There's not too much of his earlier work on it, but his DVD "Illusion" is now commercially available to the public. I spot atleast one copy every time I hit BestBuy now. If you didn't already know; this is a two hour long retrspective of all his greatest stuff (from the airplane vanish onward). The DVD is great because it has some great bonus features; including commentary by David the entire way through. Definately worth owning if you don't have it.
As far as his older specials.....yeah, begging on the internet is the only way I know of.

Those in the know will be able to see the workings easily from the DVD. There are two places where the camera blatantly shows the workings.
The same goes for Siegfried and Roy's tv programme. Maybe this just sticks out like a sore thumb as the method is known. I am suprised that the editing is not more controlled (The S&R version is covered a lot better than LB - the stage is busier and the lighting a lot more subdued. LB performs this on a bare stage in full light - in fact light and a combination of two other elements are a friend of this illusion). |

Anyone still looking for the old Copperfield specials should try he SAM video library. They are all there and can be rented by members for $10 per tape. It's a wonderful resource.
The Ricky Jay show was an HBO special, you might want to try and contact them... As for Time and Space.. the Pendragons do a great version of it with Jonathan vanishing in it and appearng at the back of the hall. |

Nopes things that go bump is different. Its the one where three girls come out oif an empty chamber. Then the third girl becomes the performer. And you disappear from the chamber.

Hey, Im a mentalist, I shouldn't even be in this section but I was wondering how so many of you magicians can be so far off the mark on this one, I'm not even excusively a masgician and I know this is a really really old one.Its creation had nothing to do with Jim.

I of course could be wrong but take a look back at previous royal dynasty magicians and there illusions, you will find that illusion in other forms. Even the shape and appearance seems to be near identical.

Even though the routine is similar to other illusions, the prop is different. The prop is called Time and Space created by Jim Steinmeyer. Of the three acts I have seen using it, Pendragons, S&R and Lance Burton, they all use a different routine to perform the prop. I have seen "things that go bump in the night" performed using different style cabinets... I guess it's like saying Modern art and thin model sawing are the same. They may be the same effect but the prop, principal and performance are different.
