Topic: Good Rope! I need it ...
Message: Posted by: John C (Mar 22, 2007 02:09PM)
I need good heavy thick rope. I bought some of that Camirand 10mm diameter stage rope. It's wimpy. It's weak, it's flimsy. I don't think it has a "core."

Where can I get some nice rope LIKE the white, soft, supple rope that Camirand is but a little thicker and heavier?

Thanks

I use Daryl's rope, but Magicgrandpa suggests the fat rope from Hank Lee.

Hank Lee's Big Fat White Rope should fill the bill for you:

Al, are you talking about the "fabric" type "yarn" rope? Is that Daryl's rope?

No John that knitted stuff is what he sends out with "the acrobatic knot" he also sells a very fine 1/2" pure white round rope. It appears that the Hank Lee fat rope is cheaper, but I've never seen it. Daryl's rope is much like tha camairand rope, but it is round.

I also found some rope that is called Super Deluxe Magician's Rope. On the website it states that the Deluxe is twice as thick as the regular magician's rope, and the Super Deluxe is 3 times as thick as the Deluxe.

This is where I found it:

Has anyone tried the Super, or the Super Deluxe rope from this place?

Got my FAT rope from Hank Lee today. YES!!! Nice!! It's everything I could ever want in rope. Fat, heavy, supple, white. Yes, I will be making a few rope tricks.

You don't need to use this for cut and restored but for Sands stuff and Loose ends and Bob Sheets version of Timothy Winks trick Insomnia (is that correct?)

So, anyway, I'm happy. Been looking for this for a long time.

Thanks John. Does it have the core in the middle or is it just woven? Also, is it really white....and would you minding telling us the diameter?

P.S. Can you tell I am interested in this rope? :)

Sounds like great stuff! Does anyone know of any other dealers that carry this product?

Hello:

I may buy some of the rope from Hank Lee, just to see what it's like. Here's a link to some rope I bought from Steven's Magic. I bought the white and I'm very happy with it. It does not have a core.

No core but it's much more flexible than the Camirand stuff and thicker. It's pretty white. White enough. Not as white as the Camirand but white. The weave is thicker and looser. If you hold up both ropes about 2 or 3 inches the fat rope falls limp the Camirand falls slowly (Some may like it like that, but not real MEN!)

I like to flip the ends back and forth and catch them in my hand. With the Fat rope this is easy to do. You can easily flip the ends back and forth as you hold them in your fist.

For me this is THE ROPE. No question. I don't know the diameter but it's bigger than the 10mm stage camirand rope. It's about an increase of about half. It's either that or the fact that the weave is bigger and looser makes it look that way.

Thanks John! Great description. I can almost see it now! I'll have to pick some of this rope up the next time I order from Hank.

Once again... can anyone tell me of another dealer that sells this rope? It sounds terrific, and if Al, Magicgrandpa and John all recommend it, it must be good. I'd love to get some (but absolutely refuse to order from H.L.). Any ideas (perhaps sold under a different name)? Otherwise, the Stevens rope looks good too, and may be my best option (great price, too).

Here's some more rope from Stevens Magic - it's more expensive than the other, but I really like the sheen. I hope it's not like the Elite rope, as I like a softer, more limp rope.

I just ordered this and will report on it as soon as I get it:

Magiguy: If I find another source for the Big Fat White rope, I'll let you know. So far, I've only seen it at HL, so he may have an exclusive on it.

I received my Stevens Magic rope today. It is very nice - about the thickness of the rope you get from Pavel. It is hollow and very soft.

Here's a link to a photo I just took:

http://www.putfile.com/pic.php?img=5113832

As you can see from the photo, it is very white.

It looks like good stuff to me, are both of your links the same Stevens rope, Pavel sells 3/8" rope. Is it flat or round? Core or no core?

Hi Al:

I just received the "Dante's Rope" from Stevens which is more expensive. It's $15.00 for 30 feet. It has no core and is round - unlike the Elite rope which is flat.
