PAUL VIGIL WILL BLOW YOU AWAY

"When Vigil appears, magical things really do begin to happen in his wake. Mysterious things capture the imagination and rupture the skeptical adult heart. The astonishment he creates feels as wordless and giddy and excitingly foreign as a feeling of first love.

This is magic in lavish abundance.

This is the world of Paul Vigil

His magical artistry is raw and potent – elegantly constructed, perfectly scripted and flawlessly executed. You will be fooled, badly, even when you know what’s coming next. More than that, Paul’s magic leaves you open and wounded, but in a good way – like you’re better for having experienced what many swear to be “real magic.”

Vigil is a rare breed of magician. He’s a true believer in magic – as an art form, poetic device and creative living exercise. Magic isn’t just a career or a calling for him. It is nothing less than a way of life whose fruits can be shared and enjoyed with others. In his hands, magic sleights are heavenly meditations. They are joyous ceremonies of creation.

To Paul and those who deeply feel the effects of his work, magic is not a puzzle to solve. It is a state of being to embrace. Vigil adheres to the idea of creating magical moments that last for years or even a lifetime.

The result is something elegant and sophisticated – a script peppered with vicious linguistic ploys, intuitive gambits and invisible knuckle-busting sleights which separate the men from the boys. These seeds of wonder – these beginnings or a miracle – are coddled, cradled and nurtured by a man whom many consider to be magic’s best-kept secret.

By blending past and present, chemistry and psychology, linguistics and sleight of hand, Vigil has assembled a profoundly powerful toolkit for producing magical experiences for others, experiences that wildly transcend simple card and coin tricks. Paul Vigil’s magical art form originates from the soul, and that is where it is felt ..." - jay fenster

Paul Vigil will present his full evening show at IMX in what is guaranteed to be a truly unmissable experience.

And with over 20+ of the finest performers from across the world joining Paul for 3 days of nothing but magic - IMX is going to be a feast for the senses.

Thanks to John for sending me the below.

http://www.linkingpage.com/magicnewsfeed/2010/1/15/mnw-181-paul-vigil.html

A great interview with Paul Vigil by Dodd Vickers. EVERYONE who's had the opportunity of seeing Paul live only but raves. Can't wait ...

"Paul Vigil has often been referred to as "the best close-up magician in Las Vegas". He's a free thinker and an explorer of the mind of both the performer and the spectator. Above all else he's a man who loves the art of magic. With an intensity that engages the most cynical of audiences, Paul has become a "Must see!" in a city known for it's ruthlessness towards performers. "I'm here to be the best--not only at what I do, but at what can be done--period. I want my audience to experience something they've never experienced ever before. I want them to feel something they've never felt before. I want my audiences to believe something they've never believed before; until they walk away from my show." I our interview we explore why magic is so important to him and what secret project he's working on in Las Vegas."

Can't wait for this big event! I've just booked myself in. I must say that this has got to be one of the most biggest and cheapest conventions I've ever seen and can't wait to meet up with other fello magicians!

Is anyone else from the UK going to Vegas in May?

An evening with a true legend of magic ...

David Berglas is a performer who needs no introduction. He is a legendary man of mystery whose exploits are unmatched in the history of modern magic. David joins us as our special guest via live video conference at IMX 2011 for an unforgettable evening that will pull back the curtain on this truly remarkable man.

Derren Brown says it all: "One of our greatest living magical performers ..." David defined magic on British television as one of the very first magicians with his own television series ... Winston Churchill, Aristotle Onassis, Paul Getty, the Rolling Stones, Elton John, Michael Jackson, the Sultan of Brunei and most of the British Royal Family have all experienced first hand his incredible miracles of the mind.

From stage to screen – he has acted as creative consultant on numerous major films and the list of Honours accorded to the man is incredible. While many know of his extensive career on stage – few know of his incredible work behind the scenes through his Foundation for Promoting the Art of Magic. His philanthropic endeavours have benefited the magical fraternity the world over and given hope & joy to thousands of young people from some of the most destitute conditions imaginable.

His story in magic is without a doubt larger than life …

Known for his numerous publicity stunts including going down the notorius Cresta Run blindfolded, manipulating and even smoking cigarettes underwater(!), performing Russian roulette, and touring the world, lecturing on and demonstrating memory feats – David’s performance remains unmatched. While his signature pieces include the levitation of a heavy table and a dangerous pulse stopping routine – the most beautiful of all comes in the form of a card effect … the “Holy Grail” of Card Magic known simply as “The Berglas Effect” … to see it performed – is to believe in true magic.

Experience the joy all over again at IMX as we celebrate the man, the magic & the mystery that is David Berglas ....

Time is getting closer, friends are coming from the UK because I told them they had to join us. We are all getting excited. It is going to be quite the event. Can't wait. Hope to see you all there. When I first heard of Craig's concept, I thought, wow, some one who get's it. The old convention format is dead, some just fail to see that, but here is a guy who really gets it, count us in. Joanne and I are both excited. I know any of you who are lucky enough to attend will agree. One you do not want to miss. Worldclass all the way.

IMX really looks like THE convention not to miss this year. I am very impressed by the innovations that Craig is introducing and am very excited to be attending the IMX. I am also amazed how he has been able to book such outstanding talent and features such great new events at such a bargain registration fee - less than half the fee of many of the big conventions. I will definitely be there in May !!

Just an FYI that a couple of lectures have been added since this PDF was created. So don't use it as your only source for the cuurent schedule. Make sure you check online for the latest changes. For example, OZ has added a 2nd show on Wednesday since this was printed.

See ya there!

Funny you say that, we went to Blackpool with 250 pounds of luggage, sold out at lecture and stand. A good week. We came home with 250 pounds of luggage. I never knew shoes and handbags could weigh that much :) At Eastbourne we had to buy another bag. Don't ask about the wrought iron table she bought. She is good.

IMX GETS EVEN BIGGER!

IMX 2011 gets even bigger as David Kaye joins the IMX All-Star Team!

David Kaye is undoubtedly a kids show master but his principles are universal. Whether working for children or adults, David shares with you a lifetime of secrets to enhance your performance at IMX. Not to be missed!

Richard Kaufman says of David Kaye's work -

"There is no book regarding the performance of magic for adults that is the equal of David Kaye's Seriously Silly. The psychological insight the author has regarding his young audience is staggering. Seriously silly offers lessons in performance and psychology that every performer, whether working for children or adults, can use to greatly enhance their shows. I don't publish many books these days, but I had no choice here: Seriously Silly is the best book ever written on how to perform magic effectively."

30 of magic's finest performers ... 3 days of non-stop magic ... 1 month to go! http://www.imxlasvegas.com

The IPhone App for the event is updated, has all schedules-organized by performer, room, date etc.), special offers from the dealers, dealer room map (so you can see the world class line-up of dealers), convention map, hotel map, and so much more. What an incredible idea. Heck and I don't have an IPhone, but have an ITouch. Take a look, download the IMX App in advance. Craig has done an unbelievable job organizing this, I will say in advance, they will be talking about this one for a long time to come. One of the best thought out events I have had the priveledge to be assosiated with. Still time to join in. http://www.imx2011.com

I have to say this has been the BEST convention I have ever attended. Not only a super lineup but magicians such as Jeff McBride, Johnny Thompson, Kevin James, Amazing Jonathan, Criss Angel, Dan Sperry, Rick Thomas and more, just here hanging out. Not to mention Copperfield and the Berglas interview. This will be hard to top!

Can somebody post a review about the convention?
are there any pictures we can view?
Message: Posted by: Ace of Spades (Jun 6, 2011 01:05PM)
Here is a quick review of MY experience. Everyone goes to conventions for different reasons and we all like different things, so some may disagree with me but here it is...

First of all, the Orleans convention area was great. All the rooms are close together but the whole area is up an escalator away from the hotel/casino. But it is still close to the restaurants. I did not even leave the hotel the first three days.

Dealers Room – There was a good mixture of dealers. It was in a nice big room so there was plenty of space. The negative for me was the short hours. With so much going on at this convention they need longer dealer hours. Plus, even when the room was open some of the dealers seemed to keep their own times. I heard that one dealer said it was one of his best conventions but I also heard others say it was not. The room never seemed overly crowded, but it was always busy when I was in there.

Lectures – The way IMX was set up you had to choose which lectures you wanted to go to because there may be 3 going on at the same time. About a month before the convention we had to sign up online for which lectures we wanted to attend. But once we go to the convention we realized you could go to any of them whether you signed up or not. I think this was for the convention staff to get an idea of which lectures would be full. Anyway, because you had to pick and choose I can only comment on the ones I attended. And most of the performers lectured 2-3 times so someone else may have reviews of the one they attened.

Rudy Coby – This lecture was packed. Even Kevin James (who is good friends with Coby) and Jeff McBride attended. It was a good lecture. It basically followed his lecture notes “How to Become a World Famous Magician” and his key speaking point was the “3 minute rule”. If you have a good act that is original all you need is 3 minutes and you can get booked tomorrow.

Tim Ellis & Sue-Anne Webster – This lecture only had about 10 people in it so it was very informal, which I liked. It was great having a front row seat watching Tim do “Runaround Sue” and he really fooled me with “Perplexity”. Tim and Sue-Anne are two of the nicest people in magic.

Timothy Noonan – More conventions should try to have lectures like Timothy’s. He is a working pro and he spilled the beans on the real work to getting corporate (or any other) gig. He did not teach any tricks but I am convinced if you take what he gave us and apply it then you could work full-time and make good money. He also had a killer deal for the IMX attendees that anyone would have been stupid to pass up.

Silly Billy (David Kaye) – David was a last minute add-on for the convention and I am glad. His lecture was very good if you do any kind of kids’ shows. It’s all about laughs-per-minute and David is killer. I have seen David at a couple of conventions and he was always nice, but he seemed to be having a great time at IMX.

Simon Coronel – I had never heard of Simon before but I was missing out. This guy is SICK. His lecture and performance was one of the highlights of the convention for me.

I also attended the Ponta the Smith and Chris Randall/Chris Bolter lectures. Both were very good but nothing really stood out for me.

Gala Shows – The opening show was on Monday afternoon. Ellis & Webster emceed and did a decent job. I think some of their skits fell flat on the audience though. Chris Capehart was a crowd favorite. He has great interaction with the audience. Boris Wild did a linking ring tribute to Richard Ross and his FISM Kiss act. Both were good but seemed to fall flat. Ivan Pecel, a juggler, stole the show of course. Juliana Chen performed her card manip act which was great; but it went downhill from there. She tried to juggle pillows with her feet and never quite got it right. She ended with an escape from a clear box that took FOREVER to set up, and then was anti-climactic. I felt really bad for her because she is usually world-class.

They had three professional close-up shows. These were held in the large ballroom and they had elevated seating which made it nice, plus video screens. I won’t go over all the acts but some of the highlights were:
- Simon Coronel’s coin work
- Michael Ammar’s perfection on the classics
- Ponta the Smith
- Shoot Ogawa – Every time I see him I am even more amazed. What a talent.
- Richard Sanders is hilarious
- Boris Wild changing his KISS act to a YMCA theme.

Closing Gala Show – David Acer emceed and this man is “pee in your pants” funny. Hayashi performed a samurai act where he cut cucumbers held by a spectator. The spectator was Justin Lee Collins, a British TV personality. Unfortunately, Hayashi meshed up his introduction and they were filming for TV.
Banachek KILLED with his mentalism routine. Lay people were walking away believing it was the real deal…hmmm…maybe….
An Halim performed his award winning card act that you have to see to believe.
Pit Hartling stole the show with his Heinz act. Soooo funny.
Illusionist Jason Bishop closed the show and he had no energy at all. It really ended on a downbeat.

In addition to all the lectures and shows, we had the opportunity to have dinner each night with the performers in the hotel buffet. Very cool to rub elbows with the greats in our art.

The David Berglas interview was good. I wish they could have gone another hour. Very nice of him to stay up till 2 am in England to do this. He was introduced by David Copperfield who we met earlier in the day in dealers room.

And in addition to Copperfield stopping by, some of the other names who dropped by: Jeff McBride, Kevin James, Johnny Thompson, Criss Angel, Amazing Jonathan, Jeff Hobson, Dan Sperry, Mac King, and Rick Thomas.

AND on the last night after the show they had all the performers lines up signing an IMX poster for each attendee. Very cool.

Overall this was a great convention and I hope they do it again next year.
