Just opened the mail and the two new issues of Private Studies, by Ron Bauer to hand.
All I can say is WOW! The 14 pages, with fabulous photos and drawings of "The Complete Don Alan Chop Cup" is all you could ask for and MORE. THE REAL WORK on how Don loaded, got the laughs and set up for doing his classic routine. This is the first time all the subtle work has been published. A must have for any close uppers worth their salt. A mere $15.00 for one of the greatest routines in table magic history. The second releast is RNT II presents Ron Bauer's basic Cups & Balls technique. This is well illustrated and as the late Milt Kort said, "This is one of the best and easiest versions I've ever seen." I agree. And at $10.00 you will learn one of the most deceptive ways to do a final load I have ever seen. This alone is worth the price of the book. Find these at: http://www.thinklikeaconjurer.com Email to: E-GADS@att.net (Tell 'em I sentcha)!

Hi Pete,
I saw this also and orderd my copy right away. I am still waiting for the arrival. I also heard that Mike will be spinning a new Don Alan cup to go with the book. The cup would be the same one as Don used on the Ed Sullivan show. Have you heard this too? thanks, David |

I just got mine. Both booklets are excellent. I think the Don Alan Chop Cup book is one of the best lessons in magic around. A true master's routine taught by someone who truly understands the work.

I just got the RNTII Brass Foxy Cups and Balls with one of the cups being a chop cup. Using Don Alan's Chop Cup routine with this cup is perfect. The size makes it easy to carry and the handling very easy.
Hint: When you get the brass cups, polish them with a good coat of car wax with silcone in it and the cups will not tarnish as fast. Mike Brazil suggested this to me and it works great!!

Mad jake - gee why do you always look so angry
Can't wait for my copy! Thanks!
Your choices in life can be compared to watching a magic trick: You can continue to believe the illusion in front of you, find the intrigue and desire to learn more, or quit paying attention the moment you feel deceived.

Not ripped... Rings N Things II HAS THE RIGHTS to the Don Alan cup, and the Ron Bauer book IS THE INSTRUCTIONS for the Don Alan cup.
Don't be so quick, please, until you know the full story.

All kinds of publishers make money every day for selling The Bible.
Wonder who gave them permission? Just my 2 cents |

Maybe I can explain this whole thing. Don Alan gave Ron permission to publish this routine a long time ago. When the book In a Class by Himself was written, much of Ron's input was ignored. Ron was with Don Alan while this whole routine was being constructed. He knows more about this routine than anyone else alive. As a matter of fact, the Magic Ranch series and much of this other video was preserved largely because of Ron's efforts.
The last part of the book has things in it that Don wanted to see published, but they have not seen print until now. Toots, since you obviously have not read the booklet, and you obviously are judging this without having full knowledge, I suggest that you order a copy. Then you will know the story. Until then, you probably should let this lie, because frankly, you don't know anything about what you are talking about, James. By the way, Mike Brazill purchased the rights to the Don Alan cups from Don. He has NEVER transferred the rights to this cup to anyone else. Mike actually designed the cup according to Don's specs.

Al Wheatley (Chop Chop) invented the Chop Cup. He manufactured it for many years. Ken Brooke also sold them. I don't know whether he got his cups from Al or not, but they look very much like Al's first metal cup. The original cup was bamboo, but had a tendency to split. After Al's death, there were many manufacturers of the cups. But in a conversation with Don Alan (according to Don), Al's wife basically told him he was "the successor." Don always regretted not getting that on paper.
In the 1970's Don gave Mike Brazill his ideas for the proper dimensions of the cup and sold Mike the rights to the name "Don Alan Chop Cup." Mike's cup was based on Don's specs, but Mike designed it.
