Topic: The lemon game... as final routine?
Message: Posted by: Johnny_Dee (Jul 17, 2007 05:50PM)
Hi all, I'm looking for a routine to close my parlor type show. For stage I already own snow animator which is really great but it require technical elements so I keep it for my stage show.
I'm wondering, for those of you who own the lemon game, if you think that it is solid enough to close a show. Presently I close with shattered from Scott Alexander. It is great but in my opinion it is not strong enough to close. So I'm looking for another routine and my thought was for Lemon game. What do you think?
I would like to get your advices.

Thanks!

Johnny

I own it and perform it. I strongly believe it's highly effective as a closing number. I know Fitzkee said we should never close with a spectator on stage with us, but some of the strongest things I've closed with involved audience participation.

The Lemon Game is a killer routine if done in a relaxed manner. Audiences love this routine!

Edit*** I believe (I might be wrong about this) that Doug closed many a show with his Lemon Game.

Just getting into doing stage magic. have been bartending and doing close up for some time...but the shows I do on stage I start the show by telling a story, and ask for a dollar out from someone and exchange w/ a lemon of course...

I end the show w/ bill in lemon.. they love it.. of course they forget about the dollar and the lemon..so when I show it at the end.. it gets a good reaction.. just my two cents..

You're right. I have talked to Doug about his routine and he told me that he close every show with lemon game.
Concerning the fact to not close a show with an audience participation, I think that the important point is that the last routine should be something strong enough so people will remember and talk about after the show, audience participation or not. Apprently there is a lot of magicians who close with audience particiation: You, Doug Malloy, Copperfield... and I'm sure lot of other. Lemon Game will surely be a great add in my show.

Thanks!

I can not begin to tell you how many Bookings and
High-end client shows I have done because of Lemon Game.
Forget the fact that I am the creator, as a performer
I would not want to do a show with out it!

I am always encouraged when other performers tell me
how much success the are having with it as well.

All the best
Doug

Here too. I close all my corporate shows with the lemon game. I have always used one form or another of a bill in something to end with...but the game-show routine is very popular with the crowds. I have started to use it at some of my outdoor and family events as well and it is always VERY well recieved. Definately a good closer for platform and caberet shows. In our illusions shows we use it in the second half (after intermission) to "rev-up" the energy level of the audience and get them laughing before the closing big trick. Works every time.

Yes, Lemon Game is the perfect closer. I have used it as a closer ever since I got it. Their bill being in the lemon just blows them away every single time. In all, extremely clever thinking on Doug's part. I am so glad he has released this gem to the magic community. The hardware is really nice as well. Well, I did have a slight problem with the briefcase but that was a quick fix and didn't affect the workings at all as that was a feature of the briefcase.
