Topic: Rick Haslett At A House Of Fire Thumbs Up!

I just wanted to tell everyone here that Rick Haslett at http://www.ahouseoffire.com is a stand up guy with excellent products and customer service. I recently made a purchase from him and had a minor concern, so I emailed him. Rick responded to my email within 1 hour. He was very understanding and more than accomodating. He treated this matter as if I had spent thousands of dollars on my order. Just an all out nice guy who stands behind his products all the way.

It's so refreshing to be able to buy QUALITY magic made in the U.S.A. by someone who truly appreciates your business and is willing to be just as helpful after the sale. Not to mention he has some really unique products too!

Really? My experience with Rick Haslett is totally the opposite. I had ordered a set of Fire Palms from him earlier this year and yes, he was very helpful and his service was top-notch.

Just today when I emailed him to get more details about a few products which had the same effect in the videos, I only got some simple canned response as if I was talking to a computer program. Here's the entire exchange word for word:

Hi Rick,

I have a few questions:

1. What's the difference between the following products which seems to give the same effect:
- Fire Starter
- Wanna Flash
- Flashpaper's Delight
- Flash It

2. Does your "free shipping" promotion applies to international orders as well?

Rick: Hi Alex. Thanks..... Every one is different...watch vids again...you'll see what I mean...keep up the good work..... The best...

Hi Rick,

I'm a magician so I need to know more specific details as to the size of the gimmick, how you bring them into play, how easily are they concealed and how you ditch them. As far as I can tell, Fire Starter seems to be a thumb tip gimmick. I'm not sure about the rest.

You also didn't answer my second question- is it free shipping also for international orders?

Rick: sorry charlie...the best tuna's starkist

If this is your only response to a customer's legitimate questions regarding your products and service, you can take your business elsewhere.

I had hoped for better service from you since I was very pleased with the way you answered my questions and the high quality of the set of Fire Palms which I received from you earlier this year.

Rick: OK....Thanks

Notice that he never answered my second question regarding the free shipping promotion. He also used the "best tuna's starkist" phrase which is a cultural saying that is beyond me in Malaysia. I only found out what it meant after googling it.

I just wonder why his level of service has gone down the drain now when it was so good last time.

I can only speak from my personal experience, which in my case was excellent. I do have an OPINION as to the "Sorry Charlie" remark. I know of dozens of magic effect creators that were once very open to answer any and ALL questions about their products, only to have their ideas and designs copied by giving out too much information. Perhaps this is what he was thinking when you asked for SPECIFIC details of sizes of not just one, but SEVERAL gimmicks. Maybe he thought you were "fishing" for design details. Again, I don't know for certain if this was the case. It's merely my opinion.

With all of the blatant rip offs and knock offs in magic these days, I don't fault any creator for being a little suspicious.
