Rope magic is an area I have yet to delve into. But I really like Chris Ballinger's "Fraid Knot"! It's probably the only rope effect that I use at the moment. I like it cause it can work in almost any situation, be it parlor or close up, and pretty much any audience can enjoy it, whether it's children or adults :)

I have performed rope magic since watching my first rope lecture by George Sands in 1974. After consuming Sands work, I was satisfied with the reaction and built in patter. (I wrote my own rope pamphlet ater seeing sands). I also watched Panama rope routine at his lecture in his shop in Jersey. There is something to be said for watching the originator of an effect. My other two favorites are moves that are part of a routine. John Cornelious had a superb handling of tying a knot, but as he tied it, he was working with "Sands" pieces. This was so effective a fake out, that I admired the visual. Phil Wilmarth tying knots (again first hand lecture), and most recently Tabary's melting a rope knot into itself.
Funny, as much as I love these moves and can perform them, I really like my own work. I crafted my rope effects so as not to touch the mastery of the mentioned routines. Knowledge of those effects kept me from including them in my original work.

Palel's simplifyed walking knot is now my favorite,got great reactions the first time I put it in a show.
