To all of those who are newbies just like me...

I just bought Doc Eason's Bar Magic Vol. 1 Video. Doc is an absolute MASTER of misdirection. I thought I understood what misdirection was all about until I watched this video and the explanations. :wow:

The set described on this video is all card magic. Even if you're not in to cards or in to bar magic, the misdirection lessons in the explanations are invaluable. I highly recommend this video to anyone who plans on performing magic for an audience.

Can you recommend any other book or video/DVD references for performance or misdirection advice? Tricks are not necessary, just good lessons/advice.

Thank you...and please do yourself a favor and watch this video!

I would recommend the following books:
"Don't Look Now" by Al Leech
"Leading with your head" by Gary Kurtz
"Magic by Misdirection" by Dariel Fitzkee
"The Books of Wonder" by Tommy Wonder & Stephen Minch

In my opinion, these are "must have" books for every serious student of magic.

I am going to quote part of a sentence from the book "magic by Misdirection" by Dariel Fitzkee:

"This skilled magician is an adept at disguise and attention control. He employs physical disguise with his apparatus. He employs pychological disguise-simulation,dissimulation,manuver,ruse,suggestion and inducement. He exercise absolute control over the attention of his spectators by forestalling it, by catching it relaxed, by dulling it.."
Daril Fitzkee

He will explain all this definitions in his Book.As Uli mention in his post.It is a "MUST HAVE".
