Topic: Ridiculous T-Shirts Thread

Yesterday, I passed a woman who was wearing a T-Shirt that said:
"I have multiple personalities, and none of them like you."
Message: Posted by: stoneunhinged (Aug 27, 2011 09:45AM)
Are there Magic Café t-shirts?

This one should be posted in the grammar section. I'm sure I know at least one person here who would disagree, though...

I saw one at the mall that said, "It's ok to be ugly, but you're overdoing it."

I have one that says, "Yet, despite the look on my face, you're still taking."

One for the spelling section? I'm sure at least one poster would disagree ;)

:). In my defense, I'm on the stinkin' iPad this morning. Nice catch!
Message: Posted by: stoneunhinged (Aug 27, 2011 10:20AM)
I don't get where the mistake is supposed to be.

"I have multiple personalities, and none of those personalities has any affection for you" is too long for a t-shirt.
Message: Posted by: LobowolfXXX (Aug 27, 2011 10:27AM)
Whether it fIts on a T-shirt or not is irrelevant to its grammatical accuracy, but a much more efficient fix would be to change "like" to "likes."
Message: Posted by: LobowolfXXX (Aug 27, 2011 10:29AM)
Ah, you meant the use of the word "like.". I was referring to the subject/verb agreement error, which perhaps subconsciously, you fixed! (By using "has" instead of "have").
Message: Posted by: landmark (Aug 27, 2011 10:37AM)
Not sure if the mistake was the T-shirt woman's or mine.
Technically, I would go with likes, but like doesn't grate on my ears. I suppose that's because "none of them likes" is logically equivalent to "all of them don't like."
Message: Posted by: stoneunhinged (Aug 27, 2011 10:40AM)
Now I'm confused! I didn't notice the missing "s", but now that you've pointed it out, it simply must be there.

Or maybe not. :)

We've certainly managed to derail this thread, however.

My absolute favorite t-shirt can be found on this website:

http://www.engrish.com/

But it is obscene, so I can't tell what it says or post a picture here at the Café.

:(

It may also be because it's more common nowadays. Not sure if that's true, but it feels true.

I do hope there are Asian websites dedicated to Western tattoos that don't quite get the Asian characters right.

I'd be large amounts of money that there are.

This one was a bumper sticker, not a t-shirt:
"My Dog is Smarter then Your Honor Student."
On a truck parked outside of the languages building at my University.

On a woman: "I'm not with stupid anymore."

I've always liked that "Stop staring at my t*ts..." T-Shirt... :ohyes:

Don't know about websites but I once saw a picture of a big biker with a Chinese tattoo that said "On my period".

I don't know about "tattoos," but didn't Chung Ling Soo (William Robinson) once have a beautiful Asian banner that turned out to be an ad for a funeral parlor?

And I think someone told me the characters on the other side of the "Buddah Production Screen" actually said "Cigarettes Sold Here"!

Perhaps people should not be allowed to use the English language without proper training.

It said "yue jing zhong" which translates to "in the middle of my monthly disease".
I am sure he annoyed the tattoo artist and the guy got back at him with that. Not sure though.

Ha! You have to suspect he wanted something threatening like "in the midst of my rage". that's good.
