If you had to give a talk/lecture on the history of magic and you had only five to ten minutes, what would you cover?

People used to care that leaders could explain and predict stuff

now we just want to be entertained

and also don't need to persecute enterainers like Reginald Scot argued in 1540.

and today we just put on top hats and wave wands and people can believe we are harmless.
