Topic: Warning... Pure Effect on ebay |
Hi all, In the mass frenzy of buying and selling pure effect that seems to be going on at the moment I noticed that some ebay sellers are advertising their copies as 1st Editons, but on later inspection of the contents and the fact that they are also advertised as HARD BACK they can't be 1st ed. Just thought I'd give you guys a heads up in case you're looking for a copy. Take it easy, Ros |

Inform eBay. I'm going to have a look right now... |

They could be the hardback first editions. |

I don't believe the first hardbacks of Pure Effect were called First Editions. I could be wrong. - entity |

I'm pretty sure only the 1st editions were spiral bound - I could be wrong tho |
The binding on some of them weren't even that advanced. John |

Yes, but did he bind them in ribbon and charge $200 a pop with a free copy of Devil's Picturebook to follow at an unspecified later date? |
I can't see any Pure Effect on ebay at all. |

I'm sure I've seen a copy on ebay before where the hardback book said first edition, due to the fact that it was the fist edition of the hardback printing (although it is not THE first edition that is so rare). It was a while ago, so I might be wrong, but I think this is the case here. |

Although potentially someone could buy it thinking it contains Reminiscence and Lift, due to it being a first edition, so, while I think it's a false alarm, this thread is still useful. The listing was ages ago (close to a year). |

Mindguy: Don't be so quick to jump on folks... Mike seems to be speaking of two separate ebay listings -- recent listings that were the subject of this thread, and an older one he saw where hard-cover version of Pure Effect were, he thinks, listed as first Editions. I believe he's mistaken. - entity |

Mike, you bear an uncanny resemblence to Thom Yorke... ;) |

1st edition of Pure Effect was self published by Derren and had two extra chapters and was spiral bound, only 100 editions exist as well as a rough draft version owned by Ian Rowland for proof reading I believe, the second edition was again self published and spiral bound with two chapters missing (not sure how many of these exist), the publishing rights were then given to H & R magicbooks who produced the Pure Effect third edition in the same content as the second edition but as a hardback version. The First Edition Absolute Magics were produced by Derren with a Brown cover (not sure how many of these exist), then the publishing rights were given to H & R and the second editions of Absolute Magic had a green cover. Both books have now been deleted, there will be no future editions of either books so if you find one in stock it might be a wise investment. I'm lucky, I have a first and third edition of Pure Effect and also a First and Second edition of Absolute Magic. I've still yet to meet anyone else with a First Edition of Pure Effect? anyone on here? Some third editions of Pure Effect still cellophane wrapped have sold for upto £500 on eBay and a signed first edition of Absolute Magic went for just under £300. I can understand the price for the first edition of Absolute Magic, but don't go paying more than $100 (£50) for a 3rd edition Pure Effect, there are plenty of shops out there with them in stock if you look properly. The highest price I have seen a 1st Edition of Pure Effect sell for is £950 about $1900 around about a year ago, and this was before the news that the later edition books were going to be discontinued, so it looks like both my 1st editions were a wise investment indeed and will only grow in value amongs the collectors as Derren's fame grows.
