Topic: Azlan Card At Any Number

The copy:

ď ďThis is great! It's so cleanĒ Ė Peter Turner

ďFraser has really created a beautiful routine here with Azlan! As I worked through the piece I was laughing out loud at the brilliantly layered construction of this predicted card at any number. I can't wait to fool the crap out of people soon with this!Ē Ė John Carey

Azlan Card At Any Number

Azlan is a completely hands off ďCard at Any NumberĒ effect utilizing a standard deck that can even be borrowed by the performer.

The performer hands the spectator a deck of cards. The spectator shuffles the deck.

Then, holding the deck towards themselves so that the performer cannot see anything, the spectator checks through the faces of the cards to ensure each and every one in the deck is different, taking out any Jokers that may be left in the deck in the process.

They immediately place the deck face down on to the table in front of them. The deck remains untouched by the performer from this point onwards.

Now that everything appears to be fair and above board, the performer proposes to show the spectator the difference between them trusting their intuition and just guessing.

Accordingly, the spectator makes a guess on which card they think is at a random position in the deck. Then, they use their intuition to somehow know at what number (position) a card, currently unknown to them, resides at within the deck. Now comes the proof.

First, they deal to the random number and are shown that the card they named via guess work does not reside at that position, proving that when they simply guess, theyíre likely to be wrong.
Then they pick up all of the cards, being careful not to change their order, and deal to the number they intuitively called out before.

Amazingly, the card dealt to - using nothing but their own intuition matches your prediction perfectly!

This prediction can be written down ahead of time and even before the deck is handed to the spectator to shuffle. Alternatively, the prediction can be a duplicate card with a different colour back, placed inside a single envelope that is handed to your spectator before you begin the effect.

It really is this clean and impossible looking.

NO gimmicks
NO stacks or difficult sleight of hand
NO language re-frames or dual reality
NO short cards or cutting of the deck!

Easy to learn and easy to perform!

I am pleased to say this effect has fooled a few of my close friends in magic.

In fact, it even fooled me when I went back and watched an older performance video of this that I had recorded as a note to myself.Ē

So obviously Iíve been out of the game for a while, bought a few products here and there, but this one really caught my eye. Getting back into cards hasnít really been easy, my hands lock up, Iím not as smooth as I once was, and the appeal of a borrowed deck ACAAN has always been a passion of mine thatís lead me down a lot of rabbit holes over the years.

Knowing the hard times our industry is facing, and that the passion for the mystery arts still flows through my veins, I had to pick this up to keep supporting our original creators in need.

Iím currently reading this, but thought Iíd open up the discussion for others while Iím processing it, playing with the mechanics, and soaking it all into my aging cerebral fluids.

In the meantime...

Iím always on high hopes from Fraser, not everything is perfectly my fit, but I always seem to find value in his creativity and approach.

What do yíall think of this?

Not that I know of, but I could be wrong or it could be something in the works, but I doubt it due to Covid in the UK.

I picked it up on Fraserís site:

http://www.fraserparker.co.uk/

Quick delivery and friendly service as always :)

So the initial read through synopsis is this:

I am peeved... which is a lot like ****ed...

I tried breaking this code a while back for a hands-off ACAAN style effect, and while I figured out some great solutions... nothing ever checked all the boxes.

This in the other hand, at least upon reading (I will need to test it) has done what I could not do and in a way that only strengthens the effect itself!

To answer your questions...

Yes they do a genuine shuffle.

Yes it does play out EXACTLY as advertised.

No, this isnít a stereotype by the book ACAAN, but it doesnít claim to be!!

More on this in a few days once I get my hands dirty with the testing.

I am interested to see how many people share my thoughts on this because I LOVE this style of self working or semi-automatic card work... and how many troll simply because they can...;)

Hope this helps!

Well, I cannot resist ACAAN types of effect, though I understand the is more of a CAAN. Anyways, I just bought it.

Hey guys,

This is a great CAAN, but it does have a sort of feeling like a ACAAN in a way.

I quite like it.

Can this be done over zoom?

With some thought it can, but its better reserved to do in person.

The spectator does all the work for you.

Its a different type of approach, reminds me of something from Stewart James.

You had me at Stewart James! I took the plunge and just ordered it!

Rowdymagi5,

I think you will like it.

I fooled myself the first time I tried it on myself.

Let me know

I am not trying to in any way get to the method, but I just want to ask if you have to do any math calculations on the fly. I want something that has a set or straight path in my instructions to the spectator. Do you have to do math in your head as you talk to the spectator?
Message: Posted by: BMWGuy (Apr 20, 2021 12:40AM)
Yes, but itís elementary.

No math.

But very basic calculation even an elementary student can do.

Alex.

Yes, the math is basic, no problems there. Overall not a bad effect and some good thinking.

Can it be done in other languages (e. g. German)?
Message: Posted by: Jacob Smith (Apr 21, 2021 11:09PM)
Yeah, itís not language dependent at all.
