Topic: Using Google to search whole forum: Sticky topic?
Message: Posted by: FrenchDrop (Aug 26, 2012 12:42AM)
What do you think about making a sticky topic here and/or in the tech support forum explaining how to use the Google "site:" option to search the whole Magic Café' at once?

Seems like there's a new post every week or so asking how to search the whole forum (or asking why the "All Forums" option doesn't work). Then someone explains that "All Forums" doesn't work. Then maybe someone explains how to use Google to search the whole board. A sticky topic might answer this Frequently Asked Question before someone posts it again, and cut down on a little bit of the repetition in the two forums where it's Frequently Asked. :D

We can do that however the problem is most members, especially newbie's don't read the stickies. They all seem to know how to post the question in either the manager or tech forum that they tried the search. If they searched either of the those forums for "search" they wouldn't need to ask the question.

Your suggestion would be a good one if members used it.

How about making the search link provide the instructions? Perhaps add a Google search panel as well. This way they would have to see the instructions when the click on the search link.

You know, catch it at the source.
