Topic: Son Jason fighting for his life...
Message: Posted by: Doug Higley (Mar 23, 2008 08:15AM)
All was well. Jason, (my oldest) his family, wife and two daughters and son were coming out for a visit from Florida next week. For about a week, he didn't feel too well, thought it was a stomach flu or some such, no biggie. Finally went to the Doctor yesterday and it was determined his apendix had burst sometime during last week. Prior to emergency surgery last night he said he never felt a thing like a 'bursting' was supposed to feel like. Blood work even showed normal but his Doctor had suspicions.

He is in intensive care this morning. he's a very good man with a terrific family. So whatever you do on an Easter Sunday...do it.

For those who collect coincidences, I received the call last night while we were watching The Ten Commandments...it was the scene where the First Born are being 'taken'. Surreal.

Hi Doug,

In the mid-70s I began feeling sick to my stomach and stubborn as I can be spent a couple of days on the couch, getting worse, unable to move much. Finally I went to the doctor.
What had happened was that my appendix didn't 'burst' per se but somehow perforated, was slowly getting gangrenous and poisoning me.

I was immediately put in the hospital and operated on.
Later they had to pump my stomach because, again being stubborn, I drank water when I wasn't supposed to.

I see no reason why Jason won't be back to normal soon.
Best,

Doug,

Thankfully, your son went to the doctor when he did.

Hoping that your son has an uncomplicated recovery and that very soon
your family will breath that ever so precious sigh of relief.

Good luck and thank goodness for modern drugs. I've known only one guy who had his appendix rupture and he went three days with it before he was found passed out and they had a few days of grave concern then they got everything in control and he recovered. So keep up hope he'll be fine.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Thank God they caught it in time.

When I was in the Navy, while out to sea two of my shipmates had burst apendix. One guy had to be airlifted to Perth Austrailia When we were in the Indian Ocean. The second guy, when we were pulling into Pearl Harbor. The only thing I remember was one of them had a bloted abdomin, I think?

Oh well...speedy recovery.

Doug - Add my name to those wishing for your son's speedy recovery.

I'd like to add that there has to be a happy medium between "toughing it out" and being thought a "hypochondriac." (sp?)

The case of Jim Henson who decided to work through his "annoying little cold" and ended up dying of a virual infection!

Hanging in there this morning. Still touch and go untill the threat of massive infection passes. The med team seems highly proficient which is a blessing for sure.

I worry as well about my Daughter in law, who is to the max in her engineering biz and who yesterday also had the youngest (Johnathan) in the hospital with the Mumps. Geez. Good training for the oldest daughter (Rebecca) who is getting set to go off to Medical school to become a Pediatrics Doctor specializing in BABY people.

This is an incredibally STRONG and tight knit family group and I couldn't be more proud of them.

Slim knows...he played a Birthday Party a few weeks ago for Rebecca's 18th and Bev Bergeron did my other Grandaughter's (Mindy) 8th birthday last year.

Your thougths mean a great deal so thank you for EVERY one!

I figure in another couple of days it will all be OK.

News last night not so good. Still in Critcal condition and evidently regressing 2 or 3 steps for every one forward. A battle is underway. Really rough on the family there. My Daughter in law was told of all your thoughts and prayers and being a religious person was more than appreciative and thanks you all deeply. Me too.

Again thank you!

Better news yesterday (late)...Some improvement. She began to get into details (as in DETAILS) and grossed me out...so all I know is 'improvement' since I cut her off. I'm not very 'detail' oriented when it comes to internal affairs. :)

Let's hope it continues this time. He needs another couple of days of 'that' word, improvement. Temperature was stable though and normal.

Message: Posted by: Doug Higley (Mar 27, 2008 07:38PM)
Just got a call and talked to him and there was one of those miraculous turn arounds today. He sounded good, normal even, where yesterday he could not speak more than two words to anyone. Looks good and if ok tomorow maybe can go home on Saturday. He says thanks to all you folks for the grweat support...looks like he dodged a real nasty bullet...of course he is already blaming the lousy Hospital jello substitute for keeping him down so long. :)
Message: Posted by: Josh the Superfluous (Mar 27, 2008 08:24PM)
Great news! The lack of my prayers seems to be working. I'll continue to not pray.

BTW is jello substitute made from press on nails?
Message: Posted by: CJRichard (Mar 27, 2008 08:36PM)
I do think it was Josh's non-praying that did it, and he beat me to the punchline.

Anyway, it's great news, Doug.

Thank you all so much! I got a call yesterday afternoon and Jason was HOME! Wednesday was iffy if he'd make it, still Critical condition. Thursday was a complete turnaround. And Friday they released him! Boy, he must have been a real pain in the ass about that jello stuff!

Didn't get to talk to him but will today (Saturday) I reckon. So you can all go back to thinking about Boobs again.

What a great bunch!
