I was thinking the exact same thing. Though I fully expect you to post in another day or so "I got bored and ordered..." which is my plight as well.

I was one of the lucky beta testers of this item.

It is by far my favorite switch board Iíve ever seen. Itís genius, simple, versatile, and durable. Itís everything you could ask for out of a switch board routine.

HIGHLY recommended. You wonít be disappointed. I promise.

Hehe, don't want to push, but now we are only "reserving" the units, for just 1 EURO. You can change your mind later, but I hope you don't :P
We are making a very good product, so I hope you are really using it. If you are going to put it in a shelve or drawer, then don't buy! Leave room for magicians that will use it

Thanks for the reminder Madds. I couldnít remember if this was the same product and whom was reviewing it. It seems that more features have been added.

Martin,
First I would like to say what a fantastic and well presented looking prop this is :-)
Now, as the first set was limited to 50 units and they sold out in 24 hours and hopefully ship mid-December. If anyone has dropped into the second 50 batch will they have to wait till the end of March for the second batch?
I only ask as I have ordered on Tuesday and was curious which group of 50 I would be in?
Thanks.

I love this effect and will probably build my own one day. I think $210+ is very high for a design that has been around for decades with open source code. I think the kit should have been around $35. I bet some of the original owners will not be happy of a copycat.

I personally do not think this is better then the original. The original had much cooler looking buttons and a better bulbs. It was on a plain piece of wood. The circuit board screams not magic but technology. Average person does not know the IC is hidden or missing.

Improvements on the idea was clear plexi board. This showed nothing was hiding.

No one is going to believe this is magic. It needs a complete redesign without showing the PCB.

But that's my opinion.

Yes, sold out! 100 units sold in 48hs. Very happy to see the feedback and interest!
We will try to start shipping mid December, if factory can provide, maybe we can have both batches at the same time.
But don't want to promise, because this product has so many different accessories from different providers, and we wont be able to ship until we receive them all.
Because of covid and xmas season shipping companies are having delays.
We started production almost 2 months ago. Hope we have everything on time!

Thanks Tom!
There are many versions available. Of course you may like other more than this one.
Still this have several improvements over all others. Have new effects that none of the others can do. You can also make your own routine choosing which effects to do. You can choose from 7 different.
You can have 5 routines in the same board. It has a very nice final prediction.
Believe me this can not be made for $35. The board is so special that can not be manufactures with standard procedures.
Also the code, which we will release under open source, is very valuable. It took months of programming. Releasing it will allow anyone to improve or implement their changes.
When you pay for a product you don't only pay for the cost of the material, but also for the work behind.
210 EUR price is not enough for 5 years of R&D, 160 circuits boards made for prototyping, 8 different version before final release.
But its a personal project. Sometimes you invest much more, just because you like what you are doing.
Im sure that most of the supporters will see the high quality, so much details and great love the product has.

Yeah! Two editions sold out in 48 hours! :righton:

We opened reservation for 3ļ batch.
The discount was supposed to be available only until reservations were sold out.
As we know many magicians didn't even have time to reserve their own, we wanted to open the new reservation still with some discount. This time the discount is 31Ä, so the price will be 179Ä.
If this reservation are sold out, remember the price will be 210Ä.
This is the new link to reserve 3ļ batch:

5 years? 160 boards? I guess it was a fun, learning experience.

I am not sure what R and D you had, this magic trick is 40 years old, and many open source projects showing how to build your own.

I would never use a PCB over colored wires when showing a simple circuit. The convincer is showing the simple circuit with no special electronics.

For those looking for DIY here are free files.

It was fun sometimes, and very frustrating many others.
Production is very complex. Factory had to design a completely different new process only for our boards. Before that we tested several other production methods which didn't work.
If you want to do the same as 40 years ago, then most other versions will suffice. But if you want to build your routine, the length you want, and choosing from 7 different possible effects, then our version is unique. Many many improvement were made, and you will not have enough time in your life to test all possibilities.
Building your routine offers you:
-- two hundred eighty-one trillion four hundred seventy-four billion nine hundred eighty million -- different possible routines. And I bet you didn't even read the whole number.

This is up to you, there are many that will prefer the "old" wooden version with wires because of the appearance, many others will feel our plain circuit board don't have anything to hide anywhere. And that is a fooler by itself.
Ours have the "wires" visible, but they are called "tracks". So even with no electronic knowledge you will easily understand how it works.

If you want to build your own, then just buy an Arduino and learn to program. You can do your own, from scratch or start from one like the one you showed.
Even you can use our code in your own build and get all the cool features we have, as Switch Board is open source.
Still you have to understand the basic of electronics and programming, but no big deal :goof:
Message: Posted by: ArtIn (Nov 27, 2020 07:54AM)
How do you switch between routines? Can you connect the board somehow to a computer?
Or can you switch them on the fly?
Message: Posted by: Martin Andersen (Nov 27, 2020 08:06AM)
You can switch the routines on the fly. Perform one routine, finish, and the next second do a different one... or the same... 5 routines to choose!
Message: Posted by: geordiediver (Nov 27, 2020 10:12AM)
Martin,
Just to clarify what ever price you get this for we have to add 21% on, as all the prices on the site are NOT inclusive of tax?

I do quite a bit of Arduino programming as well as C++ is there an interface so I can plug this into my laptop?

Thank you.
Message: Posted by: Martin Andersen (Nov 27, 2020 01:11PM)
The price is final. Only the reservation has to add tax if applicable.

There is no interface to connect to a computer. You would have to use some alligator clips grabbed to the bulb holders in order to change programming, and use your own programmer or an "Arduino as programmer".
Of course this is ONLY if you want to make your own special code or modify the existing.
To use ALL features of Switch Board this is not needed in any case. No one freak out!

Thanks Martin,
That's good news there is no tax to add to the final amount for the switch board :-)
No freaking out either, the ability to talk to the device is a bonus for me and maybe some others but the fact that it is not necessary will appeal to more on here I think :-)

Thank you.

Is this a bad joke ? Regular price will be 210 Euro in cluding VAT & Shipping
A reserved trick will end up being "more expensive" than a normal order later ?
179,00 Ä + 21% VAT = 216,59 Ä + 1,73 Ä Reservation = 218,32 Ä for EU buyers

Not usually my type of magic, but I'm a gadget freak and magician, so I've reserved one of these (well, I hope I'm among the next 3rd batch!!!). I will look forward to performing this trick (effect, puzzle???). I already knew about the magic switchboard and the various websites showing how to make it, trust me guys it is not as easy as you think, and the programming, Ouch! I got better things to do with my time so I'm happy to pay for one of these lovely looking props already to perform.
Thanks to Martin Andersen, for the effort and time he's put in to it. Can't wait for late January for one to arrive!!!! Stay Safe all.

I reserved one early on the 24th. Not sure if Iím in the first batch or the second.

I already own a Magic Switchbox IIISE+, which Iíve had great fun with. I picked it up a year ago at a local Ring swap meet. Only paid $25 for it, got a heck of a deal.

Still, I think this IDEAA Lab model will suit me better. I like the fact that it is so thin. And I like the use of LED bulbs (they *are* LEDs, right?). The incandescent bulbs for my IIISE+ have their color painted on the glass. Itís starting to flake off in a few spots (yes, I know replacements are available).

Fingers crossed Iíll get my new one by Christmas. :)

For all of you who don't know which batch are you in you can check the confirmation email of your reservation: under the ďRef.Ē column, you will see ď SWITCH-BOARD-RESERVA3Ē if you are in the #3 batch. For those of you who are in #1 and #2 will not have the ď3Ē in the Ref column.

Martin,

My reservation shows "SWITCH-BOARD-RESERVA" (no 3) under the SKU column. I do not see any "Ref" column in the email. But I'm very sure I made it into no later than #2 batch. What I don't know is if I made it into #1 batch.

If I'm not mistaken when it was first posted the reserve price was $150 US and now because it's the 3rd batch they are reserving at $180 US. I'm interested in reserving it but not gonna pay extra from initial price especially if they are not even available to ship, that's poor business policy.

You are mistaken.

The full retail price has always been 210Ä (about $254 at current exchange rates). The first two batches (two batches of 50 units each) were offered at a discounted price of 159Ä (about $192). The third batch (another 50 units) is being offered at 179Ä (about $216).

This Switch Board was NEVER offered for $150 US.

Sorry I didnít mean to quote that last post of mine! I guess thatís what happens when I fall asleep searching the forums on my phone :(

Anyway as far as this effect is concerned the construction looks absolutely gorgeous. As an engineer I can see so many uses for this among friends and colleagues especially with the simplicity of the design and the feel of the board. Hopefully I can snag one of the 3rd runs! I do have one quick question though. When will the source code be available to play around with?

Thanks for the recognition :) we are specially proud of the simple look. And we know this will have a good imapct on "regular" people, but can greatly disturb engineer or other people with electronic/technical background.
At the end of the promo video we have a special disclaimer about this

I suspect that the lamps can no longer light up after removing the battery

I am not an electronics man but is some kind of capacitor not possible ?
Message: Posted by: Martin Andersen (Dec 3, 2020 07:33AM)
We have very tight space restrictions. The board is 1.6mm thick. That is 1/16 of an inch. :wow:
Moreover, that is an original effect from PVL Brilliant SwitchBox. first we don't want to ripoff their effect. Second, to be honest, I don't see it that magical. In fact, I think its giving away that there must be something hidden somewhere. Just my thought

No, programming your unit will be maybe for less than 1% of magicians. So including clips and programmer would increase the cost and almost nobody would use it, or even cause confusion on other 99%.
We will have them available to purchase if you want. And also we will give diagram and instructions in case you want to do it yourself.

--- STATUS UPDATE ---

I sadly announce that we found some turbulence.
Our expected shipping date was planned for mid-December, and we will not be able to meet that date

Factory was supposed to ship the products to us on Nov 27th, but due to increase complexity of the product they had several problems and could not ship until today. Assuming a transit time of 3-5 days for express shipping then we will receive them by mid next week (already mid-Dec). Still we have to program and test each unit one by one, pack them and ship.

That is only half of the problem. We made custom color rubber caps for the switches. 50,000 units color caps... that was the minimum order quantity. But really nice caps! Samples worked nice. But once we received the production units, they didn't work!!! :bawl:
I mean, they do work, and still very nice, but you can not fit one cap on top of the other as you see on the video to turn 2 different color lights at the same time. So I asked to produce a new kind of caps which proved to work. This will also delay the shipping maybe one extra week. :arg:

December has many holidays, and because of Xmas season shipping and customs are slower than usual. And still in COVID situation which make everything harder.
Im really sorry to make you all wait. I promise we are working extra hours to have them ready ASAP. But some things are out of our control. Thanks for your comprehension.

Sad news BUT this trick is worth to wait a bit longer to receive a flawless version ✨
Message: Posted by: kiketron (Dec 9, 2020 07:31AM)
Martin, you donít have to worry at all.
I understand the complexity of the project and I know all the wait deserves the chance.
I purchased Clonk and IpodRF directly from you in the past and I always received a state of the art final product.
Iím still in.
Anyway all my investment for the moment has been the reserve price, a very low one, so no hurry at all.

Although the bulbs seem to screw in/out easily with a minimum of turns, I was hoping this version would eliminate having to screw in each bulb, and use pressure fit bulbs instead as having to repeatedly unscrew and screw each bulb really bogs down every switchboard routine I have seen IMO.

Message: Posted by: videoman (Dec 9, 2020 12:33PM)
I am aware of that but feel the trade off is worth it. Again, just my opinion.
But I should add that I think Martin has done a wonderful job overall with the creation of this product and I wish him great success.
Message: Posted by: Martin Andersen (Dec 11, 2020 03:17AM)
Thank you all for your support!

We were aware of the "problem" of having to screw the bulbs and evaluated the possibility of alternatives. We are using E10 bulb holder model. And there is a BA9S model that allows to fit the bulb with only a 1/8 turn. Much easier, but those bulb holders have a spring inside, and a rod to make contact with the bottom tip of the bulb. That rod, when pressed with the bulb, comes out from the back of the holder and would need a hole in the circuit board so it can go through. The working is simple, but the trade off is a quite strange mechanism that protrudes from the back of the circuit, and most people will not be familiar with, so may rise suspicion even when nothing has to do with anything. Moreover, they are far less elegant. Was hard to decide, but we preferred a "nice and familiar, but more difficult" holder, than a "easier but ugly and suspicious" one :bg:

Third batch wont necessarily be delayed because of the #1 and #2 delay. We hope to keep the same expected shipping date by end of January.

BTW, only 5 left from #3! After that the price will go up :kidding:

Martin,

Do you anticipate extraordinary shipping delays due to the pandemic? I have an order with Lebanon Circle and Dan sent an update email this morning. Basically, he's not shipping anything at this time, even if the person's order is ready to be shipped. The new strain of virus has caused additional lockdown in the UK. Is the situation similar in Spain?

No, we didn't send the coupons yet, just an update of the production status, only to #1 and #2 reservations.
#3 has no updates yet, we are trying to see if there is an easier production method, as this one is too much effort to the factory.

To me it sounds a bit like cheaper processing and production of the item

Please maintain a high quality standard - for this I prefer to wait longer !
Message: Posted by: Martin Andersen (Dec 24, 2020 11:35AM)
Yes Mark, that is the email.

Magic Dust, No quality issues... in fact quality is our priority. We asked the factory to make 150pcs, but could only provide 100pcs, because the other 50 didn't pass QC. So our main goal now is to have a higher ďsuccess rateĒ. Not trying to lower quality or production price, just trying to be more efficient.

Update 3:

'Happy 2021!

We are almost done with the production and modification of the circuits. As we mentioned in the previous email, we had to change the battery holder, since they were defective. It has been a delicate job, but it has been perfect!

We also have bad news :(

The year 2020 has been especially bad for artists and those of us who work in this field. Our company has also been touched. Since we have made very few sales throughout the year, our shipping company (Spanish postal service) has terminated the contract with us for having made too few shipments. It's crazy, right? This means that we don't have a company to do the shipments. We are already negotiating with other companies, and although the shipping prices are much higher, you will not have to pay any extra. Shipments will only be delayed a few days until the new shipping company opens the account for us.

Finally I have something great to tell you, now the Switch Board includes rechargeable batteries! They are exactly the same as normal coin cell batteries, but can be recharged. We also include a charger, and all for the same price! We believe this adds value to the product and makes your job easier, so you don't have to constantly buy batteries.

I have to admit that this new product is giving us a lot of headaches, but at the same time we are very proud of the result and the quality of it. I am sure you are going to love it!

If you follow us on Facebook / Instagram / Twitter you can see some pictures of the production.
In a few days you will be able to make the purchase. I'll send you an email with instructions this week!

I thank you for the patience you are having.

Greetings and Happy New Year!'

I have never received an e-mail update ? And I'm surprised that is now spoken of deficiencies in the production, but which were not explained here in more detail ? I read only that some boards have not passed the final test, where I wonder how such a thing can happen with a relatively simple electronic circuit. I hope that I will soon receive an e-mail update and that the delivery of flawless boards no longer takes so long. However, it is regrettable that the shipping now also causes difficulties and additional costs. The addition of a rechargeable battery with charger is a praiseworthy consolation for the extended waiting time. I hope that ultimately everything turns out well for everyone.

Updates were sent only to batch 1 and 2. We were hoping batch 3 to have no delays, but I'm afraid it will be delayed also. I will send email to them when the moment comes. Now we are focused on delivering 1 and 2 this days.

THIS IS NOT A SIMPLE ELECTRONIC CIRCUIT. Its what is supposed to look like, but inside its quite complex to produce. This project has been rejected by more than 10 electronic circuit factories.

No one will have to pay any extra because of the shipping problems. We will bear this costs, as well as the rechargeable batteries and chargers. Everything will be exactly as promised, or even MUCH better. Except for the shipping date. We are really sorry for that and working to solve it.

NOT HAPPY!

I am outraged that you want to charge a fee for reliable methods to pay with a credit card. I decided to try the ("works worst") free payment through Redsis and got an error that the page couldn't be opened AFTER I had already submitted my credit card information. Now I don't know if my order went through or not. I've emailed you, Martin. Worse, I'm wondering if Redsis has now stolen my credit card information.

It is VERY disingenuous for a business to force the buyer to pay EXTRA to use a credit card safely and in a reliable manner. You should have included these fees in the original price of your product.

PayPal's credit card fee for an item in this price range is 2%. That's about $3.20. Yet, you are asking for about $15 in fees if I want to use PayPal.

And now my Coupon Code won't work anymore (trying to order another one because I think the first one didn't work).

NOT HAPPY right now.

Mark
Message: Posted by: Martin Andersen (Jan 8, 2021 03:27PM)
Oh, Mark so sorry. Working against the clock, maybe something is not well explained.
ALL THE PAYMENT METHODS PROVIDED ARE SECURE, you are safe. No need to worry about that.

Let me explain it:

There are 2 credit card payment methods. REDSYS is an European company, which complies with EU regulation. It has more strict validation methods and therefore sometimes it can reject USA payments if not all the security checks are passed. While STRIPE is a USA company, and accept payments which usually don't fail. But this payment gateway has higher fees for us.

Paypal is a ripoff for small companies. They charge a fixed fee + variable fee + cross-border fee. For a payment of 159Ä, Paypal gets 9Ä fee (we charge 8.74Ä extra for Paypal). Multiply this by 150 orders...
If you want to know more about Paypal check this: https://transferwise.com/gb/paypal-fee-calculator/

Taking in consideration that we are offering a very high discount over the product price and a low profit margin, we can not bear the cost of paypal. As you mentioned we could higher the price and charge 170Ä to get the paypal fee included in the price in order to receive 159Ä. We think that there are other payment methods without this high fees, all safe. You can even pay ACH transfer to USA account, which is usually free of charge.

If anyone don't want to pay extra fees, and had problems with REDSYS payment gateway, just contact us to find a solution.

Regarding coupon code don't worry, we will activate again. As mentioned on the email, any question or problem please reply to that email to get support. Asking for help here is not the best method, as I don't check as often as the email.

Regards

Martin,

I just tried to order again, my coupon code does not work. And I *did* reply to the email I received (more than 2 hours ago) and I have not received a response.

So, still dead in the water.

And your cart is showing "Fee + 11,42 Ä" for PayPal, not the 8.74Ä you are quoting above.

There is a FREE SHIPPING option that is not seen in the screen grab I captured. I was concentrating on capturing the payment fee area and wasn't paying attention to the shipping area that got added.

So, no worries... FREE shipping is available. I don't know how long it will take, but it's available.

Martin responded to my email and gave me a new coupon code. He urged me to try REDSYS payment again. I was hesitant, but he assured me that my coupon code would work again if the 2nd order also failed due to REDSYS error.

Thankfully, REDSYS worked this time. After submitting my credit card information, REDSYS took me to a screen generated by my bank prompting me to request a text message sent to my mobile phone to generate a security password to authorize REDSYS to use the card. The text came through successfully, I entered the supplied password in the appropriate spot, and my payment cleared.

So, I was successful in ordering without any addition payment fee and with free shipping.

Thank you, Martin! Now, like Mr. Talbot, the wait begins.

Message: Posted by: Martin Andersen (Jan 8, 2021 05:57PM)
Mark, don't know why you are being charged 11.42Ä instead of 8.74Ä. Do you have more products in the cart? The higher the total, the higher the Paypal fee. Otherwise please refresh the page. It should be as mentioned. Anyway, glad to hear you could place the order succesfuly with REDSYS. Its a secure payment gateway :)

Usually websites don't charge you a Paypal fee, because they are already charging you that in the price of the product. But they don't make any discount if you pay by other means. So you are always paying the fee, even when you don't pay with paypal.
We think its more fair to NOT CHARGE YOU the paypal fee in the price, and only pay it if you want to.
Some are complaining because of this, but do you prefer to pay 169Ä instead, and not having the option to get the "fee discount"? Most of you are paying with credit card, through REDSYS gateway with no problems. This way I think its more fair.

Shipping offered with Switch Board is FREE, and has tracking number. Its not the fastest shipping method. Usually can take about 1 week to Europe, and about 2-3 weeks rest of the world. Sometimes even some more, but not likely.
For those who want to get it fast, we offer an urgen option for +15Ä. Just in case you don't want to wait longer.

Insurance is not included. Usually parcels are not lost, at least not my experience over thousands of orders through the past years. If anyone wants to insure the shipping please write me an email, we will check that option for you.

Friends, I'm working after hours, and will be working all weekend. Any question just send me an email.
don't be afraid, and don't be pessimistic. Our company is 10 years old. We successfully brought several high class magic products, and anyone who know us can tell you our service is top notch. I ordered mine this morning with no hitches. Used a debit card and free posing, it all come in at 143 pounds sterling, I'm happy with that.
I think it ticks all the boxes for me, magic is a hobby and passion but I work as an electronics engineer.

Thanks Martin for getting this pulled together :-)

Do people still waiting for the first batch to arrive?
Did anybody received the product yet?

@Martin, is it possible to get notified when its in stock regularly?
Message: Posted by: kiketron (Jan 9, 2021 12:37PM)
Ordered mine today.
No issues or problems at all. I used my credit card.
I was charged the balance once I used the one use coupon code they emailed me.
If everything goes well it will be here before the month ends

Thanks Martin

What is the reason for further delay in delivery for Batch #3 ?

As I understand today's e-mail, the boards have not even been produced yet ?
Message: Posted by: Martin Andersen (Jan 11, 2021 05:05AM)
Previous factory don't want to produce this board anymore. This is not a simple circuit as you suggested some time ago :winker:
We have 2 new factories willing to do it, but we first want to make sample with them to ensure quality before starting production.

Looks very classy with the clear acrylic covers and is a good protection option

I did like the bottom from the previous design better though, especially the centered logo
New design seems to have sturdier lamp sockets, hence the extra solder points on the back
Message: Posted by: Martin Andersen (Jan 12, 2021 06:12AM)
Yeah, we improved the lamp sockets according to the feedback of the beta testers. Previous lamp sockets were soldered on the surface of the board. You had to be careful as you could rip the socket from place if not careful. While this ones go through the board and soldered on the back, much more protected and hard to break.
I agree with you that previous design was nicer, but we had to do it this way to make it "foolproof" :bg:

I am VERY excited by this release. I am in the first wave and have ordered the accessories as well. I have been long fascinated by this trick. I own approximately 10 - 12 of the variations that been sold since Paul Barnhardt came up with the concept and Wellington produced the first models (that Harry Anderson so expertly demonstrated to johnny Carson on the Tonight Show) It certainly seems that Martin and his company have produced what will likely turn out to be the most sophisticated version yet. Great things often come in small packages!

I don't believe this is a limited production. What is limited is a discounted price to the first customers. After these initial sales it will still be available but at full price.

Yesterday we started with the shipping process. The actual shipping will begin tomorrow, and yesterday and today we are adding each order in system of different shipping companies depending on your countries and shipping method selected. As we don't have any direct integration we have to manually copy the address, select which shipping method to use, weight, insurance, print shipping labels, etc... its a lot of work for 100 orders. We have to rethink this for the future!

Meanwhile we are finishing the translation of the instructions, and I have a question, hope you can help me with this.
How do you say in English when the magician make a mistake, but this is part of the plot, and finally at the end he solves the problem. Im not talking about a sucker effect, but instead like a prediction that is wrong, but then the magician turn it upside down for example, and now the prediction is correct.
Ive asked on a FB group some weeks ago, and several people told me this is called "Magician in trouble", but I would like to confirm, or otherwise hear better suggestions.

Thanks!
Message: Posted by: rhettbryson (Jan 19, 2021 05:42AM)
Martin - I will endorse the phrase "magician in trouble" but what happens might also be described as a "reversal of fortune."

I would not abbreviate it in a word or term, as not all people who order this trick are proficient in the English language and such certain meanings. I would explain everything so that everyone can understand it and if a small execution is necessary, I would do this. A small example is always the best way to make something understandable.

I can not check everyone. Many were sent yesterday, many others were sent today. Tomorrow will ship most of the pending ones, and probably some others on Monday. As for every country we need to ship with different shipping company, and some of you paid for urgent shipping, others regular shipping... we have to improve this for the next time. Its really difficult.
Moreover, some of you didn't/couldnt apply the discount coupon correctly, so each one we prepare we have to check if a refund has to be made. And on top of that, we have dozens of emails with questions, requests, etc from the orders. So we need to check that if there is any special treatment to be made to each of the orders. Really really time consuming :crazydude:

Well, after watching all the videos, extensive, necessary and very detailed instructions and practicing with the different effects that can be achieved with the Switch board, I have to say that I LOVED IT and I could not help but smile when I fooled myself during practice.
The board is really well constructed, the routines are well designed and more important, you can combine them and program the effects order.
Your audience can check the board immediately after each phase is completed without disturbing the rest of the routine.
There is a very deceiving effect where the plastic cap removal slowly switches off (dimmer) the corresponding bulb that I think is just great.
The principle behind the final prediction effect is very clever but will take some practice to understand.

Canít wait to practice a little bit more and show it to somebody this weekend.
Thanks Martin for this little Gem

Very easy to memorize work. Even the final prediction has a mnemonic rule easy to follow but requires some work and research.
Message: Posted by: Martin Andersen (Jan 26, 2021 10:44AM)
Probably at first you will think its hard to do it. Therefore we created ďRoutine 0Ē. Quite easy to learn and perform. Once you are confident you can try ďRoutine 1Ē, which needs a little bit of work, but not too much. Later you can create your own routines, and you can go as difficult as you want...
Im aware that the instructions and information provided can be overwhelming. Just sit and do it 2 or 3 times, and you will find that is not difficult at all :)
But would be happy to hear thoughts of other magicians who received it already!

Martin, Will the packages going to the U.S. eventually get handed off to the U.S. Postal Service? Will the StarPack tracking number eventually work via the USPS's site?

The shipped notification email I received estimates my Switch Board will arrive this Friday. When I track the number at SkyNet's site, the last entry for my package remains: Shipment Finalised, Madrid -Spain on Jan 22 at 4:49pm. Does that mean it has left Spain?

Mark
Message: Posted by: Martin Andersen (Jan 26, 2021 11:18AM)
Local shipping companies pick up the order from our office and ships to Madrid (Spain), where its shipped internationally. Then are handed out to an international company like USPS, or even UPS or DHL.
Most of this companies will update the tracking number once handed out, but in the process it can take a few days to update.

Yesterday, the SkyNet tracking for my package finally changed to "Arrived Hub" and then "In Transit to Destination". This morning, there are two different entries that show "Info Message Sent to Recipient". I do not know which recipient they are talking about, but it's apparently not me. I did not receive any emails with updated tracking information. Perhaps they mean the local carrier that will deliver it? I also tried the tracking number in the USPS system and it doesn't work there. I still don't know which carrier will deliver it (eventually).

Fingers crossed that it arrives tomorrow, as originally estimated. Not the end of the world if it doesn't. At least it's nice to see some updates to the SkyNet tracking.

The SkyNet tracking for my Switch Board was updated again overnight. The previous "Info Message Sent to Recipient" (one dated Jan 27 the other Jan 28) have vanished. Those were replaced by a "In Transit to Destination" and another (newer) "Arrived Hub". Then, above those are two new (dated Jan 29) "Info Message Sent to Recipient".

Clearly, the package is moving. All of the entries in tracking are tagged Madrid - SPAIN but I'm reasonably confident it is now in the U.S., I just don't know where in the U.S.

So far, I have not received any notification from UPS or another local carrier. Maybe today? But, at this point, it seems doubtful it will be delivered today (as originally estimated).

Parcel shipping has been a disaster for a long time because of Corona, the only thing that has worked well for me so far
is UPS-Saver .... then the package arrived after 3-4 days .... but costs around 50 USD .... but is worth it in certain cases.

BATCH 3 UPDATE
I just received an email from Martin letting me know it's gonna take between 1 or 2 months to have the 3rd batch ready. I guess they were never ready for their product to be successful and don't have the necessary man power to work on this project so we just have to be patient and hopefully cross our fingers in order to be able to purchase the Switch Board this year. Disappointing news to hear but nothing we can do just wait and purchase other magic products that come our way.

Your post is way off base. Martin has already explained the setbacks theyíve experienced with manufacturing partners. Stuff that is beyond Ideaaís control. I can understand your disappointment and frustration but you shouldnít be directing such snide comments at Martin.

Mark I think your interpretation is way off base I'm stating the fact that Martin himself has said that his team had to do a lot extra work that weren't expected due to tons of mishaps. And to top it off has now gone to another manufacturer which delays production. None of this is Martins fault.
So if you don't like my comment turn the other way and mind your business.

Thank you all for the compliments and support you are sharing with me, over the forum, and also in social media and email.
I have to say that the product became a great success and we were not prepared for, its true. Anyway we were able to handle a regular workload and even more, the problem was the cumulus of mishaps we had to take care, and this should have been done by the factory and not us. Just to clarify, none of this mishaps jeopardy the quality of the product in any way, so you don't have to be worried about this.
I wish I could share all the comments I'm receiving thanking me and my team for this product, and the high quality and possibilities it has. This would clear up any concern about quality problems in #1 and #2. People receiving it are really loving it.
We want to continue offering top quality products, and that is why this #3 batch is being delayed. We don't want to rush and have a quality issue because some detail was not checked carefully. And when starting a new project with a new factory, there are lots of details to take care.
I can understand all of you that are frustrated and willing to receive your Switch Board ASAP. If I were you, I would feel the same. I can only say that the waiting is for a good reason: quality.
Hope you can forgive us, even if the mishaps are not our fault, we are the ultimate responsible for offering a product and not meeting the deadlines. Sorry for that.
That being said, I hope someone who receive their unit this days can make an "Unboxing video" and share with all the others. Im sure most of you would love to see that.
Regards!

I'm excited for those of you that are anticipating your Switch Board in the next couple of days. May I ask, did you upgrade the shipping speed when you placed your order? I used the default free shipping.

The tracking for my Switch Box has not been updated since Friday (Jan 29). I was hoping there'd be an update this morning, but no such luck. Now, I'm not even convinced it is in the United States yet, all of earlier scans are tagged Madrid - SPAIN.

Hopefully, sometime this week.

Hi Mark,
I'm in the same boat, since Wednesday my tracking has said "This item is now leaving the originating country"
Nothing since then, so I would not be to concerned just yet with the way things are around the world.
I'm in the UK and just took the free shipping

Hi Mark,

I am not sure if this will help, but just recently I have shipped quite a few packages from the EU (France) to the States. All arrived safe and well and in good time.

However, during transit the tracking information was all over the place.....i.e. slow to update and none of the original (French) tracking numbers were converted to new USPS numbers (as in the past) when the packages arrived in the States. Therefore, they couldn't be tracked through the USPS tracking system. Not sure if UPS is the same.

I think the Covid 19 restrictions are playing a big part in this turmoil, and obviously it can cause a degree of anxiety to the receiver and of course the sender.

BTW, I have just received my Switch Board here in France......believe me, it's worth the wait and I am sure you are going to love it!

Bill, Thank you for your update. BTW, I'm not "concerned". I know it will eventually get here. I feel lucky that I got a preorder in in time for the initial shipments. I just don't like not know what is going on.

And I am a bit curious why some other folks in the U.S. have already received notice that their package is in the hands of UPS. So far, I have no idea which shipper will eventually deliver my package.

And it's disappointing that the initial shipping notification stated the expected delivery date was Jan 29 and, here we are, 3 days later and I don't even know if it is in the U.S. or not.

try checking your email spam filters for an email sent(at least for me) on '1/28' from 'mailer@ffdx.net' the subject reads 'SkyNet WWE - Delivery of IDEAA Lab order #XXXXXXXXXXXXXX' that contains the UPS tracking number, hope that helps

I believe faster shipping and better tracking is given by the $15 surcharge
Message: Posted by: rhettbryson (Feb 1, 2021 06:02PM)
I paid for the faster shipping as I thought it might get better handling that way. Mine arrived mid-afternoon today. I have assembled the acrylic case, charged the battery and dove into the details. EVERYTHING is first class, beautifully made and put together. I have even been successfully programed one of my own Routines! Still lots to learn and experiment with. Mark me down as a VERY happy customer!

Looks like once in a while you do get what you paid for; both with shipping and the product, in this case. I went for the free shipping and am patiently awaiting the arrival of mine.

Yes, I have a UPS account and get those notifications. But thank you for the tip. I have NO IDEA if this package is already in the hands of UPS but, given that I haven't received any notifications, I doubt it.

Rhett,

Before you got notification that UPS had your package, were you tracking it on the SkyNet website? This site:

http://www.skynet.es

That's the only place I can do any tracking, so far.

If you used the same site, did that site ever show that the package was passed to UPS?

Thanks!

Mark - I initially tracked the package - while it was "international" on SkyNet. But, also on my original SkyNet notification eMail they gave me the "handoff" UPS tracking number - which I used once the package arrived in the US.

When Corona was not yet an issue, I always had to expect 4-6 weeks for normally shipped packages from the USA
to my front door in Germany. With Corona, this has increased to up to 2 months and longer - The longest time the
packages spend with me always in the customs office, which are mercilessly overloaded with the flood of packages.

Thank you. The one doesn't provide anymore text detail than the one I was using, except... At the top,the broad arrows, the last arrow that has changed from gray to blue is "In Transit". The next arrow (still gray) is "Arrived at Destination". So, it appears my package still hasn't arrived at the local shipper.

A little more information than I had before, so thank you!

Thank you, Rhett. Unfortunately, my SkyNet notification email (which was from "Packlink") does not provide any sort of handoff number. Nothing remotely resembling a UPS tracking number. There's a shipper reference number and then two SkyNet tracking numbers. The second SkyNet tracking number is simply the same number as the first with a "-0" added to the end. I tried both of those numbers and the reference number in UPS tracking and UPS's system doesn't recognize them.

At least with the alternate SkyNet tracking page that Magicalos linked, I can see when the package has arrived at the local shipper (which may or may not be UPS).

Mark, It looks like your package is probably with mine, or at least following the same track. When I check SkyNet I see similar tracking information. The difference is that I did get a UPS tracking number. When I check it, it shows the same thing as SkyNet; that its last location was Madrid and the status changed to "In Transit" and that was Jan 28. The UPS site says "Check back tomorrow for an updated delivery date" but it's said that for a few days now. I think we just need to be patient and wait for the package to arrive in the US and be turned over to UPS. I'm hopeful then the tracking information will update and we'll get an accurate delivery date and then hopefully you'll start getting information from UPS too.

I have been afraid as of yet to attempt to understand Effect #7 or the Final Prediction sequence (both VERY complicated.)

BUT - fellows, you are going to love the quality and implementation of this remarkable tencnological innovation in the switch box/switchboard genre....

I will give a small warning for all who are awaiting the Switchboard. Mine, at least, did NOT come with a charging cable (the charging unit was included.) I found that I had to charge the beaneries before I could use the Switchboard. You will need a micro USB to USB charging cable to do the job. Luckily I had one or I would have been forced to go out and get some of the non-rechargeable batteries of the same size to use until I had purchased the needed cable. Maybe they assumed that everybody had one of these cables.... maybe they do?
Message: Posted by: Magic Mark (Feb 2, 2021 08:43PM)
Surprised the cable wasn't included. But I've got about a dozen micro USB to USB A charging cables here in the house, so no worries.

I doubt Martin has any more information than we do. He has sent the packages and now we're all waiting for the shipping companies to do their thing. My shipment, which is coming to the States, hasn't updated its status since the 28th which was showing it was in Spain.

We know that putting up a product like this has been a very challenging process, but the result makes up all the hard work we have done.
Thank you all for your patience, and for understanding that, even when it took 5 years to reach this point, the hardest part has been the last 3 months.
Really hope that those waiting for 3rd batch, can understand that quality and good service is priority for us, and that is why we want to do things the right way.

Thank you Olaf for your unboxing, I'm sure now everyone who was waiting is now a bit more relaxed, because he know what he will receive, but at the same time more exited to receive it soon! :sun:

Did you pay for expedited shipping? And where did you get the UPS number again? Was it on your original email notification from Packlink?

Thanks,

Mark
i did not pay for fast shipping however martin maybe!!!..... sent mine expedited without me knowing but that's a whole other topic

the ups tracking did not come from packlink (my theory is) those were just to track it from martin to the international shipper(in this case skynet), then tracked with skynet to the .US where UPS will take over once it clears customs? .... the email with the UPS tracking was skynet not packlink related if that helps

Martin,

Suggestion: Please send via email the links to the explanation videos so those of us that have a Switch Board on the way can spend some time watching the videos in preparation for arrival of our boards.

Here's the latest of what I see from UPS. Two things changed today, that I've highlighted, so they appear to be on the move now. But, as you can see, no delivery date has been given yet.

Mine has been delivered today, I'm in the UK. No other charges to pay, so all is good :-)
I had similar messages to you guys till yesterday, then it just changed to "with my local carrier" and "out for delivery", which is Royal Mail in the UK

Shouldn't be long now :-)

I had a crazy idea.. I emailed the folks at SkyNet Worldwide to ask if they knew which shipper my package would be handed off to once it reaches the U.S. A representative from SkyNet responded within 30 minutes and explained that my package has ALREADY been handed off to UPS in Spain. She provided the UPS tracking number (something nobody provided prior to this). This is what my UPS tracking looks like as of a few moments ago:

I emailed Martin and he provided me with the webpage and password for the instructions. For those that already have access to that page, do the videos play okay for you? I am having issues with the videos pausing (for 30+ seconds at a time) after only a few seconds of play. I tried by Safari and Chrome browsers on my Mac.

I sure hope Martin decides to allow us to download the videos instead of relying on their web page only.

The videos are working good for me and nobody experienced this issue as far I can tell. Maybe if your computer is very old then this page is very heavy for it (it loads 16 videos at the same time).
You can try to click on the "Alugha" logo in the player to watch the video directly on the video server page. Its not my page where they are hosted, so you don't have to rely on my website.

Luckily I had one or I would have been forced to go out and get some of the non-rechargeable batteries of the same size to use until I had purchased the needed cable. Maybe they assumed that everybody had one of these cables.... maybe they do?
Sorry for the cable, but its part of our commitment with the environment. Micro USB cables are SO SPREAD, and almost everyone have at least one, if not dozens of them. They come with cellphone chargers, computer connections, photo cameras... So we though not to contribute to the general waste of plastic and pollution. I guess you was one of the minority users that didn't had that cable. But think the other way around! The other 99 users did have one, and we saved 99 cables in the trash :where:

FWIW, my computer is a 4-year old iMac with 3.5GHz Core i7 processor with wired internet (not WiFi) and consistent download speed of 225+ Mbps.

Using Apple Mac Safari browser: When I go to the Switch Board Instructions page the embedded YouTube video at the top of the page works perfectly. Further down, NONE of the embedded Alugha videos will load. In Safari, I get this for each of the embedded Alugha videos:

https://www.thephotobooth.net/Magic/Switch-Board/n-NFwpb6/i-SspSWpk/A

The circle in the red square just spins and spins and spins. I left it trying to load for more than 10 minutes and it would not load. And if it doesn't start playing, there is no Alugha logo to click on.

Using Google Chrome browser: The embedded Alugha videos on the Switch Board Instructions page DO load and play, but I experienced frequent pausing (buffering). Fortunately, once they do start playing, the Alugha logo is available to click on and then I can go to the Alugha website and play the videos there. They play perfectly fine at the Alugha website (no buffering or pausing).

Further, if I copy the URL for any of the videos on the Alugha website and paste that URL in a Safari browser window, they also play fine in Safari (no buffering or pausing).

So, CLEARLY, there is some kind of issue with how the Ideaa Switch Box Instruction page is formatted/designed that is causing fits for Safari (and buffering for Chrome) on the Mac.

And you are right, it *is* the 21st Century. Which means there are ways to download the videos whether the host wants you to or not.

I shared this information directly via email but I thought it was worth posting here too, in case any Mac users run into the same issue.

Just tried Chrome browser again on my 2016 27" iMac running High Sierra. It seems to be working okay (yay).

Tried Safari browser again too. No go. Same constant spinning circle I linked above for ALL of the videos on the Instructions page.

I looked through all of my Safari settings, I do not have any content blockers loaded. Nor are there any extensions loaded. I see nothing on Safari's end that should be causing a problem.

Maybe if I updated my iMac to Mojave?

Had a good chance to play with the Switch Board this morning and it is fantastic.

It just works as advertised and very easy to use.
The main feature I like is you can programme in your own routines (you can pick from 7 in any order)
so you can have a short routine as well as a long one already in the board and you can pick which one you want to use.

It is very well built and it just looks like a single PCB with a battery and four switches and bulbs, nothing to see at all.

Supplied with two batteries which are rechargeable and a cloth bag to carry it all in, it just works out of the tin

Thanks Martin :-)

Mark, I couldnít agree more. Although it is wonderful as is, Iím glad I got the plexiglass backers as well. I would have responded earlier but this thing is just so much fun to play with! There are SO many more capabilities then I will ever use but itís great to have them available. I programmed a routine that although simple is a good start for me. They see that it works normally, then I switch the lamps anywhere they want and it still connects. Then I switch the switch covers anywhere they want... still connects. Then they do it themselves in their own hands. They install the lamps anywhere they want, then install the covers anywhere they want... it still works. There ar SO many other effects that I might work on just for the electrician and tech friends of mine that will want a more elaborate series of tests. For most, this basic routine will be perfect for me!

Thank you Martin and your entire staff for an amazing product!

I am anxious to hear stories from those of you who have been waiting not so patiently for so long to get your Switchboards. What do you think? Have you tried any of the programming? How are you doing with the learning curve? Have any of you mastered the Final Prediction (OR Effect #7!) A satisfied owner wants to know. I have been challenged to offer comments - which I am glad to do. I have been collecting magic switchboards/boxes since Wellington came out with the original model - based on the work of Paul Barhhard. Harry Anderson wowed Johnny Carson on the Tonight Show with the Wellington stage model. I am a big fan of the Wellington close-up mini switchboard. Bill's construction aesthetic is the best. His inclusion of the Edison logo on the mini's is first rate. I actually have about 12 different versions of this trick in my collection. All work slightly differently as the various makers seek to distinguish themselves from the others. No mater who has made the models the effect is a fooler and completely mystifies especially those who know some about electricity. I am, among other things, a professor of theatrical lighting design and present the trick to my students - explaining it demonstrates a long lost principle of electricity "Electricity follows color."

This latest iteration in the history of this fine trick by Martin Andersen is breaking new aesthetic and programming ground with the trick. His long process of development and experimentation with the concept has resulted in a superb piece of equipment.Every thing about it - from its concept to the implementation are first rate. The packaging, accessory acrylic case and instructions have the hallmark of great consideration and care. The programming is brilliant. The possibilities of routines made up of the 7 different effects in lots of combinations allows the owner to customize the trick to their liking. With the two built-in routines there is something to present right out of the box and then - with thought and programming the owner can add their own touches to possible routines. It is true that Effect 7 is quite complex and the Final Prediction will take so considerable practice to get right - there is so much to work with.

This is, IMO, the best version of this trick available. It is so beautifully made - so thin and innocent with no place to hide "the works." I do remain a big fan of the Canadian Switchboard and its performance possibilities - using a vastly different programming scheme.

My initial performances have gone so smoothly and the spectators have been blown away. One magician friend from England saw it on Zoom yesterday and said he had NO idea what the possible explanation was for the actions demonstrated. I feel this Switchboard will become absolutely my go-to when I want to show that Electricity follows Color!

Take Martin's caution about removing the battery (when not in use) seriously. I wanted to see how long the battery would last. After playing with the Switch Board on Monday night I put in a fresh (fully charged) battery and set the Switch Board aside (all switches off). I meant to check it on Tuesday but I took delivery of two more magic effects and my attention was on those. This morning, I went to experiment with the Switch Board some more and the battery was dead. I don't know exactly when it died but it was less than 36 hours.

I might sacrifice a standard CR2032 to see how much longer it might last (yes, I realize a non rechargeable CR2032 puts out less voltage and the lights will be dimmer).

Now I understand why the IDEAA Team decided to switch to supplying rechargeable batteries.

Mark

Which battery is normally used for it?
Message: Posted by: Magic Mark (Feb 10, 2021 12:11PM)
Amending my post above... The battery that was left in the Switch Board for under 36 hours may not have been completely dead. When I put it in the charger module the red charging light went off within about 10 minutes. That's some pretty fast charging if the cell was completely dead. When I put it back in the Switch Board it worked fine.

Now I'm not sure exactly what is going on. I find it difficult to believe a completely dead battery was completely recharged within about 10 minutes. What is everyone else experiencing for recharging times?

I am considering purchasing additional LIR2032 batteries from Amazon. I've found that there are LIR2032H rechargeable batteries, the H stands for High capacity. Normal LIR2032 batteries are around 40mAH and 3.6 volts. The LIR2032H batteries are 70mAH and 3.7 volts.

Martin, would it be safe to use the LIR2032H batteries in the Switch Board? Having nearly twice the capacity would be a plus.

The Switch Board is supplied with two LIR2032 Lithium-Ion rechargeable batteries. Those batteries are 3.6 volts. A standard (non rechargeable) CR2032 battery is 3.0 volts. Both will work (as demonstrated by someone else that owns the Switch Board). But with the standard 3.0 volt battery the lights won't be quite as bright.

Mark
Message: Posted by: Magic Dust (Feb 10, 2021 12:32PM)
Both battery types do not last very long, because apparently much energy is consumed for the lamps, so the rechargeable ones are my first choice, also because of environmental aspects. The lighting with the non-rechargeable batteries, however, I like a little better. I have not measured the time to charge but it was definitely more than 10 minutes. The CR 2032 lasts a little longer and has 3.3 volts when fresh and the rechargeable LIR 2032 has 4.2 volts when charged.

A small (separate) charger module is supplied with the Switch Board. It's very basic, but gets the job done. It requires a USB-A to USB Micro charging cable (not supplied).

I can't get away from the "Switch Board", all the different routines are just great and are a challenge for my grey matter and memory. I also really liked Routine #7, because the effects flow into each other seamlessly. I would have liked to have 1-2 more pre-programmed longer effects. I haven't gotten to the magic end routine yet, because I still can't blindly execute all the other routines, but I'm happy every time about the different lights combinations.

martin sent out an update for people who live with areas of high static charge maybe having issues so they are sending replacements

I want to comment about how impressed I am with Martin and his team and how they've handled the static electricity issue. The situation never happened to Martin & his team nor did it happen with any of the beta testers. So, there's no way they could have known about the issue before shipping the first two batches of boards. Only after the production boards got into the hands of buyers did reports start to come in about weirdness happening with the boards. At first, Martin and his team were unable to replicate the problem. But they didn't let that stop them. They felt the only practical explanation was static electricity but, being near the sea and with high humidity, nobody in the office was generating any static electricity. So, they built a static electricity generator. Once they starting testing with the static electricity generator touching the person using the switch board, BINGO!

The great news is they've ALREADY figured out a fix. It required redesigning the complex circuit board. In the Facebook group, Martin posted a video of the prototype version of this new board next to one of the earlier production boards. He fires up the static electricity generator and demonstrates how the static charge affects the earlier board but does NOT affect the new design.

New test boards are being made right now to be sent to some of the people that had issues. Once it's confirmed by those folks that the new board design isn't having any issues, additional boards will be made to replace the remaining boards in the first two batches. I'm sure batch #3 boards will be sometime after that.

Again, I'm super impressed with how quickly Martin and his team jumped on this issue and worked hard to resolve it as quickly as possible. :righton:

Will there be an obvious way to tell the redesigned circuit boards from the new static-electricity resistant ones?

For another similar older switchboard, I was sold one from a known defective first batch on the Cafť and that caused no end of grief (they were hard to tell apart and I didn't realize there were defective ones floating around). I already see folks asking to buy this switch board, perhaps not knowing they are being redesigned and replaced.
Message: Posted by: Cluckdini (Mar 14, 2021 03:02PM)
Thank you Mark for the well worded note pointing out that switch board being sold on the Cafť yesterday was likely from these first 100 that had this static issue. Perhaps Martin Andersen should include a certificate of static electricity resistance with the new ones, so that is something that can be mentioned or asked about in sale listings.

Any feedback on the new boards? Are we any closer to the 3rd batch?

Martin sent me one of the test boards but it hasnít arrived just yet. Maybe tomorrow.

In the meantime, Martin reported that some of the test boards have arrived to folks in Europe (people that had static electricity issues with the previous board) and they are not having any issues with the test board.

My test Switch Board was delivered on Wednesday. I programmed a routine and have now run through that routine (start to finish) about 2 dozen times, all without any problems. It has worked perfectly.

I don't know if I'm the last tester to report back, but I hope so. I anxiously await the production replacement Switch Board.

Martin sent an update via email. The new circuit boards are already in production. IDEAA Labs expects to receive them around April 16. It will then take a week or so to test and program the boards. Martin expects to ship them around April 23 (give or take).

They ordered enough boards for all replacements, all of batch 3 and the waiting list and a few extras. If I understood his email correctly, the replacement board will get shipped first followed by batch 3 orders.

Martin will include instructions in a subsequent email to explain how to handle the replacements and pending orders (batch 3, etc).

Martin sent an email on Monday, April 26. The factory had a slight delay in shipping the boards. But, as of the 26th, the boards were on their way to IDEAA Lab. Martin expected them to arrive at the end of last week and he said they expect to start shipping them to customers this week.

So, it's getting close. Martin will send an email to customers (waiting for their boards) as soon as the new boards are in the hands of the shipping company.

FInally placed my order. Let me just say this with zero malice... but that was probably the most frustrating buying process I've been through in a while. Delays happen, which I don't fault martin for but that is frustrating. But that's besides the point. I get an email with the discount code which is very kind of Martin saying my unit is ready, I place the order using the code. When I go to checkout, though, turns out that to use paypal, Martin requires the buyer to cover his paypal fees and he calls it a "handling" fee. It's only 15 dollars or so, but the discount makes up for it. I can use a credit card but then there is around an 8 dollars fee. The only "free" way to pay is by bank transfer which I tried, unsuccessfully several times. His instructions he gives invovled signing up for a free service and going in a round about way which was quite frustrating, especially when it doesn't work. So I email Martin because the order is in with his website, but I hadn't paid yet. So I just asked if I could use paypal. Didn't get a response, but I did get a second email this morning saying that the code I was given was too high a discount, so the order was canceled... So I had to place the order another time, which while I was doing that, I got a 3rd email saying that that code was also incorrect and that I was to use the 3rd code. which I did and just paid the extra 15 dollars to use paypal as that's simpler. So I think my order is in.. I guess we will say. Again, no malice or ill will at all but I've never been so frustrating trying to give someone money. I'm sure the product will be fantastic and I'm eager to receive it but just wanted to let others know that if you plan on getting this, pour yourself a shot of your favorite beverage to help take the edge off :)

Something similar happened to me!

I ordered about 12 hours ago, and also used Paypal.
I also considered the Paypal fee was not a big deal.

After some account registration hazzle, I thought first that my account did not registred, but an email told me it was ok!
And an other email told me that my order was also ok.

Paypal sent me a confirmation, but I found that the promised discount of 35 euros was nowhere to be found in the confirmation email.

Well I thought that maybe Paypals payment process is too quick for a discount code to be registred.
(But I put the discount code into a Paypal message box.)

Then I got an email from Martin, I must admit I did not understand. It was something about a wrong discount code, or something. And to use an other!
But, I had already sent payment and ordered!?

I tried to send an email to Martin at IDEAA LABS but an error message popped up in my mailbox telling me that my latest mail was sent to an addess that nobody was watching.

So once again I search and found a place on the IDEAA LABS site to send messages.

Phew!!!

Martin, if you see this:
I hope my order and payment for order R3IY01472 is ok! :D

Well this is getting really funny though!!

Looking forward to th Switch Board though! ;)

It's a bit ridiculous but also, in any other industry if you send a discount code to someone, even if it is the wrong code, you honor that code for the individuals that used it. Not great form there. It is what it is.

My impression is that no matter how good the product might be, it is not a very good way to do business. Problem after problem from a company that is not in the USA just does not suit me.

Well, I must say that I am surprised. Might be some misunderstanding.
My mishaps in ordering and paying, etc. was quickly sorted out, And the payment for my order has already been partially refunded via PayPal, so I eventually got the promised discount.

I also ordered a Switch Board (and some spare parts) yesterday using the discount code Martin had sent me. I have to admit that I was quite surprised to see the SB discounted down to 179Ä (from 245Ä) after entering the code because Martin had announced a prize reduction of 35Ä (only) in his email. Later he sent out another mail telling that the discount erroneously had been to high (due to a typo) and he cancelled all orders that had used to wrong codes. So I had to order anew with the corrected discount. All in all and regarding all the posts here about Martin/IDEAA lab being quite supportive and helpful (e.g. with the static electricity problems) I have no big problems with that. A minor point is that I paid now twice for the Switch Board by bank transfer and therefore have to wait a bit longer for the payment to be refunded.

I think they are fine with their support. As a business man, I have on occasion made an error when quoting a price to my clients. When that has happened I bite the bullet and let the sale go through. After all the client purchased in good faith and it was my error. I do not feel the client should pay for my mistake. I just don't think it is good business to refund the money and make me re-order this again at a higher price due to an error on their part.

This is just my thinking about good business practices.

That's also my point. So sticking to the initial (too high) discount would probably have meant selling the boards without any noteworthy profit margin. And as annoying and non-professionell this quite chaotic discount action might have been (and I do believe Martin that he deeply regrets it) this small company on the other hand surely is dependent on the money they earn with this - nonetheless - great product.

UPS sent me an email stating that I have a package from Martin scheduled to be delivered tomorrow (May 17). However, I have a sneaky feeling that it is just an automated email based on the original estimated arrival date. I will be pleasantly surprised if it does show up tomorrow, but I'm not holding my breath.

UPS has changed its tracking site. The customer gets FAR less information than before. It simply says, "On the way" and then the ESTIMATED arrival date. There's no way to see the package's progress. I have no idea if it has even left Spain yet.

It's as if UPS figured out that they REALLY suck at package delivery, so instead of giving the customer SOME information, they'll just keep the customer in the dark as long as possible.

Can you post before and after pictures of the most identifiable difference between the original board and the fixed board? It is the battery holder or something else? This would help folks buying used ones make sure they are not getting sold the original static-sensitive design version.

Thanks!

The revised Switch Board is easily distinguishable from the original design. My revised board was shipped without the Ideaa Lab sticker on the bottom. The bottom of the revised board has been changed to include an Ideaa Lab logo without the need for a holographic sticker. But, Ideaa Lab supplied several of the stickers in the box, so the customer can apply one if he/she wants. Therefore, the presence of the sticker is not a good indicator.

What the revised Switch Board has that is not found on the original board is some + traces at 5 points on the underside of the board. The five places are the bottom battery solder pad, and center solder pads on each of the four switches. I've added arrows to those spots in this photo.

A MUCH larger version of that photo: https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-WDncGF4/0/6e90546f/O/i-WDncGF4.jpg

I assume these + traces were added to ground those five solder pads to each other and, thus, eliminate the static electricity issue. The test board I received also has those little extra + traces. Frankly, I never noticed. It wasn't until I started comparing the original board to the final revised board that I noticed the change.

Thank you so much Mark for the super clear description and huge picture identifying the differences! Hopefully those looking to buy used versions in the future can use this to identify which version they are getting.

I have an order in for a new version but I often buy used backup copies of effects I use regularly (and I expect to use this regularly if I can duplicate my current switchboard routine). If the used one has a sticker, I may ask them to peel it off to demonstrate it is really the second generation version.

Thanks for the reminder. Yes, I think the Facebook group is set up to ask for the serial number of your Switch Board before you can gain admission. I forgot about that.

There is also an "open" Facebook page:
https://www.facebook.com/IDEAA.Lab/posts/1559577994217327
and here you can read in a post from May 21st:
"Packing your Switch Board".

And on their web site it says:
"Due to the high demand we are experiencing with this product, shipping may delay several days."

So, we who ordered from this last batch obviously have to be patient! ;)

Yes, I got a tracking number from Correos (the postal service in Spain they use for free shipping).

It appears you've programmed your routine into the default position.. 0. I thought that was not possible? Am I mistaken? I though we couldn't change routine 0?

I haven't tried this myself but I think you can also start with routine 0

on the other switch positions and then let other sequences follow ...

I like this beta board option 👍 would be great if this would be possible with the new SB as well ...

if each switch could be programmed beforehand so that no activation is necessary before inserting the battery

I, too, wish that the default routine position (0, no switches on when battery is inserted) was programmable on the production boards.

So I instantly ordered. So far I have not received a shipping confirmation and no further replies to my mails.

Does anybody have experience with this with a real audience? how is the "impact"? is it really "magical" or is it "a piece of tech", kind of "i don't know how it works but it will be some tech behind anyhow"...? thanks for your reviews...

My Switch Board arrived in the USA 5 days after the shipping notice (I paid for faster non-free shipping). The new methods Martin came up with are very cool but I really want to reprogram mine to allow me to do my original routine that I have perfected over the last 15 years (and fits my character). It looks like I have to do the totally risky "you may brick your unit" update to accomplish what I want. The totally cool "safe" and easy reprogramming is not enough for what I want to do (although that is feature is awesome and I plan to preserve that in my update).

Please PM me if you would be willing to sell me your 'static sensitive' first generation board for a reasonable price. You can keep everything else (lights, etc.) but the board if you wish. I just want to have one or two cheap boards that I might brick to play with before I try to update my real board. Someone on the Cafť earlier offered to sell me both their static sensitive version and the final replacement version, but all their PMs mysteriously disappeared from my sent box (and in box) after I pmed them expressing interest in their offer (so please reach out if that was you or if you are interested in something similar).

Thanks!

As with probably all magic, it depends on whether you can find a routine that fits with your character, your show/set, and your audience. For me personally, a magic switchboard is an outstanding icebreaker for two of the three types of audiences I regularly perform for (middle school students and scientists/engineers). It does not work well for me for kids under 9 years old (my third audience type). I actually bought a backup second 'original' switchboard model (Wellington mini, no longer made) because about 5 years ago I realized one of the STEM shows for middle school students that I was doing 20-30 times a year would be much weaker if my circa 2003 original switchboard broke (It took me a while to find the right ice breaker for each show theme). I am hoping I can make this new model a much more portable replacement for the Wellington mini I often use for my walk around shows and as an emergency backup for that STEM show.

I don't present it as magic but from the strong reactions I get, I am sure many view it as magic. I present it as a prototype that I would like them to help me test. They help me design more and more crazy experiments (and make a ton of decisions). My routine allows me to make eye contact and ask simple-to-answer questions to 12 different folks and have 8 folks carefully inspect the various components. Those decisions and inspections of components get half the students in the classroom (or everyone at a 10-top table) involved from their seat in my 5 minute routine. No matter what crazy thing we try, the switch board always does the right thing. By the end, several folks are muttering 'no no no' as we set up the last experiment that cannot possibly work, and it does. I often end by commenting that unlike the prototypes I normally work with, this one works perfectly and they are ready to be shipped to customers. And we all now have a connection that I use to make the rest of the show better as I follow with much stronger magic.

I will add that a magic switchboard is one of the three items I commonly carry around parties as 'bait' to be invited to perform at a table. When I enter a party (usually huge parties full of scientists and engineers), I walk around slowly carrying the stitchboard getting a feel of the layout. Usually very quickly someone who is bored and looking for entertainment will call to me to ask me what that thing is that I am carrying. "It is a prototype. Would you be willing to help me test it?" is enough to get the show going. There is a lot of blinking lights and interaction. My follow on routines usually create gasps and laughter. Now everyone else within sight of that table wants to know what is going on with those lights and the fun. And pretty much everyone wants me to perform at their table when I am finished with that first table. It is my favorite bait since it is so visible.

I will add that Martin's switchboard is much more sophisticated than the model I have all the experience with. You can do much more crazy and customizable things with it but it works very differently then the one I use. This one has at least seven advantages over the original model I use: 1) It is available for sale now. 2) It is much more powerful. 3) It is much more portable. 4) It is less expensive than the original. 5) It looks deceptively simple in construction. 6) it is highly customizable to your specific routine. 7) and a simple google search will not reveal how this one works. However, that search will still reveal how the original switchboard works, which might provide a false solution to folks for this one. Martin didn't want to rip off other switchboards approaches, so he intentionally did not make it able to exactly emulate other switchboards approaches. This is a limitation that probably only affects a few folks like me that have existing polished routines that took the other approaches to their limit and relies on all aspects of the other approaches in order to work seamlessly.

Hopefully this will not matter much longer, but a switchboard is also a perfect ice breaker over Zoom. I can ask the same 12 questions over Zoom to different individuals and all the crazy stuff can happen the same on Zoom. They just cannot examine everything but I can honestly reassure them that more than a thousand folks have examined the lights, sockets, and the switch covers (which I can hold close to the camera) and there is nothing to find and the same experience would happen in person. It get all the same reactions when all the crazy experiments work perfectly.

I hope this helps you decide if this magic switchboard is right for you.

Received the switchboard. Came with a defective battery which martin quickly addressed!

I have never owned other versions of switchboard before but it does everything as advertised. Comes with 7 different effects and customizable order.

Only limitation without revealing too much is that you cannot pair multiple switches to one bulb. Not sure if this is a limitation in previous versions.

All in all, I was very happy with what I have received for the price I paid. Congrats Martin on an amazing release.

Thank you cluckdini for your long and detailed answer. I appreciate it very much. my audiences (i'm just a hobbyist who found back to magic in his late 40s) are adults with an educated background (sounds silly, but describes best what I want to say...) in a parlor/living room environment. the "strong" pieces in my set are mentalism and memory-routines, with some magic tricks as "breaks", like crazy man's handcuffs or misled or the floating rose. the overall theme of the show is "childhood memories of the 70s and 80s". my idea was/is to put the switchboard in a box from such an old "kids-electronic-experiment-sets" (together with some other purely decorative electronic parts) and tell it with a 5th-class-school-story... I'm sitting on the fence... ;-)
thanks again!

There are some much lower-tech-looking switchboards available now that might fit the "kids-electronic-experiment-sets" theme better, including some that are designed to look cobbled together. This version looks very new tech (with led bulbs) with a clean, modern circuit board that appears to have no place to hide anything sneaky. That is one of the hugely appealing aspects of this switchboard. The original Wellington version was plug in with big incandescent bulbs and no visible circuitry, which I have always been tempted by and is very old school (but hard to walk around with). My mini version uses small incandescent bulbs, 8 batteries, and no visible circuitry.

Although I love magic switchboards, and use them all the time, I would only get one if the effect calls to you personally. They are expensive and surprisingly easy to mess up the effect with (takes regular practice, at least for me). There much much more powerful effects available that are much easier and cheaper. That said, my wife and I are both electrical engineers, so it was irresistible to me and I don't regret spending the $400 back in 2003. It is the only trick my wife demanded I share the secret with her as the condition of its purchase. For engineers and scientists, it is so killer that it causes many of them pain, and I work with a lot of them. I occasionally get long emails the next day with very clever ideas on how I accomplished it. Several magic shop owners have told me they used to sell many of switchboards to the wives of electrical engineers the day after demoing it to the engineer, because it is driving their spouse so crazy. However, I clearly remember early on excitedly showing it to my highly-educated nurse sister, who normally really reacts to my magic, and her reaction was a confused "so?". I had to explain why what she saw would be too hard to really do (which is a bad sign). To her, all electronics do impossible things, so it is my only trick that didn't really impress her the first time I showed it to her. It took me a while to find a clearly impossible routine that worked on everyone (at least everyone over 9). This switchboard (along with other newer ones) has more impossible options than the one I have been using (see the demo a page back for examples) but you have to have a reason that works for your character to do those crazy impossible things. Ten years later, showing my switchboard to my sister's husband, with a much better presentation and with a much more clearly impossible ending did get a great reaction from both of them. So a happy ending. :)

Hope this helps.

Those asking about this as a performance piece.... to me, I wouldn't necessarily feature this in a show, at least not my normal show. This is more of a "house curiosity" that I like to hvae around to show my guests something interesting. But it is very impactful. I just learned the "routine #1" and did it for some friends yesterday and it is very magical. This is the best version of this effect and the qulity and craftsmanship is really something. Very happy with my purchase. I will say, worth the wait.

Martin Andersen is kindly helping me out both with a very reasonably priced board with some aesthetic defects to test with (with my order today of a second real board from him) and more details on how to start what is clearly a long complicated road to actually be able to radically reprogram these awesome boards (I need to do more than the easy-to-do reprogramming currently supported).

I am no longer desperate for a 'static sensitive' board but please still PM me if you wish to sell me one as a backup for my crazy experiments.

I keep getting tempted to buy one of these because I think itís phenomenal but I have held off so far.
Iíve owned a couple magic switchboards over the years and currently use Randi Rainís.

What I love about Randiís is it is made from a piece of plywood with what appear to be old components purchased from Radio Shack many years ago. It absolutely looks like something I could have made as a high school project and just discovered in an old box of stuff, which is part of my presentation. It only does 2 short and very basic routines, but I find that is just enough for folks that see it on display in my home.

Martinís switchboard can do some incredible things that have never been possible before, and Iím sure itís great for other magicians or electrical engineers. The problem is that those are not my typical spectators. My typical spectator is well educated and intelligent but usually doesnít have a lot of knowledge of electricity or circuit boards so I fear that much of the effect will be lost on them.

With Randiís switchboard the circuit board is deliberately hidden whereas with Martinís the unit itself is a circuit board. I realize that the circuitry appears to be very basic but I worry that many of my specs wonít really understand that even when itís pointed out to them. Circuit boards themselves are very magical things that most people know very little about other than you can fit a billion micro processors on the head of a pin (or whatever it is.). The fact that my knowledge of electricity is probably about equal to that of my spectators makes me wonder how impressed theyíd be with this. Iím mainly impressed by it because of my familiarity with other switchboards so I have an understanding of what is possible and what isnít.

But I fully admit that I may be totally wrong about all this. Iíd love to try it out one of Martinís and see but itís a pretty hefty investment if I were to find out I was pretty much right after all.

So I guess Iíll continue to use Randiís. Another plus with hers is the larger size and mad scientist appearance of it is actually a nice bonus feature because it stands out and attracts more attention.

Iíll probably pick up one of Martinís someday if I see one being sold as used for a good price.

In the Switch Board Owner's Group on Facebook I suggsted a mod for the plastic tips for the possibility to stack them on top if each other (as suggested for the silicone ones as said in the instructions).
To further experiment with this I ordered a whole bunch of extra plastic tips from Martin.
They arrived quickly and I will also say Thank You Very Much for the extra bonus/gift that you also sent!
Very much appreciated!
Switch Board sold out 4 times already, and it was out of stock for several months.

Now it's back in stock FOR THE LAST TIME. Sadly this product is so hard to make that no factory is willing to make them anymore :(

Now that I've played with it, this thing is great! There is a small learning curve, but a couple hours of practice can overcome it. For the price, I wish there was a "How to care for" section, but I imagine it would be something like 'it's electronic - use common sense.'

I think you could ask Martin how many acrylic covers he've sold. (But you could not be sure how many user actually use them.)
But personally I use it, mainly to protect the board.

On the under side there are solder points and I don't think it is a good idea that you, by mistake, put the board on top of, say, a metal paperclip or any other metal object! A shortage or other damages might happen! (Maybe Martin will inform us?)
That is the reason I use the cover.

I agree with Ekat that the "naked" look is better though, but I will use the cover.
Considering the price to get a spare.... well... ;)

I have had mine for four months now and used and performed with it many many times, and it has never failed! Great product indeed!

Oh! I don't know why I was not receiving notifications from the forum and missed several pages of replies
Thanks all for all the support and great reviews we are receiving about Switch Board. I was aware that this was the product were we dedicated more time and effort, but all your messages makes me feel very proud of it.

About the acrylic cover, well to my taste I prefer without it. But most of you are getting the acrylic case, and those who don't usually end up buying it a few days after receiving their Switch Board. Its a pity, because shipping is as expensive as the acrylic case, so if you are in doubt, maye better to buy it together than having to pay "twice the price" a few days later.

Its true that placing the board over a metal surface can short the connections. That is something to avoid, but we took some internal precautions so probably you wont end up burning your board... its more likely to kill the rechargeable battery insted. Still be careful as warranty don't cover those kind of problems.

BTW, several of you were interested on buying a second circuit as a spare, so now you can buy only the circuit if you want:

And its true, as someone stated a few days ago, this is our last production as no factory is willing to fabricate more. We have enough stock for now, but don't wait to much as it might be too late

Cant wait to watch Michael's review! :bigdance:

I included the acrylic cover with my purchase as Martin suggests, not being sure if I would end up using it. As it turns out I too prefer the look of the ďnakedĒ board.

But I did use the tiny fasteners supplied with the acrylic cover by themselves without using the actual cover. Just put the small bolts through the board with the coupling nuts on the underside to act as short legs to elevate the soldered connections enough so as not to make contact with any surface the board is placed on.

I originally thought the board itself would be somewhat fragile without the covers and could possibly snap if carried in a pocket or dropped. But upon receiving it I found it to be much more robust than I had anticipated so I found the acrylic covers to be unnecessary.
