Topic: Penguin Live Mentalist Dream List
Message: Posted by: MatthewSims (Jul 23, 2015 06:05PM)
Pardon the horrible title of this thread, but you get the idea.

What mentalists would you like to see at Penguin Live that hasn't lectured yet?

For me, the top 3 (in no particular order) would be Barrie Richardson, Bruce Bernstein, and Banachek. All B's!!!

Best,
Matthew

Bruce berstein
robert e. neale (ok, he's not quite a mentalist - but he certainly knows about meaning and metaphor in what we do)
doc shiels
Hellstrom
Harry Lorayne for his memory work and some card techniques

Oh wait! That's August 5th at the P3 studio in Columbus, Ohio according to Eventbrite.
Already got my seat reserved.

If you are near the Columbus area on Aug 5th you may want to grab your seat now as these seats are filling up fast and the announcement just came out a couple of hours ago.

My Dream list is kind of long, cause there are many great mentalists that have not lectured for Penguin...and of course many great ones that have, which I am thankful for...

My list in no particular order:

Gerry McCambridge
Banachek
Chuck Hickok
Craig Karges
Christopher Carter
Doug Dyment
Eric Samuels

I would definitely like to see Robert Neale and Harry Lorayne.

I would love a lecture on just the power and magic of metaphors. Possibly a multiple panel discussion with Eugene, Jeff Mccbride, Dr. Larry Hass, and Robert Neale. It would be nice to know their differences and similarities.

Dr. Todd Landman is someone else I would love to see. People who know the power of a good presentation or good story.

I would echo a lot of the names that have already been mentioned. Three that I would like to see that haven't been named yet share the same last name (almost!):

[*] Michael Weber

I think it's very interesting that so many "classic mentalists" are being suggested as opposed to the the newer breed that has seem to dominate things around here as well as the Penguin series.

Here's my suggestions..

Michael Weber (mentalism only)
Ross Johnson
Banachek
Jon Riggs
Greg Arce
Craig Karges
Christopher Carter
Eric Samuels
Bruce Bernstein
Jon Stetson
Lee Earle
Christian & Katalina
Ted K. (all new second lecture)
Message: Posted by: actorcoop (Jul 23, 2015 10:41PM)
Top 3:
Banachek
Richard Webster
Fraser Parker

And honestly, I would even watch another 16 hour Osterlind lecture..

Another vote for Stephen Long (Hector Chadwick). I watched his presentation on equivoque at Vanishing Inc. Magic and enjoyed it.
Message: Posted by: minty (Jul 23, 2015 11:42PM)
Hector Chadwick would be top of my list. Great creative thinker, but also (importantly) a brilliant lecturer.

Rick Maue would also be great. I love his original version of Group Dynamics but gather he's since developed the routine quite a bit. I'd love to hear him talk through the changes. I'd also love him to cover some Haunted Magick.

I doubt he's super popular in the mainstream but Bill Dekel is one of my favorites. He shares my affinity for as real as it gets mentalism and he can turn a simple revelation into a full routine. I would love to see what he would do in a penguin lecture.

Dr Van Van Mojo-

Doctor Crow, who is not permitted to post here, asked me to tell you that he's very peeved that you cut him from the list. On the other hand, it's probably just as well that he doesn't do a Penguin lecture as he has a tendency to be off-color and occasionally offensive to people of normal sensibilities.

- John Riggs, especially if he covered some of his older stuff!

- Dr Todd... Come on, the Academic Magician! Big concepts, and beautiful little moments of magic!

Also, I'd love to see more combined lectures in the style of the Cassidy and Osterlind combined lecture.
Not me, that was a disaster and infuriating to watch. In theory it seemed like a great idea, but in practice, people get in the way.

I agree. The outcome is rarely what you would expect. No thanks.

The Osterlind/Cassidy lecture was bad.
Bob, may he rest in peace, wanted all the attention for himself.
I felt bad for Richard at times. It seemed he just wanted to be some place else.

I have always wanted to see Banachek do a penguin event.
My dream will come true in a few days.

Seems like there has been a dip in penguin mentalism lectures lately. Perhaps they need some inspiration ;)

Banachek just recorded one, and should be coming out soon! :D

I'd also watch Michael Weber, Stephen Long (Hector Chadwick), Gary Kurtz, and many of those already mentioned- but I don't think they'll be up for it in the near future (don't mind to be proven wrong!).

A few other in my wishlist would be:
Asi Wind
Michael Murray
Ben Blau (hey Ben, what happened with that rumor? ;) )
Myke Phillips
Mark Chandaue

I don't really know any of them personally, so I might be wrong about their desire to do a lecture- but it's worth a shot!
Thanks for the mention and I'd be happy to do one, maybe after Harpacrown 2 is released I might get on their radar.

Mark

Now, as Banachek has made it to the live lecture my "dreamlist" got a little shorter... Rick Maue and Michael Murray would be ace.
Message: Posted by: snm (May 19, 2017 08:16PM)
Richard Webster
Message: Posted by: Max Wells (May 19, 2017 08:29PM)
I don't understand why they haven't get Michael Weber to do a Penguin lecture.

I've seen him quite a few times hosting the lectures so I'm guessing is a more of a thing of money rather than of time...

Just kidding. He probably just doesn't want to teach us mortals his secrets.

My votes would be for:

Paul Vigil
Michael Weber
Richard Webster

Paul seems to be laying low as of recently after being exposed to the community. Is he out of the business now, did it ruin him? Everything is gone of his.

Michael Weber
Joe Diamond
Christian Cagigal
Message: Posted by: clairvoyant (Jul 17, 2017 10:56AM)
Jon Stetson
Christopher Carter
Craig Karges
Pheton Bilek
Gerry Henessey
Rick Maue

Oh...and Andy "Jerxman" ;)

A Paul Stockman one would be good I really liked his DVD lecture. Very clean simple and usable material no silly pipe dreams.

I see. That's not strange at all. His lecture with Alakazam was great though.

How about Teller? I've seen him speak before and he's excellent.
Message: Posted by: Mindpro (Jul 26, 2017 01:57PM)
I too love talking to Teller, but he (they) typically isn't too supportive or favorable of mentalists
Message: Posted by: Rob_magician (Jul 26, 2017 02:54PM)
Definitely Michael Murray!

Now that Banachek have lectured, my dream list of authors who haven't lectured yet would be: Doug Dyment, Jerome Finley, Richard Webster. By "dream" I mean something I would really want to see but I'm afraid I won't (I'm glad Banachek came out of the dream part and came to reality!).

Great authors that I would love to see and I don't think is a dream (meaning, I believe it's quite possible they lecture) would be Ben Blau, Michael Murray, Paul Vigil.

Rick Maue - the more I read of his material, and see of his (few) performances, the more my admiration grows for his ingenuity, artistry and integrity. Just brilliant.
...and Michael Murray (amazing thinker/creator), Michael Weber and Scott Creasey.

And Marc Paul - again!

Very best,
Francis

Although after watching his 4 and 1/2 hour lecture, I would still want to see Banachek do another one!!!

Christopher Carter would be awesome.

Although he already did one lecture for Penguin, I always enjoy Max Mavens effects and his thinking behind them.
