Topic: Climax for rope tricks?

Does anyone have any idea on what to use as a climax to end a rope trick as in like a jumbo coin production ending in a coin routine?

If the routine is standard penetrations and restorations, some kind of 'color' change might be nice. :wavey:

I finish by throwing the rope out to an audience member. Some effects do not need a "jumbo" type ending. Imagine watching a routine with every effect ending in a Jumbo. I know that is not what you meant, I just mean a GOOD rope routine, done well should be logical and follow a path. Like Prof. Nightmare. A jumbo or color change at the end of that type of routine may be a "and look what else I can do!" :wavey:

Steve, we need a "my two cents" smiley ;)

I just couldn't think of a "kicker" other than a color change of some kind John. :)

I also give the rope out to the audience at the end, it establishes the normality of the prop, thus making the effects seem that much more amazing. :D

As far as the smilies...I'm working on some new ones.

If you're doing a one rope routine a cute finale would be strech the rope to a incredibly large size. Ali Bongo and Josh Jay both have methods for this... Ali's would probably be more suitable though.

If you're doing a routine with thinner rope you could turn it into the spectator's necklace that you stole, borrowed or vanished earlier. Heck, you could even strike an illusionist's pose and use flash string instead of rope and light it, turning it into the necklace. That would be original, right? ;)

Just a few thoughts off the top of my head, I'm sorry they aren't too original... I promise I'll do better next time! :bg:

When I was doing street magic, most of it as a mime, I would tie a loose overhand knot in the rope, with the spectator next to me. I would hang the rope over their wrist. Tied a second loose knot on the far end of the rope, and put my wrist through it. I would slo-o-o-wly pull on the knot along the rope
and it came off, like a bracelet, over my wrist. I would then stare at the spectator until they did the same... their knot became a sewn bracelet of rope as well. The spectator would hand me the bracelet after examining it. As they turned their back to me to walk away, I would hold up their stolen watch. Always got a great reaction.

For a kids show you can change the rope into a 260Q balloon (in corresponding colour) and blow it up to make a balloon sculpture out of it...

It will surprise you how many and how long audience volunteers will keep the rope piece from a show for years. It's magic rope!

A good way to treat the internal finale (as opposed to your end of show finale) is to use it to segue ( seg-way) into your next effect. So, if you plan to use a balloon effect next, Martin_H's idea would be a good way- turn the rope into a balloon and now you're doing your balloon routine. You could also turn it into a silk and use that silk to begin a silk routine. If you just change the color of the rope to red, you're still stuck with a red rope... BUT ... if you turn the rope into a red rope and then pass your hand over it to turn the red rope into a red silk and start in on (for example) a 20th century silk routine... now you're cooking on all four burners.

A "kicker" ending for rope tricks, huh? Isn't that what professor cheers comedy trick was designed for?

Here's an idea: changing your short rope into a 50 foot long rope :)

The following link is to a video in WMV format of a rope routing that I will be entering in competition next month at the PCAM (http://www.pcam.biz) convention in Victoria BC this August. I am hoping that the date of this post will establish this routine as my own. So PLEASE don't copy it but be inspired to create your own. I am only posting it to show the kicker ending for you guys/gals out there.
The routine is comprised of three segments. Part one is a section of Daryl's Rope Routine, Part two is from an Aldo Columbini lecture I attended and part three is an idea I took from the Professor Cheer routine.
The file is 17.3 MB.

Excellent! Get rid of the talking at the beginning. If you want to put a title on the routine, have your rope do the talking by forming itself into the words "Symphony of the Imagination." Hope you win, if not, you already won just by putting together such a beautiful routine.

Thank you for your kind comments. I did indeed win the contest. Gold Medal and $1000USD and bragging rights LOL.
I hate to say this but I have been asked to share the routine with a top cruise ship performer and must remove the video from public view as part of the deal I made. My appologies everyone.
