Topic: Dan Sperry is releasing a New DVD on Doves
Message: Posted by: jasanchez (Mar 30, 2008 03:33PM)
I can't wait to see it. I pre-ordered mine two weeks ago. Hopefully, I will get it this week. He teaches his awesome sleeve toss. I would have to say he has the best sleeve toss. On this DVD, he also teaches how to train your doves to fly back. I heard he used new birds in his show after just training them for 8 days.

Dan, If you read this, can you tell us more about the new DVD?

Ok, I just got my birds. You're telling me that you can train your birds to fly back in just over a week??? I'm trying to get mine to just walk up my arm. I'll wait for a review...sounds exciting, though.

Here are a few links to the teaser videos I put out on YouTube...

Pretty much, it's the companion to the Deja Vu notes I used to sell at my lectures and now through Murphy's, but I've discontinued the notes and put it all on DVD now so you're learning in real time what I taught in the booklet. But you see it live, every day, backstage with me as I train the birds. Then, in addition, I teach 3 toss productions, 2 sleeve productions, and 1 holder toss production.

Bear in mind, birds are like people and learn differently. This was just my method of training, and I got lucky with the birds I had. I had had them for awhile, but they were merely back-ups that I had "just in case" I had to swap them out for my main birds. They were pretty tame already, so I think that helped, but it went to show you can teach an old dog new tricks...

PS...Yeah, we ended up being about a week behind on production because of Easter, and I had friends that popped into town so I got set back about 5 days on working on the DVD... They're done now and in the process of getting copied; should be all set to go out tomorrow (Monday), fingers crossed - Tuesday at the latest...

So, Dan, is it out yet?? I'd love to own a DVD! Does it include your entire act as well? It'll sure be cool to see it. The one on YouTube isn't the best resolution...

Thanks, Dan, for putting my dove from balloon on your video! I told you it's really killer. Takes a bit of work, but it is really worth it.

Hi Kyle,

The first few pre-orders went out today. You should be able to get it from your local magic shop within the next few weeks, or you can get it off my site right now... Nope, doesn't have the full act - for certain reasons. That's why the one on YouTube is at such a low resolution. Gotta always leave them wanting more, haha, but I guarantee you there is plenty of other goodies on the DVD to entertain you, even if you don't like the actual content from me, haha...

dan

Ok, kidding, Andy. Yeah, Andy gave me the dove in balloon idea for the DVD. Originally, I had a different version of dove in balloon with a toss/pop thing, but it wasn't as cool as this one. The outtakes of me trying to do it are probably worth the price of the DVD itself. haha

Congrats on the new DVD. The magic world really needs some new and updated videos for Dove magic.

"I'm sorry, who are you?"

I almost fell off my chair laughing.

Dan, you should mention the price and provide a link to purchase your DVD, as
well as a breakdown of the contents.

If that flyback training works so well in such a short period of time, I think that's an amazing price. I'm working with some new birds right now so I think I will try this on a couple of the birds and see how it goes. I'm really curious about the methods he came up with because obviously, his birds are very well trained, and that training really does show in his performances.

Funny story...
I was in vegas last year and my girlfriend and I saw his act. My girlfriend turns to me and says "Wow his birds are just way better than yours." hahaha I was like yeah thanks. Its funny because she didn't say that about Rick Thomas Birds, or Lance Burtons, nope... Only Dan Sperrys birds are "just way better than mine".

:)

Hey All ~

The Dan Sperry DVD is a wonderful addition to any dove workers collection. Excellent information provided by a true first class performer. I have been a Sperry fan since I first saw his performance at Abbotts many years ago and it is amazing in that he only gets better! Buy the DVD,,,,you won't be disappointed!

Thanks guys for the reviews, keep em' coming, feedback is key when you're releasing products, I don't want to have an ellusionist reputation haha, should make clear real quick since Kyle mentioned the XTREME dvd, that was made back when I was like 17 for a convention for Harry Allan for a lecture I did for him and his convention. It was oroginally out on VHS and was filmed in a day and is not quite as entertaining haha. Its a 2 dvd set and I talk forever, a little too long and is for beginners mainly. The technical tosses doesn't cover really anything about dove magic other than training and sleeve tossing and dove holder tossing. It moves pretty fast, but that's not to say its not for people who don't body load. Even if you do birthday parties and prouce a dove from a dove pan I try to gear all my products to people who do everything from a dove pan to a full body loaded routine. I know not many folks out there body load so I want to be able to tackle topics for everybody. I hope I achieved that and that the little blips in the video and sock upppets and Bea Arthur's cameo aren't too offensive...haha...

Thanks again,
Dan

oh PS, I should clarify that just in case you're wondering I took off my magic products from my dansperry.com site, there is a portal link on the main page of dansperry.com, just scroll down but now you can get my stuff for magicians at: http://www.anti-conjuror.com

don't mean to plug it but I've been getting lots of emails now that I redid my dansperry.com site so just wanted to help clarify, thanks again!

Hi guys,

Just finished watching the DVD and it was great. It had some great tips and was hilarious - especially the subliminal messages and the ending with the 'puppet'!

Can't wait for the next release. I am intrigued about what your I.H. looks like.

Well done Dan on another great product,

All the best,

~Ed

P.S. I'm getting great reactions with your dove from sketch pad!!!

I would have enjoyed the dvd if it were not for all of the subliminal EMO messages that were programing me throughout the viewing. I ended up buying some purple hair dye and crying because none of the cool goth fashions would fit me at Hot Topic. I must say that the counter girl with the pink hair and multiple facial piercings was genuinely concerned about me.

Aside from my own personal issues, the dvd is very good. Dan's very relaxed presentation style was easy to watch, and he throughly covers how he trains new birds to learn to fly back to him. For me, this was the most valuable piece of the video, as it offers a practical, training routine for anyone new to dove work. My original thought was why do I need every bird to fly back to me? - but it is also about building trust with each of your birds, so that they are comfortable with you.

I also like Dan's honest, real world approach to his dove tossing technique. He spares no detail in showing the viewer exactly how each trick technique is accomplished. His very informal, personal style makes the viewer really feel like he is sitting backstage visiting with Dan as he explains and demonstrates the set-up and execution of the dove toss/trick segments. And he even leaves in the times that the demoinstration didn't work, allowing the viewer to see the pitfalls that some routines have, and how Dan works to overcome them.

I highly recommend this dvd to anyone interested in learning about training your doves, as well as dove tossing technique.
