This was on the big auction site, though the seller (who was a re-seller for the actual owner) did not know anything about the trick. It didn't have an effect name listed I saw the mini-picture among the listings of my magic search, saw the jewel box and thought, "Hmm...." When I clicked and saw the larger picture, I knew what it was.
I made some offers, each progressively higher (this auction had a "Make Offer" component), but after the 3rd try, it wouldn't let me make another. I emailed the seller, letting her know what the item was, and also saying I made some offers (hoping she could somehow allow another - she couldn't). She kindly replied about the owner's reserve price, which was acceptable to me, and she asked me if I wanted it. She cancelled the auction and I received it today.
I have Steve's 1982 lecture DVD, and "Confounding Coffer" is one of the effects. In making the effect up, I had a difficult time finding jewel boxes, and then once I did, needed to cut more of the coin off than I wanted (though the process was a good lesson for me in soldering!). But modifying the padding of the box to my satisfaction didn't really work. I got a decent product, but I knew it had to have been a step down.
Today, I saw one of the reasons for my difficulty - the area in the jewel box which hold the material that holds the coin is square, not a rounded bowl shape as in the jewel boxes a gracious person here at the Café supplied me with. This made it more conducive to being able to use more of the coin. Long story short, Steve knew what he was doing (does he ever not? :) ), and I am one very satisfied customer.
