Topic: Most Anticipated of 2010
Message: Posted by: vinnymac (May 4, 2010 02:44PM)
I thought this would be an interesting topic, and haven't seen it discussed yet, correct me if I'm wrong...

What, in your opinion, is (or was) the most anticipated mentalism product/book/ebook/effect of 2010?

My view so far: The Outlaw Showdown by Outlaw Effects

Just interested in everyone's opinion on this, thanks.
Message: Posted by: IAIN (May 4, 2010 02:50PM)
Well, with the showdown - its not "anticipated" as I see it, its just we've had to wait a long, long time for it to appear..it was announced last year I think...but then there were delays...

I'm interested/excited about the new colin/paolo book, I always look forward to what richard hennessey puts out over at mentalcraft.com cos I love his TK stuff and pendulums...

I'm underwhelmed that I've just started writing a new book...i'm sure others will join me...

oh and I hear mr. riggs has some new "things" coming out sometime this year...and I always love and enjoy using what he puts out...

I think that's it for me, oh and whenever alakazam release the docc dvds...that'll be good too..

How do you know it's a real book - he may be lying. ;)

I'm looking forward to the Serpent Wallet, Colin and Paolo's new book and the new products Promystic will have on offer later this year.

And now Iain's new book which I was not aware of. :)

My intuition tells me you're looking forward to these for the same reason I'm so looking forward to the release of the "Word To Your Mother" Book Test – so that they'll finally be done and out of your hair, and you won't have to deal with them anymore. ;)

Stuff I'm really looking forward to: Patrick Redford's "Square," and the advanced muscle reading DVD by a performer whose name I can't recall at the moment.

Probably a better assessment would be to say that it is in Marc Sky's basement...

However I don't understand why you and a few others don't get the fact the book was done and sold for a high price to a few selected people who Ted personally trusts.

You were late or not in the loop... and now it's gone!

And my copy is not collecting dust, I tell you...with its 195 pages and its fine black leather covers, it's a joy to hold and re-read from time to time...

As to me, I am waiting THE BRIDGE from Bill Montana which seems to explore the possibility of controlling dreams... FOR REAL! ;)

That's right, As Ted trust me only to 5% he sent me only the cover.

I can't say it's a joy to re-read because there's nothing to read, but I can say it's joy to watch it.
The cover is nice by the way :)

Looch, what's mute the silent book test?
Could you please a little bit elaborate?
I don't use yet mute people in my show but perhaps it will be a good idea, you can say what you want and do some incredible mind reading and he can't tell to the audiences you're wrong.
I'll thinking about that for my next show.
Btw, the deaf book test will be a good idea too!

The Book of Revelations - This is the most anticipated mentalism book I'm looking forward to.

This is what was posted way back in October 2008

Introduction: From point A to point B

Welcome! This book will be a bit of a departure from the standard books on the market today. The biggest difference apparent will be the lack of inherent “method”. There are a variety of ways to obtain the information necessary for the presentations in this book – method is not the focus of this work.

There are hundreds of books, DVDs and e-books detailing methods for secretly gaining information from our audiences. From peeks to impressions, to switches and more. We forget that to our audiences these techniques are invisible and so it is not how you gain the information, but how we USE the information that we should be focusing our time and efforts on.

Getting from point A to point B is EASY (or it should be with the variety of resources and methods on the market today) knowing what to do once you are at point B is what is hard.

The focus of this book is impact. What can YOU do with that information that will hit the audience as hard as possible?

All too often we become, as performers (myself being guilty as well) wrapped up in the HOW, trapped on the JOURNEY. We forget about the end result or the DESTINATION. For performers the effect is usually about the journey, we get caught up in the shiniest method, or the coolest gadget. Audiences don’t realize what is going on in these moments (or at least they shouldn’t) and could care less. If they care – you are in big trouble. Do not get me wrong – the journey is important – in my opinion it’s just not the most important part of the effect.

This book will cover revelations of the following pieces of information…

• Playing cards
• Words and bits from Book tests
• Drawings
• Names
• Questions
• Psychometry work

It is my hope that this book will give you a tool or two to use in your own work, furthering the idea that the pieces you have in your arsenal today ( method wise ) are already powerful, and you truly need to take what you have and elevate it with presentation. This book is about presentation.

One of a few things I have had a glimpse of in development and am looking forward to is 'Distorted Thoughts' by Jack Curtis. He is a devious mentalist, experienced performer and has some superb routines. Keep an eye out for it.

Mentioned already but on my list too are 'The Book of Lies' by Paul Brook and the Docc Hilford DVD's from Alakazam.

Parmenion - "Mute" is a SILENT booklet test

Participant follows a simple set of instructions on the first page of the booklet and 30/45sec later they have a word/picture/memory in their head. At NO TIME anyone (participant and performer) have said a word yet the performer knows with 100% certainty the exact thought the participant is thinking of (No force neither)

Its a visualisation study from the department of psychology of Falken College

Coming this year! :)

don't even get me started on the Area Booktest!!!!

I'm not sure how much I'm allowed to say yet, a full description would be better coming from Craig himself!

Needless to say I have been working with them for a while now and the more I use them, the more ideas I think up they can be used for! I can't say exactly what they are for because I guarantee that everyone who buys them will be using them for something completely different!

I'm literally using them for things from drawing duplications across the stage, to chair tests... but they can probably be used for everything in between!

Like I say, Craig will be able to tell you more, these are just a few things I've been using them for, but I can honestly say that it's something you can get excited about!

It's not about the price I guess;
the essential part is if this work is the right one for you.
If it is, a price is of less importance from my point of view.

Bill will do some additional work on the script;
but those efforts are more a matter of thoroughness.
I guess he will announce it when the time is right.
