Topic: Last minute Christmas bookings
Message: Posted by: Potty the Pirate (Nov 29, 2011 12:34PM)
I can't remember a year when my December diary was so full so early, nor can I remember a year when so many folks were calling at the last minute to book Christmas shows. Today, I've turned down four Christmas party shows, which are all due to take place between now and 18th December.
I think there must be a lot more organisations holding a big ol' Christmas beano this year (apparently this is common in a recession), but I think many of them have left it very late in the day to make a firm decision.
How is it across the Pond?

Perhaps the recession is lifting in some areas, I'm doing a lot of holiday jobs here in suburban Philadelphia.

Ireland is still bankrupt. The phone has been dead. I got a few calls this week, but that is it. Luckily I am heading away for the season to where work is more plentiful.

I'm up about 40% from last year which kind of surprised me a bit. 2 shows came in yesterday for the weekend of the 17/18.
I still have 4 emails to return and waiting on.

not just christmas parties but I noticed for me also a larger number of private parties.

Sam
I gave a lady your phone number yesterday. Did she call you yet?

I'm getting lots of last minute calls for gigs.
I think it's just part of the economy - people don't
want to spend the money, they wait and wait and then
at the last minute decide they have to do something.

We're plumbers dudes. No one thinks of us until
the toilet clogs solid. And then the phone rings.

In that case, everyone in my area must be constipated because my phone is dead.

Its not so much many bookings, but the pay is much better. At least it is for some. There are still bargain last minute shoppers throwing inquries out to everyone on gig masters waiting on the cheapest entertainer. It may come down to they get one no one would hire, sad.
