Topic: Volition Blue Chip by Joel Dickinson
Message: Posted by: Laughing (Jul 19, 2019 04:26AM)
I have just watched the trailer for this effect https://www.tadaa.co.uk/ourshop/prod_6728024-Volition-Blue-Chip.html and I was wondering if anyone has this effect yet and could provide a review of the product.

Ad blurb:
Volition Blue Chip is a close up master-piece and it fits in just one pocket.

'Taking Joel Dickinson's Volition to a new level.' - Dean Williamson, Mentalist.

Inside a closed bag sit three poker chips, a participant attempts to decipher the colour of the poker chips inside. Once the chips are removed your participant and spectators are astonished they are correct.

The magician then explains to the participant that each poker chip has a location and the participant now decides which poker chip will go where. Astoundingly your participants actions where predicted ahead of time on the actual poker chips.

To top it off, the poker chips contains a hidden prediction which brings Volition Blue Chip full circle Proving everybody can be maniuplated, to the extreme.

No equivocation and no unusual procedures!

Extremely easy to perform with a high impact!

Volition Blue Chip can pack a punch in under a minute or perform a hard hitting five minute routine guaranteed to floor your audience.

Sounds good man, love playing with mentalism. So will look into this :)

As a big fan of the original routine (seriously...big fan), Iím afraid this feels like gilding the lily a bit.

Poker chips from a ďcasinoĒ that are printed with Right Hand, Left Hand, and Pocket?!? Youíre joking...

Hard pass from me. But, I wish Joel and everyone who picks this up the best of luck with the release. Prove me wrong.

The original routine just uses business cards, so it doesn't appear "magicky," but this new release does.

That's fine for many performers and situations, but I feel the strength of the original routine lies in the ordinary nature of the cards. They don't look like props, but the chips do. And why the special little bag?

So yes, some "gilding" going on here. The original routine is fantastic -- and it fits in your everyday wallet.

Totally agree with this.
Especially agree with being able to carry in your wallet.
Personally, I see no need for this product. It even contradicts some of the advantages stated in the original Volition (such as using common business cards, etc.)

To be honest, when I first saw this I got it confused with Joel's other effect "Voyager" and thought that that might be a cool idea...to use a generic token coin such as a chip rather than a coin from a particular country. It could make it more "universal".
So I was surprised and a bit disappointed to realize it was a new version of Volition. But to each their own.

Hi all,

I thought I'd just chime in and as always I respect your opinions.

There is no lilly being gilded, Volition Blue Chip is a COMPLETELY different routine to my original Volition.
Not only is the routine different but so is the handling. Within Volition Blue Chip a participant identifies the colour of the chips and it builds from there...

Volition Blue Chip and Volition are both routines that I actually perform.
My material is always strong because I have a reputation to protect in the real working world of magic.

Jerdunn, you mentioned why a bag. Well, the bag is a solid black bag and the participant attempts to fathom the colour of the poker chips so it beats wrapping them in clingfilm, surely :-)

Best wishes all,

Joel

Then perhaps giving this a more different name would have avoided some confusion.

Is it improper to say "more different"?
How about different-er? Or maybe I should have gone with mo' different?
Well, I think you get my drift. :)

If one decided to bite on this new version, could one figure out the more "innocent" previous effect and use that as well or are they completely different in every way?
Thanks.

I think there is merit in both and each lends itself to a totally different kind of performance. What I love about bluechip is, there is a real sense of impossibility with the permanent nature of the prediction. There is no way for example, those chips could be switched or changed because they're uniquely made that way. Equally, in a performance about cheating at poker, along side a poker demonstration, 10 card poker deal or anything else, I think it has its unique place. Equally, it is a testament to Joel that people feel as though the first incarnation of this was so good, it could not be improved. I love the organic nature of the original but I also love the routine possibilities with bluechip. I think both are fantastic and I look forward to routining bluechip in my close up performances! :D

I saw $45 for a couple of poker chips and split! Prices are getting crazy but they (the magic company producers) get away with it because people will buy up anything to have the latest tricks.. They will keep raising prices until finally everyone has had enough-i'm already there.

With the greatest of respect you get a lot more than just a couple of poker chips.

You really have no idea what you get.

I honestly think some here just like to jump on the bandwagon when the opportunity presents itself to disparage a product etc.

Joel's a good guy I hardly think he's out to rip anyone off. I will be picking this up, I like poker chips.

I've also been a fan of volition.

I hope the creators keep offering cool stuff. I'll pay for what I like and find interesting. I won't pay for what I don't like.

We all make choices. Both the producers and the buyers.

I might have gotten lost in the shuffle. I think this looks great and I definitely could see a use for both blue Chip and the highly regarded original (v2). Would blue Chip alone give me what I need to prepare a more "organic" business card-based effect (v2) in addition to the provided necessaries?

Also, any US supplier yet?

Thanks!

Poker chips is great as a prop. Itís not cards, itís not coins. Chips are unexpected yet recognisable to the audience. Whenever I see a release with poker chips I make sure to research it well.
As for the routine itís only up to the individual performer to see if it fits their style and charachter.

Iím still on the fence but not because of the props - thatís what got me interested!
Message: Posted by: Daren (Jul 20, 2019 03:15AM)
I absolutely love this I have seen the tutorial and canít wait to try this out, my mind is spinning with different presentation ideas and have given Joel an idea for the ending which I think will really hit them hard! I do believe there is a lot of overthinking going on here and I say just perform it and try it and you will see the reactions this will generate!! The effect does pack small but definitely plays huge!! I love it!
Message: Posted by: Khuluma (Jul 20, 2019 06:33AM)
I am with Lundonia on this one. I think chips are tactile and visual, so it's a different experience to only ruddy business cards. I know because I'm a mentalist and use cards at every gig 😄 Anyone got this and used it in the real world?
Message: Posted by: Laughing (Jul 20, 2019 07:50AM)
I have never seen the original volition, I am pretty new to magic. I love the idea of this effect, coming at it completely unfamiliar with the v1 effect.

I am wondering Joel how difficult the handling is for this effect. I do no coin magic other than the odd vanish on an offbeat so handling the chips if I have to do anything more than a retention vanish or a false transfer then I may struggle with this.

So Joel is the effect easy to do for a non coin guy? The trailer is heavily edited so I could not tell.

Thanks

Loved the original, interested to see what extra this has to offer :)

Volition Blue Chip Review By Daniel Chard

I got this awesome trick from Joel. I dabble with mentalism and Iím always on the lookout for effects that pack small and kill!

Effect: Inside a closed bag sit three poker chips, a participant attempts to decipher the colour of the poker chips inside.

Props: The quality of the props is very good. Chips that been professionally designed, draw string back and added bonus item, which was a nice surprise.

Method: You receive a 24 minute download which covers everything you need. Joel goes into detail about everything you need to perform the effect. Youíll just have to run through the mechanics a few times, so you can perform it with instant reset. Reset would only take a few seconds max, which is a great plus for any working piece.

As the ad copy states, you can perform this quick and have lots of beats of magic, or take your time. Iíve settled somewhere in the middle, as it suits my style best :)

The method is very easy and the only real ďsleightĒ happens during a such a large off beat, it wonít be noticed.

I could see this playing well stand up as well as close up. And you can apply lots of different presentations to this effect.

Final thoughts: I performed this at the magic bar last night between 8-10 times, and every single time it never failed to get a very good reaction from my spectators. A few F bombs. It went wrong once or twice, but that was purely down to me not paying attention.

But the modular nature of this makes it perfect for my purposes and with so much magic in a short space of time, this is an absolute no brainer. Iíll be performing this a lot more and I canít wait to see how it grows over time. Itís not a card trick either, but there is an added card based kicker you can use with a revelation built into the props. Super subtle, but the time delay between the card being taken and revealed is perfect.

This a very good value for money effect, if youíre in the fence with this... donít be! Buy it today :)

Hi Starmanager,

Firstly please accept my apology for the stock level. This is totally our fault. someone inputted the stock ordered believing it had arrived, human error but we have now corrected it. Joel is getting a new batch made as we speak and the expected delivery is 17th of this month.

Secondly as for the download, no code is needed. The moment you purchase either a streaming video, a download or academy course from Alakazam magic it is delivered to your Alakazam account (this should have been stated on your emailed invoice). So if it is the Joel Dickinson Academy course you are referring to, that will be waiting for you in the Academy Live section of your Alakazam account. Please take a look at this short How To video https://www.alakazam.co.uk/how-to-access-the-alakazam-academy-.html

Our aim is to answer all emails the same day but obviously if your issue is super urgent we are available by phone or our live chat feature. Both of these will get you instant help and advice.

Alakazam is not a one man band and we do have an actual shop so we are always here and happy to help during shop hours and to be honest usually way past shop hours as I tend to man the live chat service until around 9pm every evening (where possible)

If you have any issues with accessing your video please let me know I will be only too happy to help!

Sincerely

Peter Nardi

It would be so much easier if all videos came into one area on your site. Checking three places is hard and instant video (in my pea brain mind) should show up in the category in my account called . . . wait for it . . . INSTANT VIDEOS . . . A bromance is happening before our very eyes?

And like a lot of relationships StarManager publically wanted out only a few post ago.

I NEVER wanted OUT! I was disappointed on ordering an in stock item and being told it was now out of stock. And not being able to access an instant download. Peter fixed all and was honorable and gracious. That said, my wife agrees with Sean Mann and Doric! But my offer stands for Peter!

I just Love this effect from Joel. The method is ingenious and fooled me bad. The best inexpensive Poker chip Prop available to perform multiple reveals, without the need for very expensive electronic chips in the market.

A friend showed me this and I ordered straight away as it will suit me down to the ground. Just waiting for it to arrive from Joel. 13 days and counting.

I use Volition in my role as wedding toastmaster / MC. I encourage couples to hire a magician for their reception and sometimes they do. If not, I usually do some strolling easy to carry magic with elastics, sponge balls and business cards. Volition works well and I can tailor it to my situation. Ladies often donít have Ďpocketsí so Iíll use Ďtable topí or Ďbar topí. I like the look of poker chip version but that wouldnít work for me. Would eVolition work? Is it worth considering?

I havenít got the new e-volition but by the pure nature of the business cards, it should work better then the chips in your situation.
