There is a new Android App version of "The Web" available on Google Play.

There is information on where to find spiders, cockroaches and the best adhesive for this new and the original effect.
See http://www.mypetboris.com for information and video trailer.

The iPhone version is also ready but Apple have rejected it as not having lasting entertainment value and lacking features. What do you think?

Eric Jones says:
My Pet Boris is amazing! If anyone is reading this, and you haven't already bought it, JUST DO IT! It is well worth it. Priceless! Or if you think you can't get away with the load, YOU'RE WRONG! Nobody feels it, and ANYONE CAN DO THIS! It's awesome

Just downloaded this yesterday. Very well produced and a great value for the money. Lots of options in the settings menu. I love it, too, when magicians/developers give credit where credit and is due, good for you. Running mine on a Samsung Galaxy S2 with no problems. Starting the effect by taking a photo of your guests hand makes it so much more personal. Been practicing and showing to magic friends, I'll be ready soon to perform for real world folks. This is Apple's loss and Android's major gain !!

Just had to post this. Arrived this morning from birdman, 3 spiders, carrying box and some sticky dots. First the spiders are absolutely the best I have found, the carrying box makes it easy to carry around without all the sticky coming off or getting covered in lint. The sticky dot are as good as if not better than the original stuff , all for a really low price, if you use this app or The Web, you cant afford not to ge this.

The App is fantastic and gets a great response, be sure to use it on the right audience :) The package with spiders, roaches and dots is also superb. I believe he will eventually get this on the App store.

Ok..Apple really needs to get their heads out of their butts and approve this. This is simply AMAZING.

I purchased this about 3 weeks ago and found it excellent.
I am running this via android on a Samsung Ace 2 and rate it 90%.
I had a few problems with timing on start-up and the finger animation, I emailed Ian at support@mypetboris.com he said an update was in the pipeline, this duly arrived which addressed some of my timing issues.

I would rate this 100% if:
1 A touch screen to start the animation could be an option.
2 A touch screen to start the finger animation could be an option.
Users of this app will know what I mean, this would remove any timing issues.

I searched within the UK for decent spiders to no avail so have just ordered the Pro Pack from Australia, hurry up postman.

If any users could supply pictures of the spiders / roaches it would be appreciated.

Great video demo and nice update on a classic. Generally, if Apple doesn't accept apps like these as entertainment then I suppose an included a mini-game, in this case like catch the insect and the tricks as a bonus, would pass it.

Apple have finally approved the Magic Spider app. It available on the App Store now.

I have also added a double tap to continue feature which was a great idea.

It will come in the next android update as well.

Thanks for all the kind comments. It is a lot of fun isn't it?

Any demo for the butterly effect?
Message: Posted by: Trekdad (Apr 15, 2013 01:44PM)
For the butterfly in-app purchase, is there anyway to see what the butterflies look like? I have quite a few butterflies from Caterpillar Love and another packet trick and was wondering if they might look close-enough to the app's butterflies or if different enough, where I can obtain the required butterflies.

Hi number1, I ordered the pack from birdman and the service was first class, as for the spiders they are perfect, don't have any pics, sorry, but you wont be disappointed.

Will the Butterfly version of My Pet Boris be available for Android Phones????

It is already for the iPhone.
Message: Posted by: birdman69 (Apr 23, 2013 03:43AM)
@Trekdad: The butterfly is a Monarch Butterfly, so one of the most common and beautiful I think.
@Salby: Yes it will be available for Android. I just had some work on the android camera functionality to tidy up and was waiting to hear any feedback from the iPhone version. I had to include that a little quicker than I would have liked to help get the app approved by Apple. Stay tuned.

@jkr1104: There is a pdf download at the bottom of the instructions page on the website which also includes a page of butterflies you can print yourself with the same butterfly used in the animation.

The idea of the animation was to provide you with the basic tools so you can configure the effect to suit your own style.

It starts with taking a photo of the hand and placing the phone on the spectator's palm, then a caterpillar (monarch) walks across the screen (this can be turned on or off, if it takes too long), transforms into a chrysalis which then develops in time lapse on screen. The chrysalis transforms into a monarch butterfly. You can set whether you want the empty chrysalis to stay on screen. The butterfly flaps it's wings, you can poke it with your finger (like the spider effect) it flies off. A few seconds later it comes back, lands and then flies off again. When the spectator waves over the phone they find the butterfly stuck to the back of their hand.

The empty chrysalis feature can be used to hide a small object placed on the palm before taking the photo so it looks like it transformed into the chrysalis. (see the .pdf for more information)

The script included in the .pdf uses a story of how magicians have always been fascinated by the idea of transformation. There are many effects based on this theme using large illusions but as a close up magician, I have always tried to keep it portable.

I will add a video presentation for the effect to the website soon. If you would like to take a look at the .pdf you can download it from:

You can email me: support@mypetboris.com if you have any questions.

@george1953: Thanks for your kind words.

I have the app on my Iphone and absolutely love performing it. I have been using cockroaches with great success. This is by far one of my favorite apps that I have purchased. One of my favorite part of the routine is whenI you tickle the bug, it truly adds a great dimension to the trick. Additionally, I have been storing my bugs in a small Altoid container where at any given moment, I have 4 bugs ready to go. Get this app, you won't regret it.

Thank you so much for creating this wonderful effect. Any Updates to the ANDROID version of the Butterfly Effect????????????
Message: Posted by: Steve Brooks (May 30, 2013 05:44PM)
As a magician I do not use magic apps too often, but am making an exception here. :)

Ian has brought an old idea up to date and I appreciate the fact that it works perfectly with my iPhone 4S. I have not tried it on my iPad 2, but can see it being easier to work on the phone.
I'll add that the graphics are great and the app works flawlessly from my experience thus far.

I downloaded all three variations (Spider, Cockroach and of course the Butterfly) so I'm ready depending on the crowd, situation, etc (Don't want to kill granny off). ;)
In addition I received Ian's little kit in the mail and would recommend you pick this up as well. The box is small and can be easily carried in your pocket, plus the container holds everything you need.

I'm going to share something for those of you who are considering using the butterfly (I shared this with Ian as well).

While Ian does provide a very nice PDF which contains butterflies you can print out at home, I wanted something a bit better for my own use.

I searched around and found a great source for butterflies. :)
Though they are sold in various combinations with several different butterfly types, they also sell packages with just Monarch's and they are perfect! (See photo of my wife displaying one)

The butterflies are manufactured by a company called Ashland.
You can find them online, but the best source here in California is the arts and crafts store Michaels
A package containing a dozen butterflies will run you less than $10.00 USD. To me, that's a bargain.

The butterflies were originally designed for floral arrangements so have a tiny wire is hooked to them. No worries, a quick clip with some scissors and it's a done deal.
One sticky dot later and you're ready to go! :bwink:

By the way, when you go into Michaels there are two seperate area's where butterflies are displayed. Some are in the floral area, but all the good ones seem to be in the back of the store for some unknown reason. Again, look around and you'll soon find them.

Anyways, a great app at a bargain price - Highly recommended!

Just my two cents. :)

Any updates for the BUTTERFLY Version for ANDROID

Message: Posted by: birdman69 (Jul 1, 2013 04:16AM)
Thanks for the tips on the butterflies from Michaels. I've tried to find them online but no joy as yet. They look like they are made from painted bird feathers with balsa wood bodies. I've found similar ones in craft stores here in Australia but a bulk pack of 12 for $10 is a bargain.

I have just released our own butterflies which I've custom made using a photo of the actual butterfly used in the animation. These butterflies have PVC wings and a black plastic body with fine antenna. The underside is skin tone so it wont flash when you load it and have been made small enough to easily palm 75mmx50mm (3"x2"). The pack comes with a small disk magnet to stick to the back of your phone and a tiny rod magnet and green foil to make the egg used in the effect. There is also a bulk pack for the professional magician with 20 butterflies and 3 sets of magnets/foil. See our website store at http://www.mypetboris.com/store.htm

I'm still working on the Android version of the butterfly effect (for those who are waiting patiently) which I hope will be finished shortly. I am just working on the in-app purchase and also how to deliver the additional content properly.

Cheers Ian

So how many of you perform with the spider. I find the spider too real and scary in it self. I tried this on my girlfriend and she ripped her hand back as soon as the spider appeared on the screen.

@Birdman - AMAZING APP - The only app I have ever paid for and I am glad I did!

I purchased the app yesterday along with the Propack off of your website. I found the large roll of 3D dots on Amazon so I should have plenty of dots for a long time coming.

Trying it out at home:
I found a hard plastic cockroach at home and used some duct tape last night on my wife. (I will wait for your Propack to come in for outside performance) Nonetheless, the load was effortless, she was already nervous with the roach on the screen, and when she waived her hand over the phone she flipped and then laughed for 5 minutes. My kids had the same reaction.

I found the pic below on Google by searching for camera setting screenshot. I have set this as my prefered screen. This allows me to explain what is about to happen without drawing a lot of attention to the phone, as the spectator just thinks I have opened my camera app to take a picture of their hand. This was great on my wife as she was not expecting anything out of the normal to happen as I explained I was merely taking a picture of her hand (which corresponded to what she saw on the screen which was the camera function)

I hope the Propack comes quickly, as I am finding the anticipation building to try this out on some friends and co-workers.

The only disappointment was the butterfly not being part of the Android purchase. However, I understand it has been in the works for the past 6 months, and hopefully will upgraded on my app soon!

If there is one thing I can tell anyone reading this post - BY THIS APP! You will not be disappointed! It's AMAZING and FUN!

Ian, with the new IOS.7 upgrade from Apple, the iPhone screen has a new look.

That said, the graphic you provide of the iPhone screen will no longer fly as it were (the one that shows when the app begins to run but the spectator thinks they see a normal iPhone screen).

Any plans to provide a new updated graphic?

Thanks Ian. :)

Hi Steve,

It is intended that you can create your own startup screens Steve. The one that comes with the app is just an example.
If you are referring to a screen shot of the iphone home screen then you can just take a screenshot of your own home screen and set that as your startup screen.

With iOS you may wish to zoom in a little and take a second screen shot so you don't end up with two status bars at the top.

If you are referring to the screen with AUGMENTED REALITY and the 3D iphone then this is available from our facebook page. You are free to download this graphic and alter it any way you like. Also feel free to send me an suggested graphics and I'll load them onto our facebook page as well.

Cheers Ian

I do not have this as of yet, so I am confused as to what pictures and screens must be patched in order to use the app with iOS7. I probably won't buy now for this reason. However, if the app is ever re-released with the iOS7 graphics already in place, then I will buy. IMHO, asking the buyer to perform the update, if apparently so easy, should obviously be just as easy for the creator to implement. Especially if Steve Brooks says it should be so. For the existing users, the creator's post above seems adequate.

The Butterfly effect is now available as an in-app Purchase within the Magic Spider App for Android. If you haven't already done so, UPDATE your Android app to V 1.7.2 and then you will be able to purchase the butterfly effect. Cost for the Butterfly In-App is $2.99

Butterflies, magnets, foil and adhesive dots are available from our website store: http://www.mypetboris.com/store.htm or your local magic shop.

@Steve: The App works correctly on all versions of iOS from iOS 4.3 and up. Including iOS 7. So not sure what you are referring to unless it is the custom startup screen that you have been using with the picture of the iPhone 4. The screen that comes standard with the app does not have a picture of an iPhone so it should not be out of place. If I'm missing your point please email me at: support@mypetboris.com

Hey. I just purchased the app and I have to say it has become my favorite!!!

I just would like to point out some things that should be considered to improve it. I use a samsung grand prime.

1.There should be a card revelation with the cockroach too. I like the cockroach more than the spider, it's given me great reactions and I would love to have the revelation routine with the cockroach too.

2.The card that you select as a prediction shouldn't appear on the main screen at all.

other than that, the app is amazing and by far the most creative magic app out there. If you haven't tried it, get it and use it once, you'll love the reactions.

Amazon. However, some are heavier than others. Some will not hold a glue dot...etc. I would order from "mypetboris" dot com to get the proper ones.

The spiders can be purchased directly off the app. easiest way to get quality spiders with sticky. this is a great effect. I like to throw it in the middle of iForce, iPredict and Telephoto. It's a good way to lighten things up.

I have a slight problem. I enjpy doing this trick so much that I keep the cockaroach in my wallet along with a adhesive dot. This has caused an ugly bulge in my wallet. I'm considering using a peel off sticker of a cockaroach instead. Anybody have other suggestions?

Www.containerstore.com has the PERFECT container for holding the Spider that you buy for Boris the Magic Spider.

Small Hinged Box
2-3/4" x 2-1/4" x 1/2" h

I love the container store. They have a lot of stuff for magicians, if you want to have the perfect container to hold your prop.
