Topic: Seasonal note for silk workers
Message: Posted by: Bob Sanders (Feb 14, 2007 08:49AM)
Silk workers might enjoy knowing a little seasonal production note about silk.

In China, where we get our silk today, February is a big holiday month. Chinese New Year is the reason. The employees that make DoveLite Silk get much of the month off and the place is closed to allow the employees to be with their families during the New Year events.

No silk is imported from China during the month of February. Retailers usually see no difference. Professionals have to wait until after the Chinese New Year for special orders to get back into production. Otherwise, it tends to go unnoticed in American magic.

Knowledgeable importers, jobbers and wholesalers plan ahead to have sufficient inventories on hand to carry until spring. But it may also explain why your favorite magic sources may be out of certain silk sizes and colors. It is not due to the "Christmas" shopping season. Silk sales for magic actually fall during the Christmas. Apparently Santa doesn't bring magicians silk for Christmas but gets blamed when retailers still have insufficient stock after Christmas. Things get caught up by summer.

It is a cultural event that catches many Americans unaware. The home of silk magic has some magic of its own.

Shipments of silk to the USA will resume in a couple of weeks.

Happy New Year!

Bob,

I count myself very lucky. Santa gave me a six foot butterfly silk for Christmas. Boy I was suprised.

David,

Do you think that Santa comes to Alabama? Yours certainly sounds like a good Santa to know.

Bob

PS --- Do you have to be good first? Oh well!

Bob,

I know for a fact that Santa delivers to Alabama.

Now Bob, only Lucy and Santa will know if you have been good or not.

David

PS--- Being good also means remembering Valentine's Day. Hope your not sleeping on the couch tonight!!! Boy, I almost did!!! LOL.

Bob,

If being good is a requirement you don't stand a chance!

Out of all the people in the world, it seems like I could keep one in the dark!

I'm surrounded by tattle-tales! And what I really need is a lot of misdirection!

I think it is pretty much the same everywhere. Someone who has never worked asking those of us who have always worked to continue to support them in a lifestyle they have become accustomed to.

Interesting!

You do know that the Year of The Pig has begun?

(I wonder if a lobbyist came up with that?)

Bob,

You have nailed it. I believe that is where the term "pork barrel" politics comes from.
