Topic: Best MENTALISM Book of 2012...
Message: Posted by: David Thiel (Feb 4, 2013 11:03AM)
Luca Volpe just won the Magic Café book of the year...congratualtions, Luca.

At another forum, we were discussing the notion of doing a survey to uncover the very best MENTALISM book of 2012. We had some wonderful offerings over the year. So here are the rules:

1) You can only vote once.
2) You can only vote for one book. (Because I KNOW many will want to recognize more than one book, you may list some HONORABLE MENTIONS...but you may only actually vote for ONE book.)
3) Your vote can be cast for a book OR an eBook.
4) Voting closes at midnight February 11, 2013.

I have my vote all ready -- but I won't cast it until we're well into the voting.

Ready? Set? VOTE!

David

Unreal.

Well for the other poll it was a toss up between Luca's book and Unreal.
I plumped for Luca's
As it was so close I'm going to also go for Unreal as my vote.

No doubts, my vote is for Unreal. It is also a book with an unbeatable quality-price ratio, a true rarity in the mentalism field nowadays.

It unreal things that happen here but I say it to and vote Unreal. It be the good book and it price be it unreal to, No? Bargain and real 2012 winner.

Let's switch it up a bit....while I loved Unreal, "What Lies Inside:" Florian Severin, has some of the most innovative thinking I've come across in recent memory.
True, it was originally released in its original language some years back, but the English edition was released late last year.

As I only visit Penny, Inner and Mentally Speaking.... I didn't even know there WAS a 'book of the year' thread. Next time... PLEASE email me, guys!!!! :)

My vote goes to 'Unreal' ..... fantastic book. Material is, of course, brilliant.... and some of the essays are GOLD.

No - you can only vote for UNREAL - which is what I vote for too BTW :bat:

In that case I vote for Unreal. Either that or Unreal. It's hard to decide.

Either "What Lies Inside" or "Unreal".
I am still undecided yet...

Another vote for "Unreal" (!!!).

Beautiful book, tremendous piece of work and contains ALL of my favorite B.B. pieces from over the years (plus some!).

Unreal gets my vote as well. As I was reading this, I just kept saying to myself "how did this guy ever come up with these ideas". I'm impressed and fascinated by how his mind works. This is a book full of practical working effects by a very talented thinker.
Message: Posted by: DrRob (Feb 5, 2013 12:45PM)
How come I haven't heard about Unreal, can someone point me in the right direction please.

Kind regards
Dr Rob

Because of that I can only vote for what I've read - The Psychic's Little Black Book.
Message: Posted by: Bill Cushman (Feb 5, 2013 01:02PM)
My vote is for Unreal, a true no brainer. Rob, you can find it at: http://www.BruceMBernstein.com

I don't know how many are left but if possible guys let's support by purchasing from Bruce first. He deserves it.
Message: Posted by: ncsteve (Feb 5, 2013 05:25PM)
There may be no choice but buying from him. Penquin is sold out. Is there going to be a 2nd edition printed?

UNREAL...
Message: Posted by: kambiz (Feb 5, 2013 10:32PM)
Considering Luca's book is a mentalism book, this whole thread now makes no sense, and almost becomes a laughter-fest

I want to buy one of the books, either, the best BOOK, or the best MENTALISM book....so this thread is not helping me to part with my cash....

Don't say "buy both", because I only have $100 left in my bank account..so which one?

You guys obviously aren't taking this thread seriously anymore. Let's try to mix it up a bit, shall we, and get some more contenders in the ring.

Right after I place my strong vote for Unreal.

Completely agree.
I'm torn between WLI and Unreal.

Unreal should have a spot next to 13 Steps on the shelf of anyone seriously into mentalism.

What Lies Inside is kind of fresh and different from most mentalism books. For some reason it kind of gave me the same feeling as The Mental Mysteries of Hector Chadwick.

I guess my vote goes to What Lies Inside, only because I had much of Bruce's material already and Florian's book was all new to me. But wait, Unreal is outstanding... and then there's Paul Voodini....

Dammit, here's my top three, you decide.
What Lies Inside
Unreal
Room 237
Honorable mention goes to Anthony Black.
Message: Posted by: Stephen Young (Feb 6, 2013 06:28AM)
@Kambiz

Luca's book, IMHO, goes a little beyond just mentalism. As its title implies it concentrates on connecting with the audience on an emotional level.
So things like crystals and such make an appearance.
I would say Unreal is a straight-up mentalism book.

Of course all mentalism could and should make a conection with the people involved, I just think Luca's book contains things that are added to mentalism to make that emotional conection.

Yikes! This is a close one. WAY too close to call. I'm really hoping I won't need to cast the deciding vote.

Thus far I make the tally:

Unreal: 25 Votes
What Lies Inside: 3 Votes
The Practical Psychic's Little Black Book: 1 Vote

I was pleased to cast the 1st vote for Unreal in the other Book of the Year thread.

I'm happier to cast the 26th vote for Unreal here.

1 vote for Unreal
Message: Posted by: David Thiel (Feb 11, 2013 04:32PM)
Okay...with only a scant eight hours remaining before we find out who YOU voted as the Best Mentalism Book of 2012 -- here's the tally:

Unreal: 28 (the 28th vote is mine)
What Lies Inside: 3
The Practical Psychics Little Black Book: 1

Wait...what's that? I just spoke with my contact at ABC news and they have declared (that with 87.5% of all votes cast in its favor)...UNREAL is THE MENTALISM BOOK OF 2012!!!

Contratulations Bruce, wherever you are! An outstanding book.

On behalf of the 27 people who agree with me: thank you very much.

David

PS: I just wrote to Bruce to tell him about the results. He said:

"I sincerely appreciate the support the Café has given to my work.

I still have copies available and I haven't raised my shipping charges ($8 via priority mail) in the US as yet, although the USPS has raised their fees significantly.

As always, I'm happy to autograph copies, if the buyers so wish.

Much appreciated."

I'm late but my vote would have went to unreal as well. Pure/raw mentalism with no fluff or bs and a fun read.
