Topic: Your thoughts on a new idea

I have been thinking that there must be some good use for the plastic screw on caps for soda and water bottles. I noticed that a quarter fits perfectly in one. The soda caps hold around six quarters.

Here are a few ideas I thougth of, some that I have presented and some that need a bit more fleshing out:

1. Have two caps, one regular and one gimmicked. The gimmicked cap would have a slit on the side, toward the bottom. You could put six quarters in it and dump out five, put in five and dump out four, etc. You then switch it for the regular cap and hand it out. I haven't tried this one yet.

2. If you had something that seems natural and fitting that could be used as a lid, then you have an impromptu okito box. I tried making an impromptu lid from my business card. It worked pretty well since it is stiff enough. I simply put the cap on the business card, cut a circle around it using my keychain scissors, and folded the overlapping edges over the cap. I did this with someone who asked me to do something magical.

3. With several caps, you could do a matrix effect. I have done this at parties where there are a bunch of empty water or beer bottles and caps lying around.

I would love to hear ideas.

Thanks,

KJ

Effect. Place empty lid on your hand close fist, open it, a coin appears on the inside...you say another x of these and I can buy a drink....(Gregory Wilson does this, more or less, and you don't need a gimmicked lid)

I have seen them being used for the 3 shell game.

Rattled, I think was the name of a gimmick that used caps? I remember it being really cool.

Anyone remember the Bob Kohler disaster, Killer Red Caps?

Great ideas so far. Here is a list of ideas:

1. Coin vanishing from gimmicked cap
2. Impromptu Okito box (I've been practicing a version using my fingers as a lid)
3. Matrix
4. 3 shell game
5. Coin production (Using pointer finger palm display)
6. Rattled (An impromptu version comes to mind)
7. Two in the hand, one in the pocket

I'm wondering if there is a variation of the two corks trick that Doc Eason does that might work with bottle caps.

You can do a coin in bottle using a nickel, another nickel, and a bottle with cap. Put on nickel in the cap and screw the bottle into the cap wedging the nickel between the cap and the lip of the bottle. Screw it on really tight. When ready to perform, loosen the cap a little, do your favorite vanish, smash the now empty hand against the bottom of the bottle and the nickel inside will dislodge and rattle around in the bottle giving the illusion that it penetrated. Experiment around some to find out how to hold the bottle so that the nickel doesn't dislodge prematurely. I can't take credit for this since I saw it in a magazine several years ago. I can' remember which one or who wrote it up however.

I think rattled is one of the best cap tricks out there. There are so many things that you can do with it. You could probably make something like this using a different concept. My idea is to cut a business card the same diameter of the inside of the cap, put a washer inside the cap, and the business card circle on top of that. You would have a cap that makes noise, but seems to have nothing in it.

Caps are already used for 3 shell game and matrix. I also know I've seen coins come and go from caps in a way similar to what you describe, but I couldn't tell you where. YouTube, I imagine.
