Topic: A `Brown List´ for Oppressive Towns?
Message: Posted by: gallagher (Jul 23, 2008 11:19AM)
Nice weather in southern Germany, Füssen; right on the Alps. 70,000 population. A nice pedestrian zone. I was setting up this morning, the city officials came and let me know, "Begging is forbidden." "That has nothing to do with me, I´m an Artist and my right to speak is protected", my responce.

To make a long story short, they halled us away.

I know Chance is going to show up here, and say, "Take `em to court! The sooner the better!! You´ll win!!!",.... and he´s right. As nervey, and time consuming, AND costly, as it is,... we will. BUT, until things change, why don´t we `Brown List´ towns? (Brown was/is the color of the Fascist movement throughout the world.) Now, I´m not saying, don´t go to `brown-towns´ and try to play them,... in between the controlers. I was thinking, more like avoiding such towns when thinking about vacationing,.... AND, let them know that you, or your family, isn´t coming because of "un-friendly-busking-conditions".

For example, my family wanted to meet next summer in Mertle Beach,... family re-union. Thru Joe-Joe, I/we know that `the beach´ ain´t cool to people like us. I said, "No, not there.",... so, now we´ll all meet in Philly. Plus we will all; my eight brothers and sisters and I; send the Mertle Beech Mayor, and Tourist Information Buro an E-Mail saying so.

OK, it isn´t go to change the world, but it pinches it a little.

Hey folks, there are 35,889 registered members in the Café now. Plus, Magic Clubs.
(Should the Magik Zirkel Germany, hold its Convention in Füssen, or Augsburg? I´ll say, "NO!!") A little bit of power we do have! I think we should use it to protect/ broaden our Art, our Craft, our Livelyhood.

Before I start listing towns, and take names of other towns to list; I thought maybe I/we should talk about it. What do you guys think???

a bit ****ed in Füssen,

p.s.: Hey Chance, I know you´re steaming,... and I know you´re right in your legal ways,... but what do you think about this idea, as well. I´d really appreciate your input and experience. Thanks

Of course the narrow minded city administrators will just think "Good Riddance! We didn't want them here anyway."

I feel for something like this to work, it would have to come from the general population, not just buskers.

Today we were stopped in Rosenheim,... after 8 minutes. We were told, "Street Art is now considered a form of begging,... that no longer fits in the picture of the town." I´m in the state of Bavaria right now, and this seems to be the hotbed of the problems. There are state elections in September, and the ruling party is setting thru a `City Cleaning Program´,... gosh, reminds me somehow of an `Ethnic Cleaning Program´ back in the 40´s,....

Tomorrow we´re hitting the streets again here. The newspaper didn´t believe our story. They want to wittness it.

Augsburg,...yesterday Füssen,....today Rosenheim. ,..hey folks, have you heard what is going on in Barcelona this year?,...they´re now demanding on Permit,..AND only `Permitting´ the Art on Los Ramblas. I think we should start saying, "STOP!"; in a loud, somewhat organized voice.

I talked about it with a good friend and great busker last night. He chuckled to me, "Talk about Ideals and Values,.. and Rightousness; and you´ll talk to a lot of deaf ears and empty faces. Talk about Money; and you´ll talk to a lot of `friends´.",... gosh what a sad thought,... I hate to believe it. The other thing he laided on me, and he´s shared it with me often is, "The Blessing, and the Curse of busking is the `Alonliness´." ,... what a word, eh?,... `Alonliness´.

Down, but not Out,

Hey gallagher,

just a question, how and why they can make an interpretation like this?

for me it's like saying dice are now balls, because I say so.

so where is their base to do so?

Hmm. Balls, whether cupped or in hand, are banned??? gallagher, thanks from me that you have the attitude that you endeavour to let buskers be buskers on the street.

Gallagher, this is disheartening at a time
when I am seriously starting busking....

But today I was in Nürnberg with my daughter
and we saw several happy and thriving Buskers
(Musicians, solo acts) in the main shopping area.

Maybe you have no better options,
but thanks for fighting the good fight!

As one of Bill Clinton's assistants said a few years back, "A stroke of the pen-the law of the land, pretty cool heh?" The people who give rights can take them away. Just ask an liberal activist judge.
