Don't ask me any questions because I really don't know what it is, but I think it's next!

We all go nut's for new Outlaw Effect's, Rick has not been wrong yet, even if you don't perform his effects, you have to admire the high quality and brilliant method's, but his effects can be transormed to any magic medium .
Message: Posted by: spindoc (Jun 20, 2009 05:11PM)
The advance skinny on ODW is intriguing...it's not a large wallet like the Hideout (think business cards) and it employs a method different and even more devious than the working of the soon-to-be late and lamented Magnum.

I'm excited about the Opus Diablo. I've already pre-ordered mine. However, I have to mention how surprised I am when I learn from friends how many peek wallets they own, yet... they don't do an Acidus peek. My favorite peek is impromptu, uses an index card or business card, and happens without a wallet.

If I didn't already do Acidus, I'd buy Millard Longman's Acidus materials, then buy one of Outlaw's peek wallets. Between the two, I'm always prepared.

My two favorites: 1) Acidus, and 2) the Magnum.

I recently got one of the few magnums left and also pre-ordered opus diablo. This is the first time I pre-order something,I always try and wait before buying a product, until it gets ten billion good reviews but reading Cafť posts for a long time, I learned to trust outlaw about peek wallets,im sure it will be a good buy.

First off I'd like to thank Paul Brook for endorsing the Hideout, means a lot to me.

The hideout is a full size bi-fold hip pocket Swiss army knife of mentalism wallets.

The Diablo, Magnum and Panther are leather business card cases.

Hope that helps :)

No other bi-fold wallets in the werks.

Not sure that I would call what the Opus uses as "technology", it's "design" that is new.

That is one of the killer applications of this wallet.

You can PW or swami and remove the prediction from a snapped shut pocket on the OUTSIDE back of the wallet.

There it is boys.

I just spilled some big skinny :)

We need some good stuff after this depressingly surreal week.

Message: Posted by: Mike Ince (Jun 28, 2009 04:18PM)
That certainly ups the ante. It may be a little more expensive, but that PW/NW feature will be worth it. Very cool. Makes that pre-order discount even sweeter now.
Message: Posted by: daghank (Jun 28, 2009 04:22PM)
That sounds really good, is that the main function of the wallet or is the optical peek as good as the one with magnum?
Message: Posted by: Mike Ince (Jun 28, 2009 04:39PM)
That's also my question. The fact that it's more than a peek wallet presents a new dilemma: will I replace my Magnum with Opus Diablo? I understand the OD probably doesn't have the tech built into the Magnum, which is probably fine (it means versatility in more lighting conditions). What I like about the Magnum is the completely open peek... I can really take my time. I can even set it on the table before I do the work. However, the "special something" in the Magnum will eventually wear out if you use it as much as I do. I'd love a slow, hands-off open peek without the lighting issues (I feel I might be asking for miracles). I feel I'll probably be happy with what the OD has to offer. Will it replace what I have? Guess I'll wait and report back once the OD has arrived. Perhaps an OD/Hideout combination is the ultimate answer.

All I will say now is, you can put a peek card in the OUTSIDE pocket, snap it shut, and still peek the card.

No more questions will be answered for now :)

(I'm thinkin about raising the the pre-order price. O.D. is my most expensive manufacturing cost for a wallet)

BTW, I sold over 600 original Outlaw wallets and they did not use 3M filters and guys love them.

I personally do not think you need to be so "fair" that you need to have it sitting on a table.

The wallet is not a magic prop, its a wallet. Comes into play for a moment, and then is "forgotten"

O.K. more PM's comin in so I'll answer some questions to keep the speculation down.

1. There are pockets on the inside, but because of the diabolical design, there are only 3 pockets inside.

2. Yes there is another type of 3M filter used. :)

3. The outside snap pocket will hold business cards or credit cards.

It is NOT the off the shelf computer privacy screen filter. It is similar to the Magnum filter.

BTw, this will probably be a limited run wallet. There is only enough filter to make about 150 units (which should last a while :))

Iíve also been having tons of fun with Millardís Acidus Novus lately. Itís quick, easy to perform and highly motivated. Best of all, the participants never suspect a thing. There are some really great sources for learning the basic Acidus Novus peek, but Millardís Acidus Novus package goes far beyond the basic peek. Itís my favorite mentalism product at the moment.

Of course, bringing things back on topic, I am certain that the Outlaw wallets are every bit as good as the hundreds of satisfied customers claim them to be.

Very close. I showed the prototype to Ran Pink at lunch today and he will probably post some thoughts.

I will have them late next week. They're made in Europe and the first run is shipping shortly.

I needed to revise and tweak it so it was exactly what I wanted. It's a long process, especially when the manufacturer is 7,000 miles away :)

Anyone interested in Diablo can still save $40.00 off retail for about 5 more days and then it goes to $125.00

No zipper in the Diablo. But you can load a billet or folded card into a snapped shut pocket.
Un-snap the pocket and pull it out.

If it had gears and computer chips and levers and looked like something out of a Terry Guilliam film than the spec might get suspicious

So forget the shipping date issue...

Why is this now listed for $100 on the Outlaw Effects website? I think I remember seeing the pre-order price go away and be replaced with $125 for a brief period. Why the reduction?

Because the shipping was pushed back about 10 days. When the wallets come in again it goes back to $125

Here's the skinny boys, and it was a black day at Outlaw about a week ago.

About 7 days ago the box of Diablos came in from my manufacturer. It's a small company overseas that makes some of the most famous wallets in magic (including the Magnum and Hideout)

The Diablo has some very precise gaffs in it.

When I took out the first wallet and tried it, there was something wrong. One of the gaffs was literally only 5 millimeters off, but it caused the "action" to be a little harder than it should be.

It was still workable, and in fact Ran Pink has been using one for over a week while he routines some ideas.

The wallet worked, but it would take a little practice and a bit of a learning curve.

That was not acceptable

It had to work like a hot knife through butter, like the prototype I approved.

The manufacturer made a gaff off by 5 millimeters and I will not ship them like that.

I tossed 80 wallets out, period.

I could have shipped them.

I'm a bit stressed just from waiting for the original shipment to get here, you can not imagine how I felt when I new I could not ship the wallets when they arrived last week.

I'm loyal to the manufacturer and as soon as he learned that his workers had blown the gaff they started on a new run.

The run will be here in about a week.

It was very hard not to ship these because they do work, just not as easily as they should.

I just didn't want even a single buyer saying "it takes some practice and then you get used to it".

It is as easy as putting the card in the pocket, and that's the one I'm going ta ship.

Rick

I've been considering a wallet like this for more than a couple of years and am very pleased to wait for a correctly functioning model. Having been burned on more than one occasion partly by my own eagerness and partly by dealer greed I lean a little too far toward the skeptical side when it comes to magic business ethics.

The obvious answer to the following question is "...if you are purchasing one of these then you should already know what to do with it..." , and I pretty much do --- but not being the most creative guy in the world my preference is to purchase well thought out routines and then tweak them over time to suit my presentational style (or lack of such). Does Outlaw Effects publish routines with their wallets and/or can those in the know recommend good sources for routines utilizing a wallet like Opus Diablo? My hope would be to use this wallet in such a way that it is hardly remembered as being part of the routine. I have the first set of Osterlind DVDs but not Banacheck.

Best wishes to Outlaw Effects for success with this and other endeavors.

The instructions may not come with lots of routines, but the forums over at Outlaw can give you lots of good stuff/routines to go along with any product you purchase. I suggest going there as soon as you get your wallet and giving them a good read. It'll get the creative juices flowing!

The Opus Diablo will actually be the first Outlaw wallet that DOES come with routines :)
Ran Pink and Gabe Abelson are jazzing together with the Opus. Ran has already written up some very very cool stuff.
As a newbie to these types of wallets you will find hundreds of additional ideas on the private Outlaw wallets forums, which all wallet buyers have access to after their purchase.

Might start shippin friday. If not they are definitely shippin Monday! The Diablo comes with custom window gaff that you boys will love.
Designed by Ran Pink-an additional cloak.

Either way they will be hittin mailboxes next week

Ran Pink has a great booklet for Diablo. First time an Outlaw wallet comes with routines.

Of course there are tons of ideas on my wallet forums. When you buy any Outlaw wallet you get the passwords to ALL the Outlaw wallet forums.

There will also be an Opus Diablo forum up by this weekend.

Rick,

Thank you for the update sir.

I am sure most us of us can understand how difficult it must be to run one of the greatest (if not the greatest) internet mentalism/bizarre shops of our time.

Sometimes it is hard to understand that people need to be ... human every now and then.

In our Mcdonalds drive through way of living, sometimes it is hard to appreciate a home cooked meal.

It take a bit longer to fix... and sometimes you decide to add gravy to the potatoes which can take a few extra minutes...

but the quality

(shakes head)

is incomparable.

I appreciate it.

and this just isn't the "posse" talkin'.

I think it can be said for everybody.

You and your work are appreciated.

We all know he tries his hardest and he is only human (right???)

Actually is he really human? I havent seen anyone do that freaky head thing before. He must be some sort of alien or creature from another dimension.

The products are always worth the wait.

We added a U.K friendly gaff that will be ready tomorrow.

There will also be a page on my site to buy additional gaffs for domestic or Int. buyers.

If you look at the thread in Inner Thoughts you'll see pictures. We added a British Airways customer support card gaff :) (not pictured yet)

I was going to ask the same thing Harry just asked - guessing you can switch the facing card yes? My only other question is, is this practical as an everyday business card case the same way the Hideout is practical as an everyday wallet? Will it hold say a dozen cards? Thanks!

The manual tells you how to make your own card.

The U.S. wallets will go out with a fedex gaff and the INT. ones will go out with a British Airways gaff.

The wallet can be used without the card gaff too.

As far as "how practicle" is the wallet. It is a gaffed specially designed wallet (card case) to do some very specific mentalism effects.

It was not designed for a Lawyer :) (not that there's anything wrong with that)

The wallet will hold 10-12 business cards.

If you decide to make your own version, You purchase the material yourself (easy to get).
The gaff that comes with the wallet is removable of course, but has nothing to do with making your own, the gaff I give you cannot be altered.

Once you have the material takes about 30 minutes of your time to make.

Just got my Opus today! I examined this thing inside and out, and there's no way it should work. But work, it does. And beautifully, at that. The cloaking is so deceptive, it just seems impossible to p**k. And if that's how it appears to those who know its secret, imagine how deceptive it is to the layman who's about to get his brain fried! Wow. Can't say enough about this brand new M.O. combined with the technology. It's going to be the only p**k wallet I use from now on (and I must have 30 different kinds). There's no other p**k wallet this deceptive on the market today.

Hi Rick,

I looked on the Outlaw site, but couldn't find the FedEx card you mentioned. Is it not up yet, or did I not look in the right place?

Regards, Steve

To all users of the OD, please take note.
The Ran Pink booklet clearly states that if you put the wallet hot side up near yourself (it mentions on a table and on a spectators outstretched hand) then the angles are great- this is Wrong!
The angles from directly in front of you are pretty good but people at all to the side will have as good a peek as you do. I'm talking from experience as this happened to me (luckily it was only my wife who caught the peek).

I PM'd Rick about it and he wrote back saying that it's not a 3M filter and not designed like this. The filter is cloaking only and shouldn't be left in the open. This is contrary to what the instructions say.

This isn't a complaint, just sharing my experiences so no-one else gets burned.

I think it's a great wallet and I especially like the PW function of it.

All the best
