First they beat Canada in hockey. Now they knock off Spain in soccer. What next?

It's the holes in the cheese. Oh, yeah, and those special bank accounts.

They might win the World Series -IF they're the best in the "World"!

And next...they'll have the world's largest navy!

Don't know about the world's largest, but certainly the best - never lost a battle.
Of course, it's a bit tough for the opponents to get to the lakes, but that's their problem.

Didn't Switzerland win the America's Cup a few years back?

I am convinced that a lot of the stereotypes regarding Germany, Germans, and the German language are actually based upon Switzerland and...wait, I'm serious...Holland. Especially Holland.

There is a kind of oppressive orderliness about their lifestyles. Forget Amsterdam. Go out into the country to the smaller towns and you'll see that everybody's law is mowed perfectly and regularly, everyone's house has been kept up, the sidewalks are clean of gum, grime, spit, and dog doodie.

And everybody belongs to one sports club or another. Sports are very organized, very disciplined, and kids are trained from an early age by credentialed professionals who know what they are doing.

So in the end, small but overly orderly and organized countries like Holland and Switzerland perform all out of proportion to their size. Sweden, Denmark, Holland, Switzerland, Austria...all have the same sense of Nordic orderliness and professionalism.

Think about it: all of them are world powers in sport. Winter sports, soccer, track and field...they're all up there. And none of them has a population even approaching Canada's. Not even close.

It's a Nordic thing.

Even Hitler was smart enough not to go to war with the Swiss.

Not quite. Citizens between 20 and 34 are required to enlist in military service. After their duties are completed, they either return their guns or have them modified to single-shot.
