I too am interested in this. Rohmany is putting out effects at a Sankey-like pace. This one sounds interesting.

I've only seen him perform his Chaplin routine at the PCAM which was exceptional. Can someone shed any light on this effect and how it looks?

There is already a thread on this:

http://www.themagiccafe.com/forums/viewtopic.php?topic=203944&forum=218

According to one post, this isn't to be released till the END OF APRIL.

So, no, there are no reviews as of April 4th.

I also saw Mr. Romhany at the PCAM that year and he won the People's Choice Award with his incredible act. It really was a breath of fresh air to see such a unique piece of theatre. I got to see him again a year later in Murray Hatfields touring show and again he was outstanding with his Charlie Chaplin Act. His magic is so original and theatrical. From what I gather from his website he works mostly on cruise ships ... I would love to see his full evening show. I own one or two of his effects and they are fantastic as I use them myself. I would imagine that working on a ship for the past 7 years performing every week like he does you get the chance to really work out routines and develop new ideas. I will be ordering Dream Prediction because I love the premise of the effect. Will do a review once it arrives.
Check out his website (both) as you can get a lot of information on his career and where he works etc.

Hi Natmagic, could you tell me what are the other effects you have of Pauls, and a quick run down on them
Many thanks

Hi
Just quickly I have Impossible bill to Can which is a new item and it's veyr clever ... there is a thread on that in this section. It's a great routine.
I also have Heart String, a Ring on String routine but with a heart and it lends itself very nicely to a great themed presentation.
He is selling one thing I really want from his Chaplin Act and that is Ricki Dunn's Drink Trick. Once you see this in person you will understand how funny it is. I saw him perform his Artists Dream which is a full comedy routine and it's hilarious. It is part of his Chaplin Act and I see it for sale on the Hocus-Pocus website.
They have a video of him performing it on there.

The drink trick was wonderful...I'm curious on what changes you might consider to match the effect to your act...or does it already fit nicely...I don't recall heart string effect.
Message: Posted by: natmagic (Apr 5, 2007 05:32PM)
I would perform the 'drink' trick as part of something else that I do in my own show. It fits nicely to my bill in orange routine where I have the spectator already on stage and do 'paper balls over the head'. Such a great comedic routine.

Heart String is a walk-around or close-up routine using a heart shaped ring with some pretty cool moves and it's ideal for restaurant work or walk-about. If you visit hocus-pocus website at http://www.hocus-pocus.com they have a whole list of his products. I think there are over 20 different items from close-up to stage, even an illusion that he performed on one of his tours.

Guys I appreciate all the additonal information regarding Romhany products, but I started this thread to gain information regarding Dream Prediction..

You are correct, sorry. Will do the review once it arrives.

Hi all
I managed to get a 'sneak' preview of Dream Prediction the other day. Paul Romhany was here in Vancouver between cruise ships and a friend and I went and had coffee with him. We asked him about Dream Prediction and he took us through the entire routine! My first reaction was that it was something I could use in my own show! It is a very practical and 100% commercial one person prediction type routine. It is very open to other ideas and routines. As Paul told us, he sometimes performs a 'dream' date type routine with a lady from the audience, a little like Copperfields Dream Date routine.

Basically you have a large envelope with a clear window so the audience can see the prediction inside the entire time. You bring out a small whiteboard and have three people call out different things that are tied in with your routine. In Paul's case he developed this because of working on cruise ships so asks for a name of a ship, a destination and finally the cost. The envelope is opened and out falls a LARGE piece of paper with the prediction matching what the audience called out. Think of it as a giant confabulation type routine. There is NO forcing of any kind and it packs small and plays BIG. As soon as Paul showed us I saw the huge potential for it in my own shows! The final prediction reads like a 'letter' which matches the choices called out.

It was obvious to us that Paul has performed this so many times he has ironed out all the bugs. One of the many things I liked about it was that it is practical, no need for offstage assistants and is soooo easy to perform!! There are no moves as he has really thought about how to keep it simple so you just concentrate on performance.

Paul told us he had just finished filming the instructional DVD and he said it lasts over an hour of him going in to detail on the entire routine. It also comes with two gimmicked envelopes which should last a while, again he explains on the DVD how to put your own together so there is no need to have to re-buy them from him. He told us he can get six months out of his own envelopes.

Being a full time professional magician I knew I wanted to add this to my own show and could see the huge potential for developing my own routine for the corporate market. For anybody wanting a solid, commercial and stress free FUN routine then this is A MUST. I highly recommend it and it's going in to my show!

Thanks for the review Matthew
I know of your work and respect what you have to say, so if you've seen it in person and it is something you can use yourself then I am really looking forward to getting my own and adding it to my show.

NatMagic,

You are more than welcome for the review and thanks for your kind words.

Dream Prediction really is great guys! I kid you not. What makes it so great? (in my opinion) simple method + killer effect = magic that works in the real world. I do magic to put food on the table so I don't need to buy stuff that does not work...that simple! This works and I saw the potential in this effect from the get go!

Cheers,

Matt

Alym,

Thanks, great to be here.

Just thought I would put in my two cents with this effect as I like it! If anyone has questions I am more than happy to try and help (from what I have seen)

Cheers,

Matt

Well Mathew you were 100% correct!! Mine arrived and I have to say it's everything you said it would be. This has been worked on for over seven years and it is so easy to do you just work on presentation. I was glad Matthew that you wrote your review because it helped make my mind up. Here's what you get.

1) Two special gimmicked envelopes - you need to do a little preparation but that only takes a few minutes and once you do it it's done forever.

2) A DVD that shows Mr. Romhany performing this and a great instructional DVD where he explains absolutely everything in detail. The DVD lasts over an hour and by the time you finish watching it you understand everything 100%. There is some really clever and subtle thinking behind this routine that makes it so easy. I would imagine a lot of magicians watching the instructions thinking, why didn't I think of that! Very clever.

3) the stand (music) that works perfectly. Another reason I like this it is so compact yet obviously plays very big. The stand is perfect for the routine as everything fits nicely on it.

To me the great thing about this routine is that, as Mathew said, it is simple in method (very clever ideas here) and it equals killer effect. The potential for other ideas are huge. Mr. Romhany also explains a 'dream' date routine he sometimes uses on cruise ships ... along the lines of Copperfield Dream Date routine ... but you could predict anything.

The final prediction is on a large piece of paper which can be seen by the audience but also the printing is big so you don't have to worry about somebody wearing glasses.

A great commerical routine that I will now be working on and putting in my own performances.

The final prediction is also very large.

or more.

Using the materials supplied and the DVD instructions, could you easily construct the gimmicked envelopes in a smaller size and perform this effect using the same methodology and routine using smaller envelopes without the use of a stand for smaller, non-stage venues?

Thank you.

Hi Michael,

To answer your question....YES!

Once you purchase this effect you could make a smaller version for more intimate venues and close up if you wanted. That's the other great thing about this routine, it is so diverse. I also thought about making mine up on a smaller scale and doing it close up.

Cheers,

Matt
