Topic: Working with two figures at once

Hi,

I was wondering how many of you are able to work with two figures at once?

And I don't mean with outside help, another person - I mean you doing both figures at the same time, one with each arm/hand, with all voices performed live.

I used to do such a routine with two figures at the same time. It did take quite a bit of rehersal to get it down with all the appropriate voice changes and operating both figures, while trying to give each of them reasonable animation, but it was doable.

Col Bill Boley has a routine with two hard figures :)

Kevin Johnson has a routine with two soft puppets :)

David Pendleton has a routine with a McElroy and a soft puppet :)

I have a routine with two Axtells :) orangutan and parrot...alternating with my turtle and dodo :)

I have yet to try 2 hard figures :) I was planning a skit with my Hartz old lady and Payes old man.

I might also try my Poyner figure with an Axtell parrot one of these days :)

If in the future I can buy an Axtell hands free orangutan, I will try three Axtell puppets together. A manual chimp using my left hand...a manual gorilla using my right hand...and the hands free orangutan with the remote inside the gorilla's mouth.

Hi gang,

I have this Valentine show this Saturday for a mall :) I need to do two sets...and was thinking of ending the 2nd set with a routine using my Payes old man and Hartz old lady together.

Can anyone suggest a script or routine please :) maybe the routine can start with a fight...then some reminiscing...then a happy ending. Maybe I can ask for some real life action from our old timers...so any suggestions AC, Dan and Donald?

Have the Payes Old man start yellin' and hollerin' and and tell the Hartz old lady, if she doesn't get her act together, and start cooking and cleaning better, he is going to list her for sale on e-bay, puppets & props, and ventriloquist central, and buy a nice young cute Selberg girl figure to replace her with.

Or maybe that is a little to "inside the vent" world to please an average Mall crowd in Manilla? hehe

Routine #2 for Wanlu

Have the Hartz Old Lady tell the Payes old man, she doesn't need him any longer... she is going to get plastic surgery, lip implants, and botox to look just like Angelina Jolie, then head to the nearest fertility clinic to get implanted with 14 little dummies in her.

And real pro dummies, mind you, none of that cheopo reapo conversion stuff.

Then she is just going to sit back, and live the good life with welfare, food stamps, disability payments, invites to venthaven, etc etc.. and all the other sweet stuff the gov ment is gonna give her and her little slot jawed bambinos. Maybe she can rent her kids out to Jeff Dunham or Terry Fator on weekends to bring in a little extra cash along with all the TLC channel specials she will be filming.

I think performing with two figures was double the fun...but double the difficulty as well. :)

The Payes old man and the Hartz old lady are at the end of this clp.

So how did it go? Can't wait to see the video! - oh, you posted at the same time I did!

Hi Tom,

It went well despite the fact that I practised in my native language which is Tagalog only to find out that the act must be in English :) Which was not a problem for my Axtells, masks, and Poyner. I had to scratch some jokes I prepared for the Payes and Hartz which I believe won't kill in English but would have brought the house down in Tagalog :)

Wanlu,
The video was still unavailable when I tried to view it. Must be processing - I'll have to check back later.

I am amazed by your skills! Manipulating two figures, creating the new routine to close your set in about a week and switching from Tagalog to English. I have enough trouble working one figure. Can't wait to see the clip!

I had to think of a closer that will match the Valentine thing and I remembered this thread :)

don't expect much from the video please...

Hi Wanlu,

Thanks for posting! Looks good! I just watched the Axtell portion, the first video is unavailable. Did the Payes/Hartz foundation have issues with it?

Looks good, I love that stage, being large, above and back from the crowd, really gives you a "commanding" look.....much nicer than some venues that are lower, and you have the front row close enough that everytime they smile, you can identify who has and has not had their teeth straightened, what they had for dinner, and if Colgate "whitening" or "plaque removal" would be more appropriate for them.

Oh - and in that video, about 3/4 way through, 14th row from the back, in the middle, a little to the right....do you happen to have the phone number of this girl? She's a cutie. ; )

Wanlu the link now works and you did an OK job with the 2 hard figures. You will certainly have to work on the manipulation a bit more but not bad for the first time!!

Thanks Dan :)

I certainly need to practise more on the routine and manipulation...specially the part when I'm talking to one figure and the other one should still be moving. :)

I don't intend to do this on a regular act...just when I need to show something new or when the theme of the event is about couples :) But Iwill contnue to practise the routine, this time both in Tagalog and in English. :)

Thanks again Dan :)
