Hi, all:

I'm considering ordering one of these. Anyone have experience? Can two hard figures fit it? (Not for transportation, but for quickly switching between figures on stage.)

room for just ONE figure.

You might have to go down the custom case route.

Hi Bob. What did you get in the end? I'm rethinking my storage/performance cases at the moment, any ideas?

I just got a regular case from Clinton Detweiler for travel.

For performances, I have been standing my travel cases on end on two chairs off to the side of the stage. The puppet sits in there until I go get him/her. This works fine for most of the comedy venues where I work. At other times I will bring a portable backdrop and set the puppets up behind it. I have dialog with the "backstage" characters to cover my going behind the backdrop to leave off one puppet and get the next.

Jay Johnson recently posted on his blog that he uses a hard case made by the Swiss army knife people to carry the heads of his hard figures. These cases look gorgeous, but they're very pricey.

I second Bob Baker's use of the Clinton Detweiler (Maher Studios/Dummy Works) professional cases.

They are sturdy, built to last, and come in several sizes. I believe they can even be made to custom measure.

Clinton is also a pleasure to communicate with and transactions are conducted smoothly. Lee Cornell also is a fan of these great cases, as I seem to recall Lee was the first one to let me know about them.

Thanks Clinton and Lee!

Ditto to what Jonathan said. I have three of Clinton's cases and they work great for me.

I am still a huge fan of the Porter Case when flying. The case is hard-sided in the event of having to check your carry-on. It also opens into a cart to haul your checked suitcase, which makes luggage management very easy.

For shows where I don't fly, Cabbage Case's Lite Flite is my top choice. Strong, light weight, with wheels and a retractable handle. Makes load in and load out extremely easy.

ALL of Clinton's products are "top notch", IMHO! His cases are very well made!

Tom, I just received my porter case. I have my first "tour" requiring me to fly with my show and decided to go with your advice on the porter case. I must say, I AM IMPRESSED!! I can't wait to see how it all works with the rest of the luggage but I am most impressed! I got mine through Amazon at a discounted price and it is fabulous! Thanks for the advice!

Congratulations Lisa on your first road trip. Stay safe and don't let Lili stay up to late. She is still a growing school girl you know.

I promise I won't let Lily stay up too late - she is just glad not to have to be stuck in the van for hours on end!! She gets to fly "carry on" which is more like first class as far as she is concerned, and the travel time is WAY less - she gets cramped when we are in the car for 6 hours and she lets me know it!!! However, the porter case has a little more "wiggle room" for her so she was happy about that but wants to accessorize! I am not going to let her have anything to drink though. If there are children near me I just may get her out to have a chat! She doesn't get to do that we we are traveling by van!!

Glad the Porter Case worked out for you! I LOVE mine. I usually carry it and my laptop as a personal item.

I'm trying to rethink things now. The airline lost one of my suitcases on the way to Indiana. It happened to be my prop bag with my travel table and a brand new puppet. (K.A.R.L. 2 - by JET) Luckily I still had my basic show in the Porter Case, so I was able to perform. That suitcase didn't rejoin me until the following day, for a show in Florida.

I'm trying to figure out how to pack a personal bag to handle the computer and a second puppet. Flying is always an adventure!

Look on our site (the one with the "pe") under accessories. We have a bag that would hold a puppet and a laptop. The bag can also come with either your name or the name of a puppet embroidered on it. That might help.

What a nightmare not having your bag show up! That is my biggest fear flying to do shows! I like driving knowing that everything is right where I put it! I am going to have to think carefully on how I pack my porter case - I have a direct flight so was thinking that I would probably be okay, but you never know!

Any body have any more ideas on performance cases? I have to down size my flight cases as they are not doing my back any good at all.

I guess Selberg is also selling a very lightweight case... You might want to ask him...

If you look on the "accessories" page of our site, we have some very lightweight cases that we recommend for soft puppets. The can be custom embroidered with either your name or the Puppets name at no extra charge, and will give your back a break rather than breaking your back.
