I just bought "The Little Egypt Book of Ghosts" and there's a routine that uses this prop. Can somebody tell me about this. It's not available any more. Thanks for any help.

I'm looking for one, too! I have a very practical use for it. I've been looking for one almost since they went on the market and then out of production.

There was one available some time ago, but the seller wanted collector piece prices for it instead of "going to put it in my show and beat the tar out of it" prices. (Translation: Originally-priced $60 prop increased in asking price exponentially due to scarcity and I wasn't willing to pay that much of an exponential.)

It is an updated version of "Arrow Through Hand" using a hand puppet and a knitting needle (I believe) instead of the arrow and burlap bag thingy.

My 'Little Egypt Book of Ghosts' should arrive today or tomorrow, so I'm not sure what you guys are talking about, but Google magician David Merry. I purchased his 'Acupuncture' effect which is a knitting needle thru the hand effect.

I don't know if this helps but I really like the trick & have added some subtleties, like letting a spectator hold on to my fingertips as the needle goes through my hand. Creeps them out.

It was a Magic Inc. prop. I ask them about it a couple of years back, but the new people there never bothered to answer. Years back, if you wanted something like that, Fran would run on off for you on her sewing machine.

Handa et. al.

A friend of mine had one and I believe he gave it away as a gift. The are now VERY expensive if you can even find one.

In my opinion this is spooky magic and not bizarre magic ... not that there is anything wrong with that at all. I just couldn't find a use for it, or I woulda begged the owner to give it to me ;-)

This was a trick called Voodoo Puncture Puppet by Michael Schwabe who worked at Magic Inc. and was also a puppeter, I believe he has since passed away. This was only available through Magic Inc. and is no longer available. He came up with an effect of a Voodoo Puppet that you would put your hand in, let the spectator feel your hand inside and then proceed to push a large hat pin through the center of the puppet and your hand. They could then continue pulling the need and attached thread out while feeling your hand inside! It was a cool idea, they usually now sell in the $400-$500 if you can find one, Michael hand made each one, and they are all a little different looking. The best person using one with simply the BEST routine is Brian Brushwood with his Mr. Happy Pants routine. You can see it here!

Hope that helps

Thanks for all the info and the link.

From what I knew the item was released through Magic Inc. but Michael had retained the rights to it, so it wasn't an "in production item" for Magic Inc. Of course, this adds to its value and scarcity as a collector piece.

I just stumbled across this link for anyone interested in buying a Voodoo Puppet Puncture as described in the "Little Egypt Book of Ghosts'. Apparently you can contact Michael Schwabe the creator and arrange a special order.

I'll ask a cupola of people who are heading for the magic collectors convention about this. Until then, there is this little blurb...

It appears that Michael is still making them and selling them for about $250. Seems better to support the originator and buy from him rather that on the secondary market for $150 over retail ($400+).

He posted less than a year ago on Murphy's and included his contact information for purchasing these.

I was with Brian Brushwood on Thursday for a Scam School episode and he said that Michael has retired the Mr Happypants puppet for Brian. You won't be able to get the exact Mr HappyPants look!

So Mr. Happy Pants was a marketed item????

The puppet piercing effect was, the routine and persona are all Brian's.

Thread has been dead for a while, but I have a quick question. Is the method of David Merry's Accupuncture trick the same as Michael Schwabe's voodoo doll trick? I do not know the method for either, so I ask before I spend $250 on the presentation of the same trick as a $35 item.
Message: Posted by: migwar (Jul 19, 2013 11:53AM)
Great question Dorian I too wondered the same.
Message: Posted by: dorian_faust (Jul 21, 2013 08:00PM)
I mean, no one has to tell me the method, I would just like to know if it's the same. It's a big decision.

?? I see David Merry's Accupuncture listed at $75, and I didn't know the puppets were still available (unless you have a line on a used one). So you're saying if they're the same, you'll buy the glove and then make a puppet?
Message: Posted by: migwar (Jul 22, 2013 05:29AM)
I actually own a puppet. The glove gives a completely different presentational angle. Once my wifes forgives me for the puppet I might purchase accupuncture.

I was just going by the price on here ( http://www.davidmerry.com/store.html ) where it said $35. Michael Schwabe still makes the puppets, and they can be ordered by emailing him.

Good to know about the puppets.
Strangely, it lists for $75 elsewhere on his site; but the $35 paypal link works so....

Is this THE Michael Schwabe, or the Zombie Michael Schwabe?

Michael, love the voodoo puppet and have wanted to order one for some time now.
Currently, I am saving my pennies for Prof BC's latest release, but I foresee contacting you in the near future to discuss an order.
Glad to hear you are still around.
Zombie or human.

My Voodoo Puppet Puncture arrived from Michael Schwabe on Friday. Beautiful work and great illusion.

Michael is charging $200 plus shipping and worth every penny. He worked with me each step as he built it and sent pics of progress. Very fast turn around and priority shipping with tracking. Excellent effect and service from a guy that was reportedly dead. :)

Michael Schwabe is alive and well. He just posted on SME Talk Magic yesterday.

I recently acquired the Voodoo Puppet from one of our fellow Café habitues. He very kindly sent through notes outlining the basic moves, but I am curious if there were formal instructions with the effect at some point. I have seen Brian Brushwoods inspired treatment, and I understand that there is a presentation outlined in in The Little Egypt Book of Ghosts, but I am wondering if there are other references that deal with presentation. I have sent a PM to Michael Schwabe without response. All of this to say, if anyone has refernces or instructions, I would love to know.
