Topic: Mentalism in Seattle & Vegas
Message: Posted by: Harris0n (Apr 1, 2008 08:33AM)
Hello all

I'll be spending a week and a half in Seattle, followed by 3 nights in Vegas towards the end of this month, visiting my girlfriend's family.

I wondered if anyone could recommend any good mentalism related sights and sounds in these places.

The only thing I'm aware of in Seattle is the Market Magic shop. In Vegas I've had several people recommend Mac King's show (not strictly mentalism, but sounds great).

What else do I need to experience in these cities?

Many Thanks

I'll leave Vegas to some of the other guys here, but check out the magic shop in the lower level of Pike's Place Market while you're in Seattle. It's just a little magic shop, but it's always fun to check out and support the brick and morter shops.

That would be the Market Magic shop Harrison mentioned.

In Vegas, I would suggest going to see Penn & Teller. I enjoyed their show a lot, but I have been a fan for years. don't know if McCambridge still has a show in Vegas or not. If he does, you will probably want to get a seat for that one. Good luck and enjoy the trip.

The Seattle Market Magic Shop is wonderfully atmospheric with a nice collection of old posters...

A developer just bought the Hooter's Casino and plans to turn it into a boutique hotel, but the Hooter's site indicates that Gerry's show is planned to run at least through June 29:

I remember someone talking about a show in the seattle area in a haunted Saloon or something. Is that still on? Philemon might know?

Hi, Harrison! For a (relatively) up to date listing of what's going on in Las Vegas, check out our VEGAS MAGIC page on our local IBM web site: http://www.ibm257.com/index.php?pr=Vegas_Magic

Wednesday nights at 10 PM is the Gary Darwin Magic Club (at Boomers) which has been meeting for 42 consecutive years. Stop in....chances are you'll see someone you know from your past....or someone who you've recently read about in the trade pubs. Everybody who's anybody stops in to Gary's club when in town. If you're in town on Wednesday evening, April 29, 2008, be sure to come to Boomers where Gary Darwin and Fantasma IBM Ring 257 will be hosting our annual Magic Auction and Flea Market...details at http://www.ibm57.com

If you've got the time, and want to see one of the largest private collections of magic props, books, manuscripts, ephemera etc; in the world, let me know, and I'll set up a private visit to Gary's Museum while you're in town. Gary is getting up there in years and has been struggling with some health issues as of late, so don't pass up the opportunity to pay him a visit when you're in town.

Friday's at 11:30 AM, Fantasma IBM Las Vegas and KIDabra Las Vegas jointly host a "Magic Lunch Club"; an informal get together for lunch. Details on the http://www.ibm257.com website as well.

Check out http://www.VegasInsideTips.com which includes a column written by Steve Dacri and includes a list of what's going on, who's where, etc;

Please drop me a note on the "Contact Us" page of the http://www.ibm257.com website....one or more of us would be happy to meet with you upon your arrival and give you the personal, up-to-the-minute lowdown on what's going on in town.

See you in Vegas!

Oh.....You've DEFINATELY got to see Gerry McCambridge. Great performer and nice show!

Hi guys, Thanks so much for all the advice and info. It's much appreciated.

LVMagicAL, thanks for all the Vegas info, and for the offer of meeting me when I arrive in town. We'll only be in Vegas for two full days, and the magic shows have to fit around family, so I'm having to select one or two things that stand out to me. Looks like I'm going to be spoilt for choice.

I really like the Market Magic shop in Seattle and pop in whenever I'm in town. In fact I promised one of the guys there that I'd bring him a pack of John Smith's bitter when I was next over there. I hope he's forgotten about that, as my girlfriend doesn't exactly travel light. I shall do my best. I believe the shop's owned by Sheila Lyon, author of the excellent 'Gypsies Go Roving', though I've yet to meet her.

Thanks again for all the info.

Don't miss Steve Wyrick, I have heard he has a great show, I will be in Vegas with the wife from the 18th - 25th and plan to see Gerry as well.

Good Luck,

If you let me know exactly when you'll be in Seattle, I'll put you on the guest list for Fridays @ Heavens nightclub, where either Don Zellner or myself perform from 9-11pm.
