I'd love to hear how this year's event was and especially would like to see anyone's photos.

I will be having some behind the scenes video clips each day on my blog at:
http://www.learn-ventriloquism.com/news/

The clips will start Wednesday and run through Sunday with morning updates. They won't be long ones - but I'll do what I can between my duties there.

Thanks for doing that, Tom!

I am wondering:
Why doesn't VentHaven videotape some of the workshops and sell them on DVD?
That way VH and the presenters could make a little money, and those of us
who cannot attend will get a chance to see some of what we missed.

For that matter, why doesn't VH have a museum shop?
Posters and other items with images of their more popular figures would probably sell very well.

VentHaven Museum does sell souvenirs - this year a noted photographer did a major project taking portraits of some of the figures. I saw the book tonight and it is incredible. They sell for $75 through the museum and all funds go to the museum. On WorldVents, someone suggested buying them cheaper through Amazon - which you can - and then the museum gets nothing. The photographer will be doing a presentation here, then signing books. I've already reserved mine.

As for lectures being recorded - that is a no-no. Lecturers maintain the rights to their material and most sell lecture notes, some sell DVD's. The museum isn't equipped to sell and split proceeds with others. That would require extra record keeping, dispersement and accounting - which would be more of a headache than what they would generate.

Tomorrow's video will show the set up of the showroom - it is pretty basic because I was extremely busy. Thursday's clip has already been started and will feature a clip with Steve Petra discussing his lecture for Friday. There will be more as time permits.

I can say, Ken Groves and I picked up the Clinton Detweiler coins today and they are incredible! A true tribute to the man and his hall of fame coins.

We are busy going over the logistics of getting 600+ people bussed over to Terry Fator's show at the Taft Theater on Friday night - and getting everyone back. The amount of detail that goes into planning this event is staggering. Mark Wade has an incredibly devoted staff. Gotta sleep - will report back soon.

Too bad! I suppose the Saturday night super show will not be recorded either.
I would really like to see that!

Anyway, if possible, could you video the new puppets and figures that the dealers are selling?
Another video has appeared on YouTube, but the shots are mostly of the backs of people's heads and shoulders.
And most of the camerawork is so jittery that it is difficult to see anything clearly.

A decent video would be nice!

Thanks!

No, they don't record, or allow anyone to record the shows for fear of people stealing material (at least that's what I've been told).
These days, with cell phones that can record, or small pocket recorders, if someone is the type to steal material, they are going to be able to do it without anyone even knowing, so I don't know if it should matter as much any more.

Did you hear about that guy who stole material and the owner took him to court? His lawyer told him his case was hanging by a thread.... oh hang on you don't mean that sort of material do you..

Wow, sounds like a great news. Does that mean the famed Maher Course will be back, along with the certification module?

I just saw the video on Tom's site of the Wades accepting Maher Studios, and Mark mentioned that he's moving to Florida. As a Floridian, I'm quite excited to hear this. Does anyone know what part of Florida he's moving to?

Incredibly appropriate. Mark was born to it. And the beat goes on.

The last convention video will release tomorrow on my Learn-Ventriloquism blog - pretty short as it was a jam-packed day.

Jeff did a great lecture and tipped something we were asked not to share. It is wild! The Saturday night show brought down the house - and Taylor Mason rocked the room.

Two notes - Dave - of course recording matters. We have people policing the room. It is fairy easy to find people recording video of the shows, although I'm not going to explain the way we do it. I had to ask someone to delete video they shot. We can remove people from the conVENTion if they break the rules.

Also - on Maher Studios - the web site is up at: http://maherstudios.com Go sign up for the mailing list so you can be updated as things progress. I won't jump the gun on anything Mark is planning, but I believe everyone will be in for a real treat!

Thanks for the update, Tom. I've happily signed up for the new Maher mailing list.

Yes, you're right, I guess I was thinking it's so much easier for someone to do it these days it would be harder to stop them, but that's no reason to stop trying.

If you want to see what was inside the Dealers Rooms, go to Youtube, then search using "venthaven convention 2013".
There are 2 videos by dirkthevent.

Hi everyone..

My apologies for not being on here sooner..we sold our condo here in central Ohio and are going to central Florida. Since I have dates in the Midwest to finish up, we won't make the move until after August 9. We have bought a place in Barefoot Bay, FL..a community near Vero Beach. I'm tired of fighting the cold and snow in OH (my wife Jody is from upstate NY..so she REALLYknows snow!).

My reason for not posting is that we are living out of suitcases and boxes while we stay with my aunt. She is wonderful to let us stay..but my computer, printer et all is in storage until the move. It's harder to do this on an iPad.

For the record, I want to slow down on traveling to do shows (although I won't quit..I love it too much)...and I will continue to run as Executive Director, the Vent Haven ConVENTions. But I am REALLY EXCITED to now be in charge of Maher Studios, along with Jody and with help from buddies Ken Groves and Tom Crowl. We are updating and reintroducing the Maher Course plus some new products. Tom posted to give you the address to take a look at a few of the things we will offer.

I'll keep you all posted...until then wish us good luck. Maher lives!,!!!!!

Hi Mark,

That's great (not that you're living out of boxes - we just moved this summer as well, so I know how that is) that you'll be living only about 3 hours away from me. I live in the Ft. Lauderdale area. Perhaps one day we could do coffee! :coffee: ;)
