Topic: Review Request Metamorphosis XL by Wayne Dobson
Message: Posted by: warren (Mar 7, 2017 05:45PM)
Hi I'm looking for a review from anyone who has Metamorphosis XL by Wayne Dobson regards quality etc as when I looked in the search the only thing I really found was the original Metamorphosis.

I presume its exactly the same effect and method as the original Metamorphosis and its just bigger hence the letters XL but I was wondering if it made any difference to the handling and are the bigger coins of a good quality ?

Thanks for your time

Thanks for the reply....Yes that's the effect but I'm looking for a review not a demo, have you actually got this and if so what are your thoughts ?

I have this and it has gone straight into my walkaround set. It takes the place of a Chinatown Half routine that I did many years ago (note that this set does not use the Chinatown Half principle).

You get a nice real leather wallet, a Morgan Dollar (replica) and a faux Chinese coin. The Morgan replica is good quality but would not pass as an original. The Chinese coin is a brass holed disk with the design printed on. You also get the necessary extras. The coins look nice enough and, for the reduced price being offered by Alakazam, this is very good value for money.

The coins and extra gimmicks work very well, both coins can be examined at the start and end of the routine, and the reset is instant and automatic.

The routine plays well and is very easy to do.

I'd give it 8/10 (it would be 10/10 if it came with a real Morgan and better quality Chinese coin, but this would obviously cost many times more).

Any sound issues when the metamorphosis happens?

I'm guessing not, but wanted to check.

There appears to be a little bit of a sound issue when removing the coin which could probably be fixed, but I guess that's explained away just since it's two coins and could hit each other as you try to take one out.

I haven't found sound to be a problem.

This is what I hate about trailers. The official trailer (not the one above) doesn't show the wallet being placed on top of the coin to make the metamorphosis happen. You are left with the impression that the change happens all by itself which of course is totally bogus. This is just another version of Lethal Tender. I will never buy a trick from a marketing trailer unless they show it from beginning to end without any cutouts or other camera tricks.

Ok, even on the trailer the coins don't look that good ( the Morgan looks like a slug ) I know there's a price point issue but when you've worked with the the real thing..........
Anf I agree with krowboom,, give me a start to finish trailer. This may be magicians think but I suspect this would have to be a one on one with good eye contact or the wallet swipe is going to raise questions??

Since my original post I did manage to pick this up at a great price on EBay however it wasn't really for me.

This was due to a couple of things number one being the fake coins as others have said it should have used a real Morgan at least, Secondly it seemed more like an effect to be used one on one or maybe for just a couple of people, finally I prefer coin effects to have more than one phase.

Having said all of that what I did receive was well made and the instructional download taught everything that you needed in order to perform the effect.
