13 Different versions of My "Scent of Darkness"?
Ok...enough with the shameless plug.
It depends on what you already have, and if you are talking about closeup or parlor.
Personally, I'd break it up into a number of smaller effects and items. Loughran's Rainmaker, Dougs Ripper set, Loughrans Entity (Unless you want to blow it all in one place- Then Loughrans Poltergeist), things like that.
There was a thread with a $750 cap a while back...Take a look!

Hi CC,

Instead of thinking "I have X money to spend, what should I buy for my show?," wouldn't it be more productive to think "What would improve my show, and what will I need to spend to achieve it?"

It is entirely possible that your best show investment isn't in a magic prop at all.

Thanks for the info.
For Neil, Thanks for your great advice. I buy the thing is more for my collection, I like collect magic items too...now I have more 1000 items, and most of them only for display on the shelf.

I've far more items than you, and almost use them all :)...
Well, if I've a little more than 1000 $ to spend, I probably buy an original edition of Polidori's Vampire. I miss that book in my Vampire Dpt.

I would buy a 16mm reduction LPP color print (film) of Wizard Of Oz BUT in your case I would order Three Original Zibits by Higley and make that Thousand turn into many thousands and still have them for on the shelf. I'll buy a Scent of Darkeness from Gwyd and throw that in along with the postage. :)

Hi fellows, thanks to make me laugh...heh..heh..heh....
hmm...or maybe you are right, I buy some gaffs, and make money from that.

Doug, what is the effect of Scent of Darkeness??

Message: Posted by: Doug Higley (May 3, 2007 02:16PM)
I PMd you about it
Message: Posted by: gsidhe (May 3, 2007 02:19PM)
There is a thread decribing the effect here-
And you can see it on Dougs site under "The Phantoms Midway"
But first look at his gaffs. My trick is good, but nowhere the straight up moneymaker that one of Dougs mer's, chups and other various critters are.
Let me know if you have any questions about Scent.

Oops...Simultaneous posting...Sorry Doug.

You can ask Doug what I bought the last time I had an extra $1,000.00 to spend.

However, to be fair, it was my turn to spend the tax refund, and I usually plow that money back into the business.

Right now, I'm torn between the idea of spending a grand on a better-than-average floating table and the performance rights to a certain bottle-shattering PK effect that is a reputation-maker. However, we've decided to do something different w/ the tax refund this year.
