Topic: Looking for wood.

I came up with a nice stage illusion that accomplishes a really cool effect. It is a levitation that allows me to float an apparently very heavy box with people inside it. I need help making the box though. Its not really the box, Its more of the wood. I can't seem to find the right wood that wont break if an assistant is inside, But lighter than 10 pounds so it can be lifted by my assistant. Any suggestions?

Birch wood might work. But do you have to use wood? Can it be metal?

I wish I could figure out what you're trying to do... Is the person actually inside the floating box? How big is the box? Does it appear to float on its own, or will someone be holding onto it?

It may not be the wood problem but rather the structure of the box. How about using aluminium as the structure and then cover it up with lighter wood.

Just wondering why the assistant need to lift the box? And why 10 pounds or lighter?

Key phrase in his original post: apparently very heavy box.

A very realistic box can be made from foam core board on a light weight frame. What needs to be addressed is what the box is supposed to look like. Is it bare wood, painted wood, or soomething else? Scenery painting techniques can create very good illusions of many different things. You can even make it look like it's made of welded steel or solid brick.
