I know that his CHAMPIONSHIP ACT is followed by the card manipulation portion but on tv, he split it in two. the card act can only be seen in THE ENCOUNTER, a tv special which I have yet to see :(

but my question is, how does lance start his act?

and how does he end it?

just name the sleights or moves, its okay. don't go into so much detail. (a la packet vanish, backpalm prod)

if not is there a clip from THE ENCOUNTER online where I can watch his card manip act? :wavey:

:online:

I would guess that it is the best card manip act since the first portion of his CHAMPIONSHIP ACT is the best dove act ever. ;)

Lance certainly is a great performer no matter what he is p[erforming with. My only question is why do you want to learn his card act step by step and move by move?

Certainly any manipulation student can learn and gain a lot from watching another performers moves and seeing how his act is staged, routined and the movement involved.

However, a student needs to step away from the video tapes of others acts and not dwell too deep with them. The fear is that a student of manipulation becomes so ingrossed with what they are seeing, that they try to mimic the others act too much. This hinders performance and also hinders the art of learning.

The best way to go about it is to watch the act one time. Get enjoyment from it and allow it to inspire you. Then get those cards out, turn the videos off and learn and practice by yourself. It really is the best way to develop your own feel for the moves and to develop your own sense of style.

Doesn't he start with his cane igniting, then a flash from his hand followed by a dove production?

Scot:
Yes that is how his act opens. He walks to center stage, nods to the audience, takes the cig out and lights the cane. The flash travels up the length of the cane where a flash appears and a dove is produced.

Actually, that's for his dove act ;)
it ends with him producing the 4th and last dove from a newspaper.....

all I wanna know is how starts with the cards and how he ends. ;)

I know that in between he does split fans, sunshine cards, and even the thing juliannae chen does - which are not my capabilities, do don't worry I WON'T mimic his act.

I just wanna know how it starts (with the cards) and ends (with the cards)

thanks!

:)

You still have not answered the general question. Why are you so fascinated with having to know how his act starts and finishes? Are you using it to learn from? If so I would suggest the McBride tapes.

Nah.

This is a question of fandom. as I've said, I think the dove act is the best.

I'm just curious as to how he starts it and ends it :bg:

as for the McBride tapes? no prob. I don't have them but I can go to my magician friend's house to watch them anytime....... or I can get that friend to teach me personally. :bg:

so how does it start, and end? (the card manipulation portion) :)

you really don't ahve to worry about me imitating lance. cuz the only sleights I am capable of are backpalm production, thruston's five card vanish, the ken brooke single block production, and the packet vanish, that's it :)

I'm sure there are a LOT that lance does and that I can NOT do.

again, that was a question of.. fandom. hope 'ya can give me an answer. :bg:

You may only have the ability to do those sleights and productions now but if you continue to practise you can do whatever you want. He begins with a fan production from both hands after placing his bird away. He ends with a dove from card fan. But that is only on the DVD. I have seen his show 4 times and although it is basically the same it was not always as I just explained. I does not matter what he does, if you were to steal the cards as he does to begin and finish exactly like he does only a layman would think something of it. Continue to practise throughout the years and learn everything you love. Read, read ,read and eventually you will hit something perfect for you. and it will be better then what Lance does in your hands because it fits your style.

DJ is right in that Lance does tend to mix up his card routine from time to time. I have seen extended versions as well as shortened ones and it constantly changes to his needs.

'ya know in the initial post of this thread, I never said anything about pursuing with a card manip act ;) I just thought I'd ask a question about lance Burton (regardless of whether I do magic or not)..... and thanks for the answer anyways :)
